Howdy Guild!
I'd like to unveil a new thread for your pleasure: Weekly Q and A.
Weekly Q and A will involve a question of the week, and your posts- the answer. Or perhaps you have a question you'd like answered.
I will kick off the weekly Q and A with a question that has long since plagued me.
Q: Have you ever had a co-worker/friend/classmate/peer of some sort that is constantly talking about kids (their own, other people's, issues with kids)?
I'm a childless adult myself- so naturally my desire to speak on the topic is limited to asking questions about other people's kids. Even then, I feel like some people never talk about anything else. This question could really be broadened to "Have you ever had a co-worker/friend/classmate/peer of some sort that is constantly talking about a topic which you have little interest/experience with?"
What do you do?

A: I have had this happen once in a while to me, when I was employed. 3nodding I used to have a co-worker always talking about her life in California and her grown daughter who moved to Kansas out of spite and hatred it seemed towards the family, but enough talk of that. Personally, I had no interest in learning about life in California and didn't care what had happened to her grown daughter to bring her to Kansas. I would often try to some how wean her back to a topic I wanted to discuss. That would last for a while and then she'd go right back to the topic of life in California.
I also have a friend of the family who just loves to talk and Mom has a very hard time to get a word in edge-wise. confused The only way to get a word in and get Mom away is usually to say that my blood sugar is getting really low or to say I'll let Mom go home with that friend. This usually gets her away, but it also gets the friend (or should I say so-called friend) to say that I am rude. emo
It seems no matter what I do in the latter situation I'm always rude and inconsiderate. rolleyes In the first example, I always felt that she was only trying to say how homesick she was of her family and friends in California; after a while she did stop talking about California and her grown daughter and started to talk about other topics after she realized most of us could not relate. 3nodding

The majority of the people that I work with are, 99 percent of the time, going on about topics that I know/care nothing about. I work in a department store and many of the employees are older women. They typically talk about their families and what-have-you. I don't have (or plan on having) kids, so it isn't something I can really relate to.
Much of the time, it's not an issue because they talk to each other and I'm content listening to my iPod and getting some reading done in the meantime. Occasionally, there will be a glitch in the system whereby I'm addressed, at which point I just go into autopilot until the speaker moves on. Works every time.

Thanks for the replies to the last Q and A- I've discovered since then that coworker is just really flighty.
This week's Q and A is very open ended and I hope to get a lot or responses.
Associations:
I'm talking about the certain associations you have with certain names, places, etc. For example, 90% of the men named Kevin I've ever met seemed pretty jerky on some level- even the friends I've had with that name have almost always been the lovable jerks- but jerks none the less.
Do certain names or people from certain towns/states bring to mind associations for you?

Do certain names or people from certain towns/states bring to mind associations for you? Generally. Most guys I know named Mike are pretty much jerks, but usually the good kind, for example.

Here are some of my weird associations:
-I generally associate people from Michigan as being back stabby- because most of the worst back stabbers I knew were from Michigan. But I also had a friend growing up who was originally from there and she was very sweet- but she was from rural Michigan I think... that may make a difference...
-I tend to get along with the vast majority of Libras and have a great initial clicking followed by a greater butting of heads with Scorpios.
-Guys named Josh tend to be either the nicest or the jerkiest- there isn't much between I find, it's kind of odd.

Crap, I didn't even consider my list of horoscope related things: Leos and I can get along, but they almost ALWAYS take advantage of the relationship. Scorpios and I get along on a lot of levels, but aquarians adapt to things, and Scorpios take them head on. I know I had figured out my general relationship pattern of almost every horoscope, but I don't remember most of them now.

Guys that I've met named Thomas seem to be overly cocky and not a little undependable.

I know there is more than just this one thing, but I can't think of all those associations for some reason. Oh well here goes. All the Marks I've ever met have dark hair.

Mark) is currently balding! rofl and today's his birthday! 3nodding
On a side note, I've noticed that all the Andrews I've ever met think they're all that! stare And I don't always get along with them either.

This Week's Q and A is more meta... so to speak:
Question:
What additions would you like to see in the guild and what directions would you like us to take? Also, what are some of the reasons you visit the guild as a lurker or as a post?
