May not be true with you, but I find most who love to read also enjoy writing or at least coming up with new ideas for novels.
I myself love writing (though sadly I never finish one due to not liking what I wrote.), I get inspired a lot but what I've read.
I also like thinking up ideas of what if a book I was reading's plot went another way.

How about you guys? Do you write?

Great idea for a thread!

I used to like to write short stories, but I'm taking a break right now. School starts up again soon which means I'll be short of free time but maybe I'll try again. I don't know. biggrin

I love writing. I just never show anyone ever because I'm really self conscious about my writing. In my AP English Language class last year, however, we were constantly being forced to share what we wrote. The final project for the year was to write whatever we wanted. We just had to revise it until it was perfect and present it to the class. I wrote an Artist's Statement and when I had to present it to the class I thought my heart was going to explode.....

Writing is my life.

Just kidding. But I'd like it to be.

As an aspiring author, I write a lot. I have numerous files on my computer that contain short stories, stories in progress, snippets, or just ideas. I also carry around a notebook with me almost everywhere I go in case an idea comes to me. If I don't write it down right away, I usually can't remember exactly what it is later.

Time for some shameless advertising: I have a blog. If you're interested, I'll link you to it. I don't have a lot of followers, but I dream of the day that I have a following.

It's the kind of blog where I should update frequently but I forget to and where I should have a theme but I really don't.

I'm trying to do BEDA (Blog Every Day in August), but I'm already failing to epic proportions.

El link-o. ^

So it's a blog where I just talk about things that happened during the day or about things that I read or saw or heard or thought about.

If you like it, that's awesome, if you don't like it, go fall in a hole and get eaten by piranhas.

Jay kay. If you don't like it, let me know what I could do to make it better. And I'm talking about like if you don't like the content or the way I write or something. I'm always looking for ways to improve my writing.

I love to write, but my problem is that I get all these ideas but I never can think of stuff to fill everything in. Like I always think of ending first XD Then I think 'Oh well....how is this going to start? what with the rest of the story be?'

I have the same problem as Shakare with novels: I write the end, then the beginning and can't think up anything good for the middle. Most of my short stories were failures, but my poetry isn't too horrible, though it still isn't where I would like it to be...

No way, that's what I do too! I almost always think of the end of my stories first and then the beginning. The middle is always what I have the most trouble with.

I think that's because it's easy to think of something to hook the reader in, like, "Oh, this is exciting and unpredictable," and then you want the end to be unexpected. But filling in all the details and events in between seems almost tedious.

At least, that's the case for me sometimes. I'm actually writing a story right now that's longer than what I normally write but the way I have it is that it doesn't really seem like it's in chronological order. But I have a plan. I can see it happening in my mind as I work on it so I know it's all going to make sense in the end.

And I'm probably not the most qualified person so I shouldn't be giving advice but whenever you get an idea, just write it down immediately and anything else that comes with it. Then leave it alone. If you think of more, write it down. Chances are, if you forget about it for a little bit and then come back to it, you'll be able to work with it more because you'll be looking at it with fresh eyes.

Maybe. I dunno. Did that even make sense? =

It does make sense... My only problem is that most of my ideas come to me at the worst times, or when I'm asleep, so I never can write it down. One time I had this great book idea with the plot all figured out during a test that I had already completed. I took out a copybook to write it down and got into trouble. I instantly lost my train of thought. That really annoyed me. I still can't even remember more than a vague detail.

I write, more than I should in all honesty. I have a completed novel under my belt, I merely need to finish typing and revising it before attempting to publish it. I also write a great deal of poetry, and have three other novels begun, including a sequel. Prose I also am a fan of doing. Free form, of course.

I get inspired by what I read and then I write. I love to write after I've just read a really juicy book because then I'm always really hyped up!

I'm the same way, OP. I used to enjoy writing back in middle school, but I stopped when I entered high school. I try to get back into it now, but I can't. When I DO have ideas, I write 'em down, but as soon as I look at them, I don't like them. I don't know how to satisfy myself.
