Do you listen to music while you write? If so, what kind?
I personally will. I get strapped for ideas sometimes when I write, so I pick a random song, and hope for inspiration. I don't listen to one thing in particular. Sometimes it's Mussorgski, sometimes it's Avril Lavigne, sometimes it's some random band my brother likes. Anything works!
What about you?

Occasionally. In English class, Christmas music is playing (Fitting. The room is 68 degrees! gonk ), when I'm on the computer I always have music playing anyway (so I don't count that), but when I write in my notebook it's usually dead silent.
Sometimes I listen to Breaking Benjamin, other times Evanescence, it just depends on my mood. C: It't usually some kind of rock/metal/post-grunge, though.

Most of the time! smile I also listen to stuff like Breaking Benjamin or Evanescence, but those are for a specific type of inspiration. Sometimes I just switch around between different types. Currently, the most inspiring songs for me are The Reason by Hoobastank, How to Save a Life by The Fray, and Her Name is Alice by Shinedown (I actually regularly listen to them, unlike the first two).

I have trouble listening and writing at the same time unless the music is turned down really low, but I usually listen to certain songs depending on what emotion I want to protray in my story/poem. I'll listen to the song or playlist awhile and then when inspiraton hits me I set the song on repeat, turn it down low, and then write away; focusing on everything I thought and felt and putting that into the moment. It helps a lot because many times I've never experienced the moment I'm writing about. For instance, I've never fallen in love or lost that love, but when I listen to 'Somewhere Only We Know' by Keane and "I Can't Make You Love Me," by Bonnie Raitte, I can at least imagine it for my characters. I've never lost someone who was extremely close to me either, but by listening to "Like You" by Evanescence and imagining myself in that position, I feel I can logical surmise how my character will feel and react in the same situation. I also listen to all kinds of music (except country and rap--save for Eminem), and that's probably for this very reason. My top 5 artists to listen to are Linkin Park, Evanescence, Eminem, Adam Lambert and Alicia Keys; mostly because I find so many unique characters/situations from each. I also like songs that move me in some way because I believe I can write better when I'm inspired by the feeling and not just the thought of it.
