Stark Expo 2020: Opening Ceremony
Time:8 P.M.

The roar of crowd and music thumped the ground, even behind the stage it was a muffled but deep throbbing that caught in the chest and throat. The buzz of something large and excited. The stage was not all that different from her father’s last Expo in 2010, the back of the stage was a gigantic screen showing the logo for the Expo, a retro Stark logo, white and blue interchanged behind it.

Behind the huge stage Petre Stark stood. Dressed in a beautiful navy blue dress that was tight along her body with an expanse of ruffles only at the bottom and very little room to move her legs. Her hair was still short, styled with some hair gel and a pair of clip-on sapphire earrings matched her dress encased in silver. She felt abnormal, so unaccustomed to wearing such clothes but standing beside her father in his pin-striped black suit and blue tie, which matched the color of her dress. His sapphire cufflinks and white grin showing through tan skin, he stroked his neatly trimmed facial hair and listened to the sound growing, growing.

“I really never thought I would be standing here under these circumstances. At a Stark Expo spearheaded by my daughter,” He looked at her. “How are you feeling?” It wasn’t a question about nervousness. He knew she wasn’t nervous.

“Waiting for Miss Storm to show up.” Pete said unhappily. “If I keep everything on schedule, I’ll need her here soon. I-”

“You can always exit the stage and come back out with her,” Tony offered. “Sometimes you just have to roll with it, kid.”

Roll with it? Nice.” Pete smirked. “Is that one of your hip sayings, Papa?”

“Hip enough when I say it darlin’.” He winked.

“I hope people show up.”

“By people I assume you mean some of those little friends of yours you tried to create an Avengers team out of,” Tony paused. He could see her brown tense. “Announcing the team here will only help it.”

“I really wanted Miss Storm to say a little something, people like the Fantastic Four.” The girl nibbled on her lower lip.

“You look beautiful, by the way.”

I look ridiculous. She said nothing, keeping a stern stare ahead of her as the music began to change and crowd became even louder.

“Even if you think you look ridiculous, you don’t. You wouldn’t know because your sense of style sucks for a Stark.”

“You dressed me.” He always knows what I’m thinking, Pete passed him a stern look. One of his own.

“I did, and that’s why you look good.”

“Put on your happy face, its time to woo the masses. Here we go, Papa.”

[Crowd]

The two Starks came out on stage, Tony looking as he had ten years ago as if immortalized by that suit of armor like some kind of time capsule that kept him from aging. He looked in his thirties. His child beside him seemed small, a slender flowing thing with a gorgeous skin tone and they came to stand side-by-side, Pete holding up her right arm in greeting and Tony his left. “Welcome, welcome,” Tony clapped slowly. “Ah, thank you. Well, well, what a welcome, thank you-” His smile seemed to sparkle, near catch the light.

“I love you Tony!”

“Stark!”

“Stark!”

Random cries sounded louder then others, the sharp whistles, the cries of women. Pete was focused beyond it. “First, close your eyes. Go back to the last time this place was so alive, back ten years when my father held me on this same stage in his armor,” She paused.

“And the cheerleaders. Where are those, Pete?”

“Despite popular belief you and I do have a few points we disagree on, Papa.” Pete frowned at her father interjecting in the start of her speech but the crowd laughed as a whole, more shouts and whistles cracked out from the dark globs of humanity like bolts of lightning. People loved to observe the family dynamic between the two Starks, just as they were always hungry for photos of Tony with his child and the one snapped ten years ago of him, Iron Man armor clad with his helmet snapped back, holding his recently battered child high up with both hands. Both smiling. Emotion in his eyes and lips. The perfect moment of father and child connecting as some single entity snapped and immortalized on the cover of TIME. People loved that. The crowd began to quiet. “Yes. A lot has happened, hasn’t it? Things we are proud of, things we regret, things beyond our control. All of us. I gave a speech ten years ago, my very first as a matter of fact, I don’t intend to give that same speech today.”

“Nor have we come to this stage to apologize or ask forgiveness.” Tony added.

“No.” The small girl nodded. “Stark Expo is not about anyone, it is about everyone. Over the course of this coming year we will sponsor speeches and demonstrations by the greatest minds on this planet, by people from all over the world-”

“By the poor and the rich.”

“By the strong and the weak.”

“We will host community projects, workshops, and activities.”

“And give you a view, a fresh view, of a future through the minds of the people who care about the future.” Petre extended a cybernetic hand towards the crowd. “You.”

The huge screen at their backs churned the blue and white and the Stark Expo logo faded in and out. “Revive not only yourself this year. I guarantee in experiencing, sharing, and inventing new things within yourself you will also revive your family, your friends, your community, your country, and even your world.”

“Experience the magic of the intellectual and the shared passion of your fellow man.”

“Be part of Stark Expo2020!” And the stage erupted with sprays of colored sparks and short fireworks rose up behind them along the screen. This was the moment that those who had officially accepted a position on the new Avengers were to come out onto the stage and join Tony and Petre.

Give ‘em a sight to remember Veck. Pete thought with passion she could hardly keep from saying out loud. Her unofficial boyfriend coming out in his new Cold Fusion Iron Man suit was the moment she had been the most excited about, all the work, all the build up, it was a great moment for the young Stark.

Robert came out, he was pounding nervous. He was sweating and had hooked his hands in his pants to try to keep them from shaking, he had never been at such a loud show before. He had never been in front of a crowd of so many people. The very sparks coming up made him nervous but he kept walking, half in a trance. My god there must be thousands of people out in that crowd! He wished that his sister was here beside him, that they could have walked out together.

Pete had asked him to be here, to come out on stage as the announcement of a new Avengers team having been created was the big bang of the opening ceremony. When they all came out, she would say a little and then turn things over to Johnny Storm’s child, at least that was what he had been told in very little detail was going to happen. Robert found he hated not being in control of everything that he was doing, normally he sat alone behind glass in the Chicago Field Museum working on old bones. Now he was walking out in front of a rumbling stage with thousands of people spanning out in a dark crowd as it was evening, lights everywhere, cameras going off, people screaming, cheering, all talking at the same time. He was sure his knees wobbled as he came to a stop beside Tony.

_______________________________

Sylvia was alright with doing speeches for school projects and stuff, she was even ok with helping with a presentation for the entire school. But nothing in her life had prepared her for this. She wasn't scared or nervous, just a bit jumpy. She was lurking about backstage, just unsure about what to do. She already knew what she was going to do onstage, she just wasn't sure when or how... little thoughts kept creepinf into her mind. Thoughts that said, 'what the hell are you doing?' 'what if you make a complete fool out of yourself?' 'what will happen if-
"GO AWAY." She saw that she had startled a backstage hand. Poor man."No, not you, sorry...." This was no time to go crazy backstage. If she was a man she would have told herself to suck it up and grow some balls already.

She had spent about two hour deciding what to wear. She had been torn between stylish and professional, and eventually settled for just plain adorable. It that didn't win everyone over, nothing would. She watched as Pete and Tony went onstage, and received a rousing ovation. She didn't expect the same, she didn't even think that anyone knew who she was. But they would know soon enough. Hopefully people would like her. She knew for a fact that her old friends would find out about this sooner or later. But she really wanted to do this. She really did.

Sylvia wasn't sure if she was supposed to come onstage or not, so she didn't. She just waited in the wings, in view of the people onstage not not anyone else. All the excitement was starting to get to her and she smiled.

His heart pounded even through the sleek metal suit that covered his entire body. Veck wasn't nervous, not in the slightest. He was ecstatic and completely ready for his big entrance. Lazily he floated above the building, ready to crash on through the ceiling to enter through the cheers and excitement for Stark Expo 2020, to show off a little, and experience the thrill of appearing in the new "Iron Man" suit. Though it looked nothing as sleek and graceful as Tony's models, he was still proud of what Pete had created for him, and was sure that the people here at Stark Expo would feel the same.

The place where he was to "crash" through was marked off on the roof of the building for him with a simple white circle of tape. Everything had been prepared for him to do it, and no harm would come to anyone because of it. Simple calculations made sure of it.

Veck could see through the roof, and could even hear every word that Pete and her father said, and just as planned, the moment the sparks began to shoot up, he dropped like a rock through the ceiling, and landed upon the stage with a crash. Knelt with one knee on the ground, his eyes towards the ground for only a moment. All the cheering hushed for a moment, then immediately rose back up again, twice as loud.

Mica had joined the others, actually looking very normal compared to the first and only time they had seen her. She was sporting a tamed and elegant, ponytail updo and was surprisingly wearing a formal white dress ((2nd one from the right)). Her outward appearance and personal behavior all seemed very sane.

Looking over to Robert, she grinned and let out a small chuckle. "Heh don't be so freaked out, bud. It's not that bad. She shrugged. "It could be worse-- you could have to give a speech or something." Before the group headed out to the stage as requested an attractive young female stage assistant passed by. Mica whistled and winked at her, grinning. "Find me at the wet bar later! I'll make your night unforgettable!" Anybody who had heard would be unable to tell whether Mica was serious or not.

Upon being called out, Mica seemed to become more serious as she followed the others. She looked out to the crowd and grinned, curious to see how the night would go. Especially with the announcement of a new Avengers team.

Cossette stood within the excited and boisterous crowd, holding a glass of champagne in one hand. Her dress was an elegant one-- in actuality, an old fashioned gift from her employer. She shifted in it, feeling like it was too much. But, why not wear it? What other occasion would she attend to wear it? None. Besides, being complimented by her father before she had left the X-Mansion was heartwarming. He had called her his petite princesse.

Cossette's spring eyes searched the stage for Robert. She didn't know if she'd get to speak to him tonight but at least she had one last chance to see him. After their previous meeting and her quick departure, Cossette had found that she missed her brother dearly. And, although she knew for her it was the right thing, part of her didn't want to go through with her most recent... decision. "I hope you've found your place, Robert. She smiled warmly, trying to mentally will any form of confidence to the seemingly nervous male on stage.

{{Jeffery Monroe-Strange}}
"Might,Magic and Mother Nature is my specialty"

Black stormed clouds filled the air as loud ear-drum busting thunder started sounding. Lighting struck the stage behind the already assembled avengers as a large red vortex appeard in the air. Jeffery Monroe-Strange floated out of the vortex as it closed up and his eyes were alight with white flames. The audiance became quiet at this ominous entrance. The large gold medalian glitterd on his chest agaisnt what looked like his fathers old outfitt, but it was modified. His was Black and red instead of the blue and yellow colors that Dr.Strange wore.

Jeffery hoverd down to the stage before a large white symbol appeard underneath them that suddenly shot up a blinding white light. When the light dissapeerd the clouds were gone and the thunder had stopped.
Jeff now head an ear-splitting head-ache but it was worth it.
Jeffery grinned at the auidiance as the medailian dissapeerd and thounderous appluase started up at the dramatic entrance.

Pete was smiling when Veck crashed through, “2020 is the year of the Avengers!” She said boldly into the crowd. There was a great roar, people seemed excited and not fearful. In the front of the crowd sat Susan and Johnny Storm, here to see Sylvia and hear the speech. Reed was also present though not sitting by his ex-wife and Ben Grimm was also there by Susan.

The small team came not, Robert wasn’t even wearing any kind of costume. Petre understood that this could not be perfect and it also would not be the same. It could never be the same. It was a new hero team for a new age. It was what these people before them and beside them wanted, what the world would ask and give and what the team would ask and give.

“We are very pleased to announce the coming together of people, we have a piece of the great teams that once protected our country and beyond,” Tony said. “The X-Men, the Avengers, independent heroes, and even-”

“The Fantastic Four!” Pete said with as much enthusiasm as she could muster. Time to shine, Sylvia. The crowd cheered, “I’m sure you’ve all heard enough talk from us, so to tell you more about embracing a new era of peace in the hero community is the beautiful and fiery Sylvia Danger Storm!” Petre stepped back, she stood by Veck in his armor that was buffed and polished for the show. The man she admired. She leaned back against him, arms crossed, smile cocky, and winked out at the flashing lights before tilting her head back to give him a small but private grin and over the roar of people he could not hear but he saw her lips move in gentle words that looked like I love you.

Johnny Storm had rose from his seat to whistle and clap at the announcement his child was coming out. He was so thrilled that she was given a chance to be the star that he wasn’t even thinking of what would be said and if he would agree or not, he wanted to agree, he was drawn in by what he saw and the positive aspects of it. He was happy to see his child in the spotlight and put his arm around his wife, surrounded by his family, his inhibitions had left him.

Pete was nervous for her but she had wanted it to be this way. She saw her father’s inability to let go, to give control to anyone else and feared she would also be that way. That she would rule and obsess over the Avengers and everything said here. Pete had decided to not start, to hand over the most important speech to someone else and trust that they would make it happen. Allowing someone else to talk about the looses from the civil war. The hurt, the things it had taken and changed that could not be fixed or taken back. Pete believed that people had heard enough speeches from her family for, against, and for every other angle related to the civil war and what had come after it. She knew it had to come from someone else, that it could no longer be from her bloodline. I only hope that Sylvia can find her words, the ones to show people that things have to change. That these angers have to be allowed to pass on. This has to be seen as neither a pro registration group nor an anti but just a group, just a group or heroes as it was in the golden days.

Laney felt her stomach churn and twist as she felt her nerves begin to unwind, and then rewind. It was like a broken record. She was one of the last to walk on stage. She hated being stared at an after Stephen's entrance the crowd roared. But once she started on stage in a long black dress, they hushed again. Banner's family child had been in the paper more than once. She could sense the tension in the crowd and felt like turning around and walking back off when the little robot from the first meeting with Pete suddenly appeared on stage and poked her lightly with the barrel of the gun. She turned around and stared at it and then a roar of laughter erupted from the crowd. Not funny, she thought. To play along, she pointed to off-stage and clearly said,"Shoo."
Another fit of chuckles fell over the crowd as the robot rolled away forlornly. Celaeno would have to speak with Pete later about that.

Her long copper hair had been temporarily-permed to give her lovely natural waves and curls. She was unused to wearing such formal attire or even make-up yet the stage crew insisted. It made her feel like an odd monkey in a donkey-suit. The dress was something she had found from an old Goodwill store, since she didn't like the whole designer-fad of prada tugging at her size-six body when those clothes were clearly meant for people zero and under. Look at Sylvia. She's too cute in the pink. After Pete's amazing speech of introducing them, Celaeno wanted to get of stage and kick off the heels on her feet. She passed a subtle smile to Sylv to encourage the girl for her own speach.

Sylvia thought that it would be hard to live up to all the excitement that came before her. She didn't have any tricks or impressive stunts planned like most everyone else had done, all she had was her voice. Mostly she hoped that by doing this there would be less distraction. She hoped it would be enough. It had to.
Alright. It's ok, I can do this, i will do this.....

Everyone seemed to be happy enough to see her though, like super happy. Especially her parents, who where in the front row. She didn't know if that made her more nervous, or feel better about the situation. She didn't really have enough time to think about that right now, however. She looked at the crowd, they where still clapping and cheering but also starting to look at her expectantly. These people probably haven't even heard much about her.. but they still where cheering like she was a rockstar or something. She cleared her throat.

"Thank you. I'm not sure if I can live up to all of this excitement with my little speech here, but I will try. Up until recently, I led a very normal life, just like any of you. I went to a normal school, did normal things with my normal friends. No one but my close friends and family even knew about what I could do, that I had inherited something amazing from my father. I respect my parents for bringing me up like this, although it's probably not what I would have chose." Sorry, Daddy. I don't mean anything bad by this, I swear. "I feel privileged now, because I get to make choices for myself. I know that in the past, people like us had a lot of their choices taken away from them. Everything was forced into black and white, and the shades of gray where treated like exiles. Who is to say what was right and what was wrong? Who knows what would have happened if the Registration act had never happened? I can't say if I agree or disagree with the events of the past, because I can't bring myself to choose a side."

She took a deep breath. "But the good thing is, I don't need to right now. The past is just a starting point for us. If we dwell on it too much we would be distracting ourselves from what really matters. What matters is you. All of you. Every single person on this planet, in fact. I'll make this promise to the world today, I will do my very best to make sure that you are safe from the forces that only people like us can deal with. I can't speak for everyone up here, but I'm sure many of them feel the same way. And I'll leave you with a warning to anyone that may try to sabotage us. There's a Storm coming, and there's no way that you'll be able to get through it unharmed."

Sylvia finished her speech, and the whore room began to cheer again. Her stomach felt all fluttery and it was impossible not to smile as she walked to stand among the other heroes on the stage.

Pete nodded one, firmly, Tony put his arm around is short child. “That’s right, see here the new Avengers! We will be protecting the East Coast once again! Let what you see here ripple across this glorious country we all call home and coat us, once again, in the golden age--- the age of heroes!”

“Captain America!” Someone yelled.

“Stark-”

“Stark!”

“Storm!”

Loud whistles. Hollers. Hoots. Cries of excitement.

And the stage went black and a classic 1940s futuristic tune that had been used at the first Stark Expo. Tony and Petre exited as if programmed, they didn’t even hesitate. They were yards ahead before the rest of the crew and to the back of the stage where Pete sprung up on her heels and hugged her father, smiling with more enthusiasm than she had shown him in awhile.

“I think it went so well, Papa.” And everyone came! She was so shocked by this, but she knew not to have high expectations when it came to other people. Perhaps her father had killed that kind of enthusiasm within her as a child.

Tony nodded, “Well enough. Now we just have to…” His gaze went back out to the stage, to the cheering. “Wait and see if this brings around some new people.”

The skinny young woman turned back as some of the team made it back and clapped, Rodger on the shoulder. “We need to get you a costume.”
PostPosted: Sat Sep 04, 2010 12:01 pm

Rodger rolled his eyes, “That is just a stereotype as anything else-”

He stopped, he had seen how Johnny Storm and his family had looked so impressed by seeing their daughter on stage. I’m getting older, He knew when he was looking out and thinking about family dynamics and how nice it had to be for Johnny to see his daughter strong and able to handle something like this. And here I am…

“I will see you.” Robert had no intention of going to the after party, he knew of it but had other things he wanted to do. Having become a bit lonely for his original job and he wanted to reconnect with some anthropological study and his second degree was coming to a close, another thing on his mind.
