I had an idea, and I ran it by Music Goggles. What do you guys think about having a guild read day? We would pick a day, maybe next month, to dedicate to reading, talk about the books, and power through some of those books that have been sitting around. I got the idea from here: http://www.librarything.com/groups/readathingI'm not saying we have to sign up for hour chunks, but just commit to a day of reading together, talking about it in the guild. Any interest? If so, let me know what days/times do or don't work for you in the next month.

Sounds like fun!
I don't know about you guys but weekends would work best for me. Actually, I only have classes until 1 most days, so I could do whenever. biggrin

I can only ever do weekends... What exactly does this activity entail?

This sounds fantastic. Weekends would work best for me personally. But any day is cool. I have quite a few books that I haven't gotten around to reading.

The readathon would be a post we'd make, and check into during the day. We could have goals of pages read, a list of books you want to finish by the end of the day, or some other sort of measurement that's meaningful.
Weekends work best for me as well, but I wanted to see what the guild's availability was.
What weekends in September do you have booked/free, or is there a preference on days? Not sure how labor day works, seems like a popular weekend for other commitments.
I'm good on Saturdays or Sundays, though I'd have to bow out early on the 12th. I'm already committed to performing my other favorite hobby that day.

I can't do Labor Day Weekend, I can't do the 11th, the 12th is okay, and now I'm finding out Saturday mornings are booked too. You guys might as well do it without me, I can't seem to find free time at all.

I can do any weekend. Even if I can't devote the whole day to reading, it will still be fun to contribute. biggrin

Waah, I wish I could do this, but come September, I have hockey training camps/practices on the weekends. And then classes until 2 every day except Friday.

Ah, sounds like a fun idea. I'll go along with most any day, weekends being best, assuming my professors don't decide to assign me some huge project the day before or something. XD

CaughtThemAll Waah, I wish I could do this, but come September, I have hockey training camps/practices on the weekends. And then classes until 2 every day except Friday. What time do you get out of class on Fridays? And for everyone else, would it be easier to do one entire day, or to check in throughout a weekend, and make a game of it, most books read, most unique authors, etc? I'm working this out as I go along, trying to make sure most of our active members can participate!

No classes on Friday, muahaha. One free day a week for me.
I could check in throughout the weekend, but I wouldn't be able to be on here constantly.

Checking in over the weekend sounds good. I think a lot of us wish that we could spend the weekend reading, but due to work or school or other events, we may only be able to dedicate some of our time.

This is a very interesting idea and I'd love to participate. 3nodding I have a bunch of books I still need to read and I keep putting it off. sweatdrop Any weekend would most likely be good for me but what would our goal be and should there be a small prize at the end for the person who posted the most about their books? Like a bit of gold?

That's a good idea, PhantasyHolic!
Changing the poll to reflect weekends in September. We've had seven people express interest so far, so let's see which weekends work for everyone!

So far, it looks like September 3-5 is the favored weekend. Granted, it has two votes instead of one, this is still up for discussion.
Ideas on contests/prizes? Ideas I had were most unique authors read over the weekend, most pages/books read, etc. What do you think sounds challenging but not overly competitive?
Also, prizes. I'm willing to buy some moderately priced items off the auction house, perhaps some of the transforming books?
