Letters that Look Like English Letters

Okay so this group can be broken up into two sub-categories: ones that look like and sound like ones in English and ones that look like an English letter but make a different sound.

I'm going to start with the easier one, letters that look and sound like an English letter.

К к, А а, М м, Т т - these 4 letters sound exactly the same as the do in English

Next is the fairly confusing list of letter that look like ones in the English alphabet, but make a completely different sound.

У у - this letter makes a sound like oo
Е е - this letter makes a sound like eeyay
Н н - this is the equivalent of the letter n in English
Х х - this letter is more of an "empty" sound like the first h in the word hah
В в - this is the equivalent of the letter v in English
Р р - this is said most like an r in the Spanish language with a the slight tongue roll
С с - this makes the same sound as the letter s in English

Special Symbols

Finally there are two special symbols that are considered part of the Russian alphabet which are used to alter the sound of the letter that is in front of it.

ь AND ъ

The first symbol makes the letter in front of it have a softer sound, while the second though used very seldom gives the letter it's attached to a harder sound. For example, we know the letter В sounds like V, but Вь when said might sound a bit more like the English letter V crossed with B in order to soften it up.
