Sylvia Danger Storm "The only thing worse than beating a dead horse ... is betting on one."
_______________________________
Sylvia had been surprised that she had actually managed the other girl to go shopping with her. It had seemed like a long shot at first, but here they where, taking the city by storm. Syl smiled to herself. By Storm. Sylvia felt that there was still awkwardness between her and her shopping buddy. She was trying to get rid of that the best that she could, with little success. Maybe she was just imagining things, the awkwardness could be all in her head. Well, being awkward was better than being dreadfully bored like she would have been otherwise. She couldn't stay in the mansion for too long without feeling like the walls where closing in on her. She was just so damn restless lately.
It had been about an hour and a half, and Syl had already blown half of her funds on shoes and a few outfits. She kind of felt guilty spending all of this money without even offering any to Laney, because it was Pete's money after all. Syl decided to kill two birds with one stone, and try to do away with the awkwardness and share at the same tiem. Syl stopped at a bench outside of the last shop she had been in, and sat down. She had two bags on each arm already. She had gotten a pair of jeans that fit her perfectly, and that wsa just awesome. Usually jeans where either too ig or too short."Is there anywhere that you want to go? I'd feel guilty if I spent all of this money on myself while I just dragged you along. So, where do you want to go?"Sylvia looked around. For all anyone else knew, they where just two girls going shopping. Sylvia liked having this sort of anonymous outing, and she knew that if she decided to take Pete up on her offer that it wouldn't last for long. But maybe she would like being recognized even better.

Celaeno was feeling like a horse in its stall at the mansion. ANywhere she went was just her shop out in Brooklyn. Unlike her dad she wasn't a total social recluse when it came to people. Laney never had any close girl friends because of the constant moving with her dad. She rarely made friends long enough to get an invitation to a sleep over before they were on the road again in their camper. Then they sold the camper for a truck. All though the girl felt like it was an adventure, she never got to bring any friends along with her. So here she was with a perky blonde shopaholic who happened to be a real sweet heart. Laney wasn't too good at shopping and didn't have much of a fashion sense. She went into stores quite willingly and helped the girl pick out outfits in the dressing rooms. Sylvia Storm, daughter to Johnny Storm looked great in anything she bought. Laney's copper hair clashed with many colors and it was hard to find something that looked nice. However she didn't mind at all. Laney was having fun. She glanced up from the bench,"Huh? Oh, I don't know. I saw a great old-time book store down the road. We could go there." Laney stood up and brushed her hair back from her face. "There was an old jewelry and trinket store next to it, really cool stuff if you want to go there first." She offered Sylvia an uncertain smile, hoping the girl was interested in books and pendants...

A bookstore, huh? It seemed that Celaeno was interested in old things. Sylvia herself was more interested in new things, but that didn't mean that she couldn't appreciate vintage stuff. Especially when it came to clothes, some things she had found in vintage shops went with her style perfectly. But books, well, she would just have to see. The jewelry could turn out to be interesting. Who knew, she could even find something there.
"Yeah, that would be fine I guess. What kind of books do you read? I really don't read books.... sometimes it's dangerous for me to keep so much paper around."More than once she had been using her powers too close to a bookshelf... most of the books survived, but she ruined an encyclopedia set. This didn't really happen anymore now that she was older and more in control, but old habits die hard.
Sylvia was thinking of something,... sort of random but she was thinking of it nonetheless."You know, we're both very fortunate that we can go anywhere without worrying about being... attacked. I mean, I've never had anything like that happen to me, but I know that I could walk down even the roughest area of the city at night, and if anyone tried anything they'd find a fireball on their hands."Sylvia started walking towards the place that Celaeno had said, she was kind of excited. This whole trip was kind of an adventure, something that she hadn't done before. All of her friends back at home where just normal human beings, and they had thought that she was too. But now, she was going shopping with someone that was in the same boat.

A smile pulled at Lane's lips at Sylvia's comment on paper,"I bet doing homework excuses as a kid was easy. Instead of 'Oh, my dog ate my homework,' it would be more like,'Oh I sneezed and my homework burst into flame'. Sometimes I wish I could be a pyrokinetic. Calculus was never fun." On more than one occasion Celaeno remembered her father getting on her back about not completeling part of her math equations. If you want to be an engineer you have to study math. Even though she knew the equations she didn't bother writing them down in her homework. On every test she got an A. It never seemed to please her father enough to let her go out with friends. This was before the release in the Redwoods. When things had been semi-normal for her. "I do like to read old poetry. They have great books here. Emily Dickinson had been my favorite in high school. They might have a first or second edition volume here..." Laney opened the door for Sylvia and the little bell above the door tingled softly as the women entered the old shop. "Well, you may be able to defend yourself easier and control it... Mine goes off the chart and I'd end up blacked out anyway. I don't want to risk it without tearing some poor schmuck's arms off." Lane shifted her bag to the other shoulder as she went down one aisle of books,"And old historic fictions too, like Leroux's Phantom of the Opera? It was a great book. Some of the movie remakes were awful though. The Nineteen Ninety-eight version was worse than that Twilight saga crap they bothered to waste film on... No offense if you liked it." Celaeno ran her fingers along old spines of the volumes with awe,"These are beautiful."

Syl smiled at the other girl. "I flunked Calculus. The only math or sciencey thing I was ever good at was psychology... Old poetry? The only thing she could ever remember about Emily Dickinson was how all of her poems could be sung to the Gilligan's Island theme. She had watched a lot of old TV shows as a child, including Hogan's Heroes and Bewitched. She had always thought they where better than some of the senseless crap that was on tv these days.
Syl thought it was interesting that Celaeno was mentioning how she lost control, and totally blacked out. Syl only was a risk if she pushed her powers too hard, then the blaze could get out of control. But she had learned not to do that. Hmmm. Syl was begining to think that she was really lucky with her abilities.
This place was cute, it seemed like the kind of place that she would have overlooked if it wasn't pointed out to her. But then again, maybe Celaeno felt the same way about old books that she felt about old clothes. They just didn't make them the same way anymore. Syl felt like she didn't want to....touch anything. She was like a bull in a china shop, except she was a pyrokinetic in a bookstore. So she didn't, and just looked.
Syl snorted out a giggle when Twilight was mentioned. She had never liked those books..."Psh. Those where the most unrealistic crap that I've ever read. A waste of my time, all of my friends at school where crazy about them though, I could never understand. I guess I'm just not as starstruck by people with 'amazing powers', you know?"This place was small, and dusty, but comforting. Syl felt like she would be able to plop down on one of those cushy armshairs over there, and just doze the afternoon away. They looked to inviting, withthose pillows, and her arms where tired from carrying everything....
But she didn't want to be a burden either. The last thing she wanted Celaeno to think was that she was lazy. "I couldn't work in a place like this, I'd get too distracted. There's not enough to do, I guess."

"Psychology was a fun course to take back in highschool. I remember one time the boy behind me stuck gum in my hair once. I had been suspended out of school for three days from the punch I gave him. It was more psycho cology." She smirked and pulled out another book, then glanced at Sylvia,"I forgot you're sort of cautious around books. I'm sorry. I'll be quick and then maybe we can get some lunch?" Laney had found a few more books in this section, occasionally gasping in surprise at how low a price was for a great book. When Syl based her comment on Twilight, she grinned,"I think I understand," she joked,"Of course I think the ability to sparkle in the sun would be an awesome power to have, don't you?" Her better-side was coming out. The spunky, sarcastic and funny woman her father never knew opened up to the pretty blonde beside her. She stopped in the manual section and pulled out a Basic Engineering for Beginners and showed it to Syl. "You should come by my auto-shop some time. You don't need to worry about setting stuff on fire there. It's pretty fun once you get used to the smell of oil and burnt rubber. You're either on your back under a car or on your feet in the hood." Laney wasn't sure if she should hand the book to her or not. Her stomach growled and she guessed now was the time to actually get something to eat. "Where do you want to go to eat?"

((Don't want to deal with my coding anymore in this thread lol.))
sylvia giggled, imagining the situation. SHe probably shouldn't be laughing, but it was funny in her mind. "You know, peanut butter works for getting gum out of hair, the same way hairspray works for getting ink out of hair. I've heated up more than one ink pen from test stress. They tend to explode on me." Sylvia kind of missed high school. So far she had no plans to go to college, and her father was fine with that. He knew that she would be fine and find something to do even if she didn't.
Sylvia nodded, now that the other girl mentioned food, she was kind of feeling hungry. "That sounds good. Oh yeah, that's right, you work in a shop. I took one shop class once, the guys could never figure out why I was so good at welding. They got kind of jealous. And don't worry, I'm used to the smell or burnt everything."
Sylvia was fine with books, there wasn't much danger involved to them if she didn't get surprised or snuck up on while holding one. But too many memories of her favorite storybooks burning accidentally had taught her to avoid them. She still read though, E-books where wonderful things.
"I'm not a picky person, so anything really. I haven't had Indian in a while. Wanna try?"

[[Haha, same xD]]
"I had to get it cut anyway. It wasn't the first time gum and spit wads had found their way into my hair," Laney explained and smiled at her. Sharing hair-care was another check off the 'girk-talk' list. "I remember a pen popped right infront of my face. Only it was high-pressure freak accident in an airplane. I was six." She went to the counter after finding some good poetry books, a small collector's miniseries and a few more books of the old-fashioned cars and cycles that she had not discovered yet. "Maybe one day I could take you for a ride on my Fatboy. Have you ever ridden on a good motorcycle?" She didn't mean to make it like an insult on her dad, who had ridden his fair share of of sports-bikes and hotrods.
"If you need a job I could give you one. I could use firepower in welding some of my models." Laney opened the bookstore door for her again as they headed out of the little store. The day's weather had improved and she sighed happily,"We could eat outside. I haven't had Indian before but I'm willing to try it. Lead the way, Sparky."
