these are just some effects of religion that I've seen firsthand:
one of my friends of mine is a vegetarian. i was once told the story of when she went over another friends house (who was extremely christian) and told them she doesnt eat meat. they looked at her like she had two heads and said "okay..." later when she wasnt in the room the vegetarian's friend and her mom were talking and they said "why would someone not eat meat? God put animals on this earth to be eaten. It's not right" she was being judged, BEHIND HER BACK about not eating meat, a judgement based on religion.
I have another friend who is gay but not really open about it. He finally got the courage to tell this group of friends that we hang out with a lot about his sexuality. One of them, who is very catholic, started to lose a lot of respect for him. She still talks to him, but just lost a LOT of respect. She even said she is homophobic because the church is against gays, and hes pretty sure if he ever dated another man she would never talk to him again. He is now reluctant to do so.
I have had to be pretty quiet about being agnostic because I have many friends who are border line extremists who might lose respect for me or even not talk to me if they knew.
This just isnt right, but anyone else have stories such as these?

Yes though mine a bit more violent. One of my freinds is strictly christan and I' m Bisexual her parents don't like me already because I'm Diffrent so I told her (I go to a christan school with her) and she freaked out and spat in my face saying she never wanted to talk to me again the next day at school all the kids ganged up on me and played the escape game with their fists so I quit that school.

i had to live until two months ago with my parents, who are highly religious. i was abused most of my life, forced to go to catholic school, and multiple times forced to be subject to "healing" of my atheist and lesbian ways. i recently moved in with my girlfriend, and have tried to forget. however, i still wake up with nightmares about my parents, and still have burn marks from a cigar running halfway down my leg. (one for every "sin." being lesbian, being atheist, disrespecting a preacher, disrespecting a nun, disrespecting my father, disrespecting my mother, and running away on several occasions.)

I'm so glad you were able to get out of there. It just makes me sick to my stomach that people are so cruel - especially to their own child.

I lived my whole life as a Mormon and then when I finally stopped going for 4 weeks to church I started to notice that I was being brainwashed by all that stuff so I stopped going. Then I started to tell people I didn't believe in god. I suddenly lose all my friends and my parents didn't like me being a Atheist. I spent 2 years without any friends, because I lived in Utah in a very small town of all Mormons. I got in a lot of fights. And since even the staff was Mormon I was told when I got all the blame that I should "Find the light and come back to Gods way." When I was the one trying to act better then all the other kids studying twice as hard and working twice as hard. I was the smartest student in Math and Science for those two years.

I have to say a lot of that is all pretty ******** up. Blizzar why didn't you report the cigar burnings after the first time? I would have killed my family if they even got near me with a fork.
Zexion I'm pretty sorry for you, personaly I would've went to the principal, sued the students if not take full on legal action (If I had so much as a bruise), anyways after that did you go to a public school or just quit school entirely or what?
Babbs, I have to say I don't care if people are gay or lesbian personaly but when people are all hating on a person for being gay or lesbian that's when I get pissed because they think (This coming from guys mainly) that being gay is ******** up but a girl being full on bi is "Sexy and amazing." (Even though it is >:]) But still what the ******** have to say if they don't stay friends with you because you don't believe in a deity then they aren't true friends. You can probably make friends with just about everyone in the world, but when you start telling them who you really are that's when you find out if they stick around with ya.
Boodoo that ******** sucks. I would've gone to child services though if you need any help and don't care if you lose your family then just googel child services and such and you'll easily find a phone number. Hell I believe it's even in the yellow pages.
My story isn't as bad as all of yours, my friends all know I'm atheist, I go to public school and I have never gone to a private school. I've never been physicaly harmed by my family or emotionaly and so on. The worst I have gotten for being atheist is being dumped by my old ex when I first came out to all my friends. I lost some friends, I gained some. That simple, live and learn right? Not like I have any really true friends cept maybe what two? And they don't give a ******** lulz.
Anyways I have to head to school so I'm gonna have to cut this off here ;[ Try not to allow your lives to be ruined, it's the only one you get. Make it as good as you can.
