I'm a native of the Syracuse, NY area; still here. You have to have a tolerance for snow....we get, on average, over 100 inches of the white stuff each winter. Thankfully it doesn't all stay at once - more than a couple feet at any time is getting pretty deep. About 40 miles north of Syracuse is an area that makes us look like amateurs, getting 400 inches.....but that's not heavily populated. I have never had air conditioning; you only really need it maybe a couple weeks a year and then you just go do stuff in the basement or go someplace else with AC, turn the fans on or something. Why am I still here? Housing prices are low though taxes are high compared to other places. The schools are good, we've almost always had jobs....maybe it's a bit of inertia.

It's just kind of about where I am. New York City is 350 miles away and I've never been there, not so odd when you live upstate. This has been one of those weeks when I really would have liked to have AC at home....it has been over 90 and humid.

i live in the Adirondack Park upstate, in the lake George region but more rural.
i love swimming in the lake all summer, and walking in the woods but it's frigging cold after Christmas
like minus 30F!
and it is hard to find a job because there are no shops to speak of or anything.

I live on Long Island-south shore area. Quick train ride to New York City, about a 25 minute drive to Jones Beach ( if there is no beach traffic lol) I went to college in Oswego which is right on Lake Onterio above the city of Syracuse. It's Got Awesome Sunset year round! I love the Lake George area my sister in law's parents owe a cottage on Friends Lake it is serene and clean there.

Seems like NYers are difficult to run into on Gaia. â—„

I live in the Rochester area, not in the city of Rochester, just in a suburb. I am not too big of a fan of new york, though I love the state due to it was the start of Broadway so many music opportunities available. I plan to move to the Orlando area within the next 2-3 years.

The snow was piled so high at intersections you can't see anybody coming. my cousins still live there.

Another Long Islander here. I'm probably one of the few people who has a strong dislike for NYC. Moved up to the Albany area in 2009 and have been here since. I like it more than the busy life down south and as much as I love my family, I don't enjoy the drive down.
