Alright, I don't think I've ever seen a thread talking about this. Maybe.
Soooo, I grew up in the 90s, and was a Tony Hawk girl. I grew up playing the Pro Skater games, on my Playstation and PS2. Pro Skater 2 was my favorite.
I was recently thinking about how much I missed my copy of 2, when someone turned me onto Skate. At first I was like "NAH BRO, THPS ALL THE WAY. MUSKA, CHILLIN CHILLIN" (even though the Muska quote was from Underground, or American Wasteland. I think it was the first Underground.) but then I was allowed to borrow the first game. Holy s**t it's fantastic.
Left and right sticks act as not only your steering, but balance, tricks, foot placement, etc. Totally wonderful to someone used to using triangle to grind and X to speed up.
The first game is pretty badass, I'm not finished yet because I don't have a lot of downtime anymore, but I'm enjoying myself. The second game is excellent too. I played the second first, at a friend's house. And was able to make a chick skater named Pixie, badass b***h she is. So when I took the first one home I automatically entered Pixie as my skater's name, only to find you could only create male characters. So I'm some bald, buff, BAMFtastic, NWA tee shirt wearin' dude named Pixie. 8D
As for ingame soundtracks, it has a lot of s**t to filter through, but QUITE a few gems. Including Black Flag, NWA (Express Yourself, not Straight Outta Compton, yay!), and a couple other awesome songs I can't remember atm.
But yeah, for someone who's loved skating a fair chunk of her life, despite not ever being good at it, I'm actually fairly impressed. P:
