Welcome to the door
User Image

The story
It is the year 1765 and strange things have been happening in the large town of Tennance. A mysterious door that only some can see has appeared, and all who have gone in, have not come out. Meanwhile, in the city, reportings of strange sightings have started surfacing. People who were there one second and gone the next, someone who was seen to be standing in the center of a blazing fire without being burned, strange creatures in the river that are much to large to be fish, bodies found without a drop of blood left in them. As these occurrences escalate, one thing remains certain: Something sinister lurks in the depths of the underground river, and the town of Tennance shall never be the same again.

However, those who entered The Door did not simply disappear, instead they found an underground river. Those who did not touch the water simply woke up the next morning with a horrible headache and no recollection of the previous days events. However, those that did were changed. Some found that they could suddenly see in the dark or could hear conversations from hundreds of yards away. Others found they could control certain elements. Some were physically changed, becoming mermaids, werewolves, vampires, or other creatures of supposed myth. As these new beings find greater and greater control of their new powers, what will they choose to do? And when The Water sends its summons, can any of them resist its malevolent call?

A young girl seemingly sat on a rock jutting out of the river late on a dark summer night. A soothing laugh flooded from her lips as she threw the remains of her dinner into the quick moving water. Licking her fingers, her fierce cerulean eyes scanned the area for any signs of life. It you looked closer you could see something glisten at her feet underneath the water. Another laugh escaped her as a tail sprung forth from the water and splashed her with fresh water. Spreading her hands out to catch the stray drops as she closed her eyes in peace. Her long dark bluish black hair sprayed over her shoulders and covered her chest until it pooled in her lap. The scales on her tail reflected the the half full orb of light in the dark night and fins jutted out where her ears should be. Another calm laugh fled from her throat as she spread her damp hands down her arms to keep her skin from getting dry.

Leila sighed as she swung her feet above the water, her toes skimming the surface and flinging bright beads into the air on her down and up kicks. She shifted absent-mindedly on the tree branch she was perched on, wondering how long she could afford to hide before she had to return to town and do her chores. Ever since she had found that door. . . She shook her head lightly. This talking to the shadows thing was really throwing her for a curve. She could feel them whispering from the doorways of buildings, begging her to let them tell her their secrets. And being able to control them. That was a real strange thing too. She shuddered at the thought of the rest of the town finding out about what she could do. She would be burned at the stake, or worse. She sighed angrily, giving the water a much more violent splash. She was already the subject of many rumors because of her cherry red hair, a color that was not exactly a common natural color, she didn't need more for them to talk about.

Alyssa walked briskly through the streets, carrying a small woven basket in the crook of her arm. She was on her way to the market to buy bread, eggs and maybe a spare roll of cloth among other things, but she was fighting the temptation to dawdle as she silently conversed with the basket. She had never been much of a people-person, and finding out she could talk to the furniture had almost been a welcome relief, an loom didn't exactly have much room to judge. I know I know. She told the basket silently. we really do need some more cloth. I promise I'll buy everything and more. No chickening out for me she frowned at the disbelieving snort it gave her. "Hmph," she grunted out loud. So much for a pleasant companion, she grit her teeth as she rounded the corner, emerging into the busy market area.

Jacob ran a hand through his hair in frustration as he tried to calm an irate old lady. "I understand. I really do. No, I will tell Master Spencer as soon as I see him. No, there's nothing I can do personally, but I promise I'll get in touch with someone who can. No no, there's no need for you to worry yourself. It was inexcusable for bad fish to have gotten in with your purchase. I promise it won't happen again." He consouled the old lady again and again. what is it with these old people and complaining. It's all they ever seem to do. He worked hard at keeping a pleasant expression on his face, his eyes catching the sight of Alyssa entering the square from. His eyes trailed after her longingly, Alyssa wasn't all that great as far as conversation went, but he would take even her if it would get rid of the old lady.

((Just for that, I might have to get aggressive. wink ))

Slipping off the rock and into the clear water, the mermaid swam against the current and up shore. Sensing a disturbance in the water, the female followed the lead of ripples until she was looking up at a girl with fiery red hair. It reminded her of a cherry. Smiling, the mermaid swam around her feet before she reached out with one hand and grabbed her foot and pulled harshly, bringing the girl into the roaring river. Once the girl was completely submerged, the mermaid laughed playfully as she continued to swim around her.

((Oh noes! the horror! xd ))

Leila let out a shocked gasp as she plunged into the water, a sharp shriek escaping her lips before she plunged into the river. Her eyes opened wide in shock and she experienced the unique sensation of being able to see underwater, and stay submerged without the difficulty of needing to breath. Maybe a vampire wasn't so bad after all. Spinning around she caught sight of the creature that had pulled her into the river and she felt what air had been left in her inert lungs leave in a plume of bubbles. A mermaid?! Her shock seemed unreasonable; surely if she could become a vampire other people could have changed as well. Shaking her head she gave her legs a sharp kick, propelling her after the girl, eager to see what this new being was.

Seeing that she got the girl's attention, the mermaid laughed as she decided she wanted to play. Pulling out of her reach, the hybrid being swam quickly ahead and peered over her shoulder at the girl as if daring her to give chase. All in the meanwhile, bubbling laughter both taunted and teased the girl.

Leila did a silent giggle, her stomach contracting with laughter but no air leaving her mouth, seeing as she had none left. The lack of pressure on her lungs was strangely liberating. The mermaid laughed, the delightful sound carrying clearly through the water. Leila rolled her eyes and quickly gave chase, her powerful muscles easily shooting her through the water.

Faust sighed as he had flown through the air, the wind blowing against his face, the pale moonlight being his only way to see in front of him. He couldn't believe that before he found the river he was stuck on the ground, unable to feel the joys and the freedom of the air. The only thing he missed was the thrill of running after a theft, not that he had the urge to steal since the incident. He gazed downward, the view truly a wonder as he focused on a river, two shadows moving quickly in it. Curiosity surging through his veins, he landed nearby, staring in the lake, a few feet ahead of the two speeding shadows.

Seeing that she was playing her game, the mermaid made the girl follow her until they ended up in a lake. She didn't stop swimming until she came to shore and propped herself up in the sand with her blackish blue hair hanging over her shoulders. Looking back in the water, she hybrid woman laughed again from the enjoyment of playing. She'd never had much time to play in her old life and she took full advantage of it now.

((Darling, you forgot something in the profiles. Age.))

Seeing the shadows speed away, he ran after them, wondering what they were. He watched as one of the had neared the shore, a woman getting out of the water and relax in the sand. His eyes were fixated on something shimmering in the water. It looked too shiny to be moonlight. He stepped closer, coughing slightly to get her attention. "Hello..." He said, waving over to her.

((Wait... Damn!))

((Oh! I did. If you two tell me your's, I'll go change it, then add it to the profile skeleton. And wait, when did this become night time?))

Leila shot through the water after her, Damn, she's fast. She thought in slight awe. The river opened up into a lake, and she saw the hybrid stop on the shore. She popped up to the surface, refilling her empty lungs. The woman let out another laugh, and Leila couldn't help the responding giggle, the sound was completely different above water, but both sounded like angels. She began to swim the rest of the way towards the shore, the sound of a man's voice ringing out over the water as she was a couple feet from the shore. "Hello," she called out slowly, noticing how intently his gaze was focused on the water right in front of the hybrid. She wondered briefly if this was a normal human or a River. Reaching the shore Leila reached out and touched the very tip of the mermaids tail, grinning. "Tag, I win," she laughed, the words low enough for only the mermaid to hear. She waded out of the water to stand on the grass, shaking out her cherry red hair, the red curls plastering against her face and completely soaked clothes. "What brings you out into the woods?" She asked cautiously. Not very many people braved going into the woods. Superstitions ran deep, and most of the towns fears focused on this shadowed forest.

Jacob sighed in relief, the old lady had left. He bit his lip, leaning up against the wall as he surveyed the crowd. He was so bored. Normally he didn't mind helping sell at the stalls, but he couldn't hold his attention. Soooo Bored.
