One of the most effective ways we, as human beings, communicate how we feel is through the many forms of art. Of these, probably none are more powerful than the written word and the heartfelt song. This thread is a place where you can put your (and please make sure that it is your) work up for the world to see.
If you so desire, you can request constructive criticism from others so that you may improve in your abilities. Please be courteous of others and their work. What you find appalling could be appealing to another person. And remember, poetry is personal. When you insult a person's poetry, you could deeply offend them and hurt their feelings.
Please remember: vulgar, rude, offensive, or any work that carries a bad message will not be tolerated. Keep in mind that this is, by definition, a church of God. Do not bring filth into a place where He resides!!

Glorious, by Ashes Grim
How glorious it is, sweet and noble war, Filled with glorious blood and gore, And how glorious it is to cry, As friends and comrades gloriously die?
How glorious it is, to see the blood, Spill into the glorious, red mud, And how glorious it is to rush by, Not giving even one glorious last goodbye?
How glorious it is, to wake up screaming, From glorious nightmares in your dreaming, And just how glorious is it then, To see the glorious deaths of so many men?

I don't always like to be the first to post lol. This is very different from Ashes' poem. I'm a huge rap fan (not so much hip-hop, actual rap with a message), and I like to write when I can. This is something I wrote semi-recently. It won't make sense to everyone, and as for the meter, you kind of have to hear it to the beat I wrote it to.
Black Keys & Ivory by Vox
Life to me is like keys and ivory And this is just a testimony...
I find it hard to keep a smile on my face Wish I could erase All the past distortions that took place My rhymes are laced With all types of language that's been misplaced A quarter percent of my life has gone to waste When I reminisce It's like taking me back to the Dark Ages By candlelight, and postin' my stories through life's pages Now I gotta lock my thoughts in cages Underneath the eyes of Christ Who paid the price for sin's wages I walk the pavement Urban enslavement Some people's life is like music With no arrangement I been blessed to have foresight through God's light But it's at my feet So six steps ahead of me is dark as night I hope I ain't like those I meet along the way dodgin' stones from Pharisees that are alive today You ask me? Yeah, I got somethin' to say My vocal tones run through Christian catacombs And shatter ya bones Burn church buildings I'd rather meet in homes Build me up instead of building a kingdom of your own With clones My parables are told through microphones Creation moans I write poems that affect the domes Of the stagnant Vox attracts attention through speaker magnets My God starts, creates the Universe and planets Used to tack up on other peoples' property Ain't it funny how sometimes life can be a mockery
Life to me is like keys and ivory And this is just a testimony...
I'm always the exception Ten steps ahead of your projection I could either use my words to build you up or a weapon My rhyme selection Will reflect the shoes I step in Those cats with labels like shirts from "D. of Correction" Locked down in the perception Called spiritual intention You see secretly my rhymes are hidden in your collection The classic Christian Who's better at speakin' than listenin' Sometimes I wanna take passives up against the wall and frisk 'em Put 'em in handcuffs and sometimes even enlist 'em My life schism Been like prison in God's wisdom Some prophets stream dreams Huh, I'd rather live 'em A slave to righteousness and rhythm Not a slave to "ism" My brain waves need stimulation That's what I give 'em Often times, in often rhymes Soften minds to listen close And then read between the lines My design is of the Divine I speak to mountains, ain't no reason for me to even climb I change the whole religious paradigm If I'm dope now, imagine what I'll be like in my prime Sometimes I feel like no one challenges Afraid to spit the truth for fear of tippin' all the balances Ask me where the battle is? It's on Christian cats with calluses In the ghetto thinkin' bout livin' in palaces "Christians" playin' games like Pat Robertson Like it or not, you're our children's future role models
Life to me is like keys and ivory And this is just a testimony...
My life makes musical melodies Shake the heavenlies Readily bless my enemies They ain't ready for me Maybe that's why I see 'em in the corner of my eye Tryin' to figure out how I got this piece of the pie I release peace over N.Y. For all the peoples that died In due time, God says "Vengeance is mine" We wonder when and how We wished about a sacred house In different forms - no idols, just dollar signs and amounts One day I bounce out of Bellevue, take a flight to Belgium With words I take the nations, put 'em together and weld 'em Seldom sold the popular opinion Put bluntly, without Christ you have no power or dominion Everything else leaves hungry people stealin' for wealth It's been too long that I been sittin' on the shelf I tell you, man, that I just gotta move At the same time inform like the 7 o'clock news If my rhymes don't move dudes and crews Or just amuse Then I'm a TV screen for them to switch as they choose I see life in different colors and flavors I'm unique, otherwise I'd be just like your next door neighbor So save a life in every minute Run the race with patience cuz' you know I'm gonna win it
Life to me is like keys and ivory And this is just a testimony...

The inspiration is from the Lord, so the credit goes to Him. I wanna hear what Haven wrote, though... this is his thread and he's holding back from us.
