I've never been so blown away by a series. Well, not in a while anyway. I just finished reading the last one today, so warning to those who haven't read it, there be spoilers ahead!

This series is about a nation in turmoil. The Capitol rules over twelve districts (1 being the richest, 12 being the poorest) after a rebellion went amok. To punish those from the districts, they hold this thing called The Hunger Games every year in which two children from every district are sacrificed. They are thrown into an arena and have to kill each other while everyone else watches. Katniss Everdeen thinks it's a death sentence when she takes her sister's place, but she has a knack for surviving.

And after this year's Hunger Games, rebellion is stirring in the districts.

Right, that's as much as I could say without giving away the whole damn story.

Genre: fiction

I fell in love with this series two chapters into the first book. The characters, the setting, the action; Suzanne Collins really knows how to stir up a good story.

So...I'm still just so overwhelmed by the series, I really don't know what to say.

What did you think of her portrayal of war, and casualties?

My opinion is that the series, the last book especially, was just so intense. It was incredibly powerful and moving and unexpected at times. Like when Finnick died at the end. I didn't see that coming at all. And I was really sad when I read that because he was a great character and he had just married Annie, his love, and then...he was killed. Suzanne Collins' depiction of war, I thought was accurate, but very sad. People die. And that happens. But no one wants to see their favorite characters being beaten and tortured and killed. I almost threw the book across the room when Cinna was taken and killed because I was like, "NO! How could you do that!?" He was such a great character.

Also, any favorite quotes? I adore this one from the end:

"That what I need to survive is not Gale's fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that."

I haven't read this series yet, but I plan to.

My brother is in the middle of it, though. He didn't do that well in English class this year (8th grade for him), and so his teacher tutored him this summer. She had him read the hunger games and the second book (Catching fire?).

My brother really doesn't read that often, so for him to finish two books in a series, it was a really big deal. Anything that can keep him hooked on reading would probably entertain me too. biggrin

Aaahhhaha, sorry for spoiling some of it, since you haven't read it yet. sweatdrop

No way, that's like my brother too. I'm trying to convince him to read The Hunger Games because I think he'll like it. I'm also trying to convince him to read Harry Potter but that's not going so well. -_-

Just finished the first book and I'm getting ready for the second. I really liked the way Collins explained things. I also really liked the premise for the story.

I just bought the first book. I read several pages before making the decision. Seems like it'll be a good read. c: Hope I'm not wrong!

I really liked the first two in the series, but the third one, Mockingjay, didn't quite interest me as much confused I was kind of disappointed with it.

Huerm. This series was extremely well written, The Hunger Games is my favorite in the series, and Mockingjay disappointed me slightly. Still a marvelous read nonetheless. More people should have died...

As for the movie...I hated how I casted the entire book, and then none of my choices were actually in it.

My favorite character from this book is most likely Haymitch...hehe. "So it's you and a syringe against the Capitol? See, this is why no one lets you make the plans." His sarcastic nature makes me smile.

Yes!!! You should read Mockingjay
Is there any reason though that you don't want to read it?
I enjoyed the trilogy and thought it wasn't complete without reading the last book. That's just my opinion though.
