Ballack out of Germany's Euro 2012 squad

BERLIN, Germany — Germany captain Michael Ballack has been dropped
by national coach Joachim Loew for next month's Euro 2012 qualifiers.

The 33-year-old midifelder's name was conspicuous by its absence from
Loew's squad released Friday for the games against Belgium in Brussels
on September 3 and Azerbaijan in Cologne four days later.

Ballack is still working his way back to fitness after suffering an ankle
injury in May which ruled him out of last month's World Cup.

Loew said in a statement: "Michael is going the right way after his injury
and everyone is satisfied with the healing process. The important thing
is that he rediscovers his best form at Leverkusen."

According to the German Football Association Loew told Ballack of his
decision by telephone.

With Ballack absent defender Philipp Lahm is likely to retain the captaincy
having led Germany to third at the World Cup.

Loew was in Dortmund last Sunday to see Ballack make his first appearance
back in the Bundesliga after four years in the Premier League with Chelsea
as his side Bayer Leverkusen beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0.

After his injury, Ballack only returned to training at the start of August
and has played only a Bundesliga and Europa League match.

As expected Loew has called up 17 members of his World Cup squad.

Out of contention are the injured Arne Friedrich, Jerome Boateng, Piotr
Trochowski and Dennis Aogo, but back after missing the World Cup are
goalkeeper Rene Adler and defender Heiko Westermann.

Looking ahead to the two Euro 2012 qualifiers Loew said: "We want to win
our first two games with the same football that we played at the World Cup."

also team list is from here because the above source screwed up the positions.

no surprises with the team, just a bit re-arranged. excited to see Träsch back. (:

on the Micha issue, it's waaay too similar to what Jogi did to Frings a few years ago. if this continues past these games and Jogi keeps coming up with bullshit reasons to keep Micha out, I will cry and never forgive him. I love that man so much, and he has been my captain for 6 years. GTFO LÖW.

also, lj-user bismarksotto makes a good point (though when doesn't she?):

"If [Löw] had any interest in further having Ballack with the squad (since it's doubtful Ballack's ego will allow him to remain with the team as a "demoted" regular Mannschafter), he'd have by now said something along the lines of "Ballack was our captain and he will continue to be our captain as long as he plays well" or something of that sort."

fml I will shoot someone if we end up with Lahm as our captain. Basti or Micha, please.
I love him, I really, really, do, but I love the other two more.

Those are my thoughts. Please, share yours!! Is Jogi trying to get rid of Micha? Should Micha get the armband back? Are Micha's Mannschaft days numbered?
And for any new fans, I'm curious: what's your opinion on Micha?

I am new, but seeing as how most of the things that I heard about Micha are from the media, I can not say anything about him because...well, it is the media and everyone knows how much they love to take out pertinent details on things. neutral

To be honest, I think Jogi is trying to push Micha away. Yes, he recovered from injury but so did Adler, but do you see him on the list as well? I find it very strange, that...

I also think that Löw should have Micha keep the armband until he retires (which won't be long, right?) and then pass it on to someone who shall pick up on the leadership I STILL GO FOR SCHWEINI. From what I remember, Micha did help lead them towards qualifying for the WC as Kapitän, so...yeah.

Wow, I think I get the picture of why so many people have such a love/hate relationship with Jogi. XD

Off topic but...
I'LL BE DAMNED IF JOGI DOES NOT LET MARIN PLAY. ಠ_ಠ

I heard about this but am not surprised. I really hope Micha comes back at some point because I do love the man to pieces, but I really don't want him or Lahm as our captain :/
Team Bastian! scream
[I keep waiting to see Mats on the damn list for our defenders but he's never there ;___; isn't the U-21 NT playing stuff too though?]

at this point I honestly don't care about the U-21 team, to be quite honest. they failed to qualify, and Mats frigging deserves that A-team call up. that he hasn't received it yet makes me so upset.

I'm not surprised, either. I do agree that Ballack isn't completely fit, but I can see it going on until he's out of the squad. and he deserves so much more.

Sareim – glad to see that a new fan can be this objective!! it's true, the media paints him as black as the devil, which he doesn't deserve. he's no angel, but neither are Löw and Lahm.

heh, if Ballack gets his way, he'll retire after the 2012 Euros…and even I can admit, he can't be a starter on the team until then. who knows how well he'd play with the new bbs?
and hell, he saved all their asses during qualification, as well as leading the team to the third place finish in 2006 and second in 2008. he's been amazing.

It's now official that once Ballack recovers, he will regain his armband. Lahm will hold onto it until then.

So the issue is not the captaincy now, it's seeing Ballack in the most fit shape he can, and I personally think that's totally reasonable. (I must admit to being a fan of Khedira and Schweinsteiger paired together as holding midfielders and am worried about what Ballack's re-entry will do to that, but eh, not my decision.)

All I want to know now is who will be first keeper!

There is no doubt in my mind that Ballack will return to full fitness. As for what it'll do to the midfield, we'll have to see.

Also, Neuer is nr 1.
ily rene you will get it back ):
