History: While he was alive he was, believe it or not, a vet. He died at age 12 while he was caring for a sick wild animal.
However, it was not intentional. When he entered the soul society, he befriended Sajin Komamura. He found him on his way to the soul reaper academy. Peia had been the best in his class and was on his way to the graduation ceremony. He found the captain injured on the grass. His mask was off and he had blood streaming down his body. He cared for his wounds , but missed the graduation. Thanks to his willingness to help, he was able to join squad 7 and quickly rose to the 3rd seat.
