We all have the exercises that we enjoy, and the ones that we would rather put off as long as possible. So what are they for you?

For me, I really enjoy yoga poses like Downward Facing Dog, and the Warrior pose. I also like doing lunges and torso twists.

My least favorite exercises are definitely jackknives and push ups, and to a lesser extent, the Triangle pose.

I never love doing the balancing kata in martial arts class, mostly because I end up sacrificing technique for balance more often than not. I also really hated doing back bends -- bow pose, cobra, frog -- in yoga for a long time (and I still don't like doing them).

I read something in a Yoga Journal once, though, about yogis who deliberately practiced the poses they hated. It became important to do those poses because it meant there was something in their body that was resisting it, and the only way to remove that resistance was to keep practicing.

So, as a result, every time I do the Plow (laying on your back with your legs raised up so the toes touch the floor above your head), I make myself follow it up with something that will stretch it the opposite way. What was really interesting? The first time I really made myself work through this, I had one of those emotional releases you read about or hear of in classes sometimes. Yoga really opens up your body, and it really makes a person aware of how they store their emotional problems in some physical place.

...As for balancing kata, despite really disliking it, I make myself do it anyway. I'm never going to fix the problems if I don't actually practice.

This is the first I've heard of yoga triggering emotional releases. It's an interesting idea.

I've been trying to force myself into attempting the jackknife more often, which is why my ab muscles have been protesting everytime I bend over for something the past two days XD

There may be something to what you said about doing the exercises that you hate. But I still hate jackknives and push ups!

I've been trying to push myself to do the exercises that I dislike most. Surprisingly, the wii keeps complimenting me on my ab strength. I'm not sure if it's misreading me or not, since it can only judge my jackknives by how hard my feet touch back down on the balance board.

Still, it's nice that the personal trainer who lives inside my wii thinks so highly of me! XD
