Life is a strange thing for many people. The subtle twists that occur make each and every day seem odd alone, but when you put them all together, a story is formed that is unique to everyone. For some it can be a story of great drama, and for others it could be an interesting comedy. My story may not be as full as some, but as the twists and turns of it are still changing everything I knew, it is a story that would blow me away. A story that would have remained burned into the pages of history had people known of it from my own perspective. It is not just anyone's story. This is my story, and I choose to start it where I believe the most interesting changes began.
As the sun rose on this morning I walked over to the tree. I guess I wanted to say goodbye to the last thing I knew in my life. I ran my finger across the heart I had carved with the letters JS and KV. Kristina Voch had been my girlfriend for the last four years, but she had disappeared yesterday. Her parents had disappeared a few days earlier, said to have been taken. I walked over to my bike, got on, and put on my helmet. I kicked up the kickstand and twisted the handle, shooting forward. The dirt of the road shot up and created a cloud of dust behind me. I followed the road as it turned up the canyon wall, and finally stopped at the top.
Looking down at the valley I glanced at the now charred and empty town where I had grown up. Just yesterday the town had been a very busy town, the people bustling about doing whatever they had to do at the time. It was truly beautiful then. The Butcher, Keristan Childon, probably cutting up a new boar that his son, Thom, had just brought in; Terad Cormine, The Grocer , selling whatever people needed; My parents, Erandon and Stacie Storvic, walking about the town doing whatever they wanted to at the time; Kristina and I walking down the banks of the river; and her parents, Kreig and Heisa Voch, working their farm and tending to their house.
I longed for those days when Kristina would walk with me and we would simply talk to each other. But it had all ended the day she disappeared. I was walking over to her house when I heard a muffled scream and then a flash of light came from the alleyway I had been passing. I looked into it and saw nothing there, so I continued on my way, thinking nothing of it. When I had gotten to her house I found that she wasn't there and found a note from her. It said:
Dear Jezz,
I am being arrested for being a spy, please don't worry.
I will sort this out and come back when I can.
Love Kris

I walked home reading the note over and over, just trying to believe that it was true. I passed the butcher shop when I first noticed the strange glow coming from around the corner. It was a flickering light, like a candle. I ran the rest of the way to the corner and turned to suddenly stop disbelieving. My house was like a giant torch, flames liking high into the sky. Shortly after I had came around the corner I saw what had caused it to light, because another fireball flew over the town and hit another house. It was instantly light just as bright as mine. I watched in horror as building by building the entire town was torched. I went over to my house and saw that it was about to collapse. I looked around for my parents, but saw no sign of them. My bike sat in front of the mailbox, so I got on and left town. I slept under a tree that night, and woke before the sun was even close to rising. So I rode over to the tree that me and Kristina had first kissed under, and later I had carved that heart.
