You know. Those books that you hate so much you wish they never existed but you can't stop talking about them and how awful they are. The ironic thing is that even though you keep badmouthing it, you're still giving it attention.

You know what I mean? What are some books that you just love to hate?

Yes, yes, yes. I love to hate Eragon. I don't know if it's so much loving to hate it though, as trying to comprehend why it's so popular. To me it's horrible, so many "borrowed elements" that border on blatant plagiarism, long-winded and pretentious writing, and hardly a creative and original thought in the thing. It's one giant crossover fanfiction with the author's gary-sue self-insert as the main character. Yet somehow it gets huge media attention and a large and very loyal fanbase while other series languish away. Anyways, I always find myself posting in most of the threads that pop up about it, and quite often getting into debates/discussions/arguments with the fans.

I love to hate any novel by James Herriot. I actually have a lot of respect for him, but his books are just so... not interesting.
Chapter 1) He saves a cat
Chapter 2) He finds a lost dog that had a thorn in his paw
Chapter 3) He takes care of some elderly woman's cats after she passes away

I'm just not huge fan of pets, I guess. haha And his books are a little repetitive.

I actually totally forgot about Eragon, which I completely agree with you on. Dunno why, I just reread it recently...not sure why I did that either. Though with the reread, I managed to pick out even more Lord of the Rings/Star Wars elements, among others.

And oh my god, James Herriot. When I was younger, I harbored interests of being a veterinarian, so my parents got me some of his books. I couldn't read them though. Bleh. They were kinda boring.

Wow I Can't Believe I'm the First to post this... But it had to be said...

Twilight Series.

As a whole. You know I love my romance books, but A) it's badly written. B) She stole some of her plot and characters from Vampire Dairies and Ann Rice. C) I just can't take it seriously.

He. F---king. Sparkles.

COME ON!

Vampires aren't suppose to be your friend they are suppose to eat you! Have you ever seen a cuddly Zombie?!?! I think not.

Seriously!

and the fact that one of my favourite bands was her Inspiration.

Not cool soccer mom. Not cool.

@the.fly.on.the.wall: I totally agree with you! I almost posted it. Almost, but then I got distracted. Still whatever I posted would not have been as... humorous as your post. I laughed out loud when I read it.

@the.fly.on.the.wall I absolutely and completely agree with you. The only reason I didn't state it myself is because I could go on for a while about why and how much I loathe Twilight.

My friend and I actually made anti-Twilight t-shirts. And then we wore them to school the day the first movie came out. It was pretty awesome.

One girl actually came up to us and said, "Why are you wearing those?"

"Because we hate Twilight," I informed her.

"Have you actually read the book?" Her tone was quite snotty.

"Uh, yeah. And I hated it." So there.

"So you had to make anti-Twilight t-shirts?" I think she really wanted to hit us.

"Yep. If there are t-shirts for it, why not ones against it?" My tone was annoyingly cheerful. She walked away after that.

haha anyway, badly written doesn't even begin to describe the contents of Twilight. I've read better fanfiction. Honestly.

What I really hate, more than anything, are the people who are like, "ZOMG STEPHENIE MEYER IS SO GREAT!!1!!11!!!" They're the ones who think she's better than J.K. Rowling (a comparison that's made a lot) and think that what Edward and Bella have is real romance.

Oh yeah. Because there's nothing more romantic than a guy who sneaks into your room at night and watches you sleep.

Clue in, Stephenie Meyer. Those people are called rapists.

...People have said Stephanie Meyer is better than J.K. freakin' Rowling...? eek I think a little piece of my heart just broke off and died at that. I mean, I'm okay with Twilight but really?! gonk Better than Harry Potter? It hurts me, it almost physically hurts me... crying

Sorry, back to the topic now. smile I don't think I've really found a book I love to hate yet although Twilight does annoy me at times but that's really do to the fans and the movies.

There is one reason why I'm ok with JK Rowling, and that's becuase she wrote her books for a certain age and as the children aged so did the reading level of the books. (to more more excate, they were written for my age group, 18-19 now at the time i was in grade 3 when the first book came out)

It took me a year after the first book came out to actually get around to reading it. I agree, the reading level of the books did change as the series progressed.

Vampire Kisses. Its a vampire "romance" book like Twilight but worse. The main character, Raven, is whiney, self-centered, and totaly dependent on her boyfriend. To make it worse the writing is bland and the fact that she's the only goth in her town is pointed out to the reader so many times its just frustrating. Not only that but her Boyfriend, Alexander, came off to me as cold. He never stoped her when she was doing something stupid, and they would fight then make up by eating in a cemetery.
Wow it felt good to rant (:
