A series based upon a flock of six human/avian kids trying to run from evil scientists, while Max the main character finds she is purposed to save the world.

genre: I would think fantasy/action/ sci-fi/ teen sorta think.

My Favorite character is Iggy, his sarcasm, wit, and humor, despite his blindness is just great.

I would suggest this book to anyone, since I find though it's targeted for teens, even adults and younger ones enjoy it.
Also the chapters are usually only a page or two long which is great if you can't devote a lot of time to reading in a day.(Though mind you may have an issue putting it down because it's addicting.) Don't let that fool you though, because there are like over 100 chapters per book in this series of six (number seven will be out next year.)

So has anyone read it?
If so what do you enjoy about the book most?

I've heard a lot of good things about the series, and the author. He rights for adults too, right? My dad has a lot of his novels lying around the house.

Is it set in a modern world, or is it more of a fantasy world?

I rather enjoy them; though, I have only read the first and second since I have a bunch of books that I am trying to read.

Its set in the modern world, and I would think it was fantasy since a couple of them have interesting powers. Like Angel can read your mind and breathe under water.

I would have to say that Iggy is also my favorite out of them. He's just really awesome.

Have you read the graphic novels they have started making of the series? I rather enjoyed them, especially seeing how they pictured the characters.

No I didn't read the graphic novels of it..I've seen a bit of it previewed in the books, but didn't like it much.
I guess it's because I pictured the characters different so it ruined it for me..
I can't wait for the movie though...
Oh and yes, James Patterson writes for adults too, and has also wrote Daniel X series.

I enjoyed the first one immensely. Then I read the second and third and was like "eh, okay, not bad," and then I was like, "okay, he needs to stop now."

I've never read any of his books that are more for adult audiences but I did read this fascinating article on how he writes an outline (a very detailed one, mind you, with lots of details and background and everything) and then hands them off to other people and they write the story.

I read the first one and thought ehhh. It was okay, but not really my speed. I mean I am a fantasy/sci-fi geek, and yet I found that these books were just too.... I don't know, but I do know that this was one of the few books I couldn't get into.

I love the series ^_^ Have you read the Lake House by James Patterson? I read it just last week. It confused me o.O I believe the Maximum Ride series is based off the characters in it. The Lake House is about 6 human-avian hybrid children. The only one with the same name is Maximum though, and they are different ages then the Maximum Ride series, as well as have gone through different events. I think after he wrote the Lake House, he decided it'd make a good young adult series. It perplexed me just because of all the similarities and all the differences but I enjoyed it. If you haven't, you should read it and let me know what you think.

I actually ordered two of the books, and i was disappointed when it was the first and the last. Although i don't really think you have to read them in order because he explains what recently has happened. My favorite character would have to be Fang. I just love how mysterious he is. I also loved the romance between him and Max. My second favorite character would have to be Angel, she grows up so much throughout the series.

I cannot wait for the next book to come out. Is there any way of pre-ordering it?

@Madymouse

You can probably preorder it on amazon, or on a bookstore's website, like barnes & noble or borders.

Thats how I was like when I read the books.
I was shocked to learn that he has ghost writers. Its sad then an author is to lazy to wright their own books.

After the third book, they just got way too environmentally friendly. And the plot is going way downhill. crying

I actually read the manga of Max Ride first. I just happened to see it on the shelf, liked NaRae Lee's style and ended up buying it. How I got reading the books was my teacher actually had the first book in her classroom, so when we had to choose one for book club me and a friend immediately grabbed that one xD And I really liked it. So did she. For the rest of book club, we read the remaining books that were out at the time, which I believe was 2, 3, and 4. MAX wasn't quite out yet.

Then the second manga came out so I bought it...Because I read the manga first, I have to say I picture the characters like the manga characters sweatdrop My favorite characters are Fang and Iggy, and I actually drew them on a pair of my shoes (:

Once MAX and FANG came out, I read them both, and ANGEL is out now too but I haven't gotten it yet. I'm the kind of person who has to re-read the whole entire series to remember what happens XD

OH SPOILER ALERT did anyone else hate that Fang left the gang? And that new dude who came in and basically replaced him? (Haven't read in a while, forgot his name...........)

Aside from Max Ride, I did try to read his Alex Cross series and...I just couldn't do it. Not my kind of interest. I've seen more of his books around, like 7th Heaven and all those, but haven't picked them up and looked. He also has a nonfic book about King Tut too, which I found weird because I didn't picture him as a nonfic writer. I also have the first book of Daniel X sitting on my desk. It seemed really interesting but I haven't started reading it yet.
