Brooklyn; An Auto Repair Shop

At seven AM the shop opened. The large garage door creaked and groaned like an old man getting out of a chair. The young woman who owned the store busily prepaired herself for the day of work ahead. Already she was rolling up her sleeves after finishing up a BMW's broken oil valve. She specialized in older models with more class. As she shut the hood of the car her employees showed up for work around six forty-five. Ollie, her oldest employee and heavy lifter had arrived first, then Ricky and then John. All of them greasemonkeys looking for a car hood to hide under.

It was late after noon by now and not many people came in today. She took the time to work on her 'baby', her special Harley Davidson Fat-Boy. She was waxing the metallic surface listening to Billy Joel's Vienna over the sound system. She didn't enjoy the loud thrasher music when working on her cars.

Celaeno pulled her copper hair out of her face as she turned on the engine, hearing the low growl thunder into ignition.
"Like a chorus of angels," she commented,"That's a good girl, Thelma." One of her employees came over as she turned off the engine.

"I'm takin' my lunch break now, Laney," he informed her. She nodded briskly,"Take the time you need. Pick me up a hoagie while your out. I don't think anyone else is coming in today."
Not after the damn Jiffy-Lube opened up down the road, the bastards. She sighed heavily and stood up to stretch out. Taking Thelma out for a ride tonight would do her some good...
One of her favorite rides was up along the much more foresty-areas of New York or down to the Jersey coast line.

She shrugged off her jump suit and tied it around her waist as the heat began to get to her. Underneith the steely grey was a simple black tank top. The only visible marring on her pale skin was a scar just below her collar bone reaching out to her left shoulder. Most of it was hidden under her tank-top straps. Boredom overtook her as she went to her front desk to look for more files on what she could do today.

"Stupid car....",Vince mutterd angrily as he drove down the street in his brand new Puma convertable. The hood was smoking and he was getting frustrated. He had thought he would have been able to make it to his buisness meeting without having to stop and get this fixed, but he was afraid the car was gonna stall out on him again. He spotted an auto repair shop a little ways up the street and he pulled in. He parked the car and popped open the glove compartment, glancing around before slipping a his trusty golden magnum into his suit jacket. He locked the compartment up before checking his reflection in the mirror and running a hand through his neat blond hair.

"Stay.",he said to his large german shepard,Rose, that was sitting in shotgun. The dog layed down on her stomach and whined softly. He petted the dog and got out of the car,not bothering to put to the roof up.
The smell of oil and cars assualted his nose and he frowned. He always hated working on cars and he hated auto-shops even more. But he didnt really have a choice at this point. He went inside and found a woman rumaging through a desk.

"Excuse me?",he asked, putting on his silky smooth social tone, he used when dealing with people he's not yet associated with. He glanced around the shop before taking off his dark name brand sun glasses.

Laney had been penning down times for pick-ups when the smell of big-business assailed her. She looked up slowly, her storm-grey eyes taking in the well-dressed business man infront of her. The young woman knew business men from enough experiences with Tony Stark. It was like all the rich men wore the same cologne. Clearing her throat she stood up straight with a polite smile,"Hey there," she greeted,"What can I do you for today?" She took this chance to get a better look at the man. Designer glasses, probably a thousand-dollar suit. Usually men like this had only the eye for the make of the car and not the true inner-workings of them.

Something felt immensely different about this man. Sure she could dip into his mind but something about him.

Vince's eyes quickly surveyed her. She was fairly good looking actually, long beutifull hair and excotic eyes. 'Shame she spends her time working here',he thought. She might have even been model type, given of course a few touch ups and wordrobe make-ups that would have to be in order.

Vince cleared his throat subtly and spoke.
"Yes.I purchased a car about two weeks ago and as I was driving down the street the hood of the car started to smoke.",he said.
"I'm in sort of a hurry but I was wondering if you could fix it?",he asked, his voice was again low and patronizing.

His mutant abilities sub-conciously kicked in as his mind lightly scanned hers. Trying to detect her mind state. He could sense her analazation of him but detected nothing he should be worried about. She actually seemed comfertable which isnt something most people were around him. Of course such little information could be misleading and it was something he cursed about himself. What good are telepathic abilities you can barely use? He would never understand why he had gotten the short end of his mothers abilitie. But still he felt gratefull that he wouldnt have to try and ease any kind of discomfert that he typiclly got from most shop-owners and such. Hopefully that would speed up the process of having the car fixed. He glanced out the window just to double check his car was still there before turning his attention back to the woman.

Celaeno felt him in her mind immediately. She was a strong psionic, possibly stronger than him. He didn't delve to deep in her mind which was good. If he did he would have been on his a** and out of here. So he is a mutant, she thought.
"You know," she said, leaning forward over the counter towards him. Her voice went low and sweet as she gazed into his eyes. Her dangerous stormy-eyes that shone with almost brief flashes of lightning,"It's rude to be in someone else's mind when they don't want it." She moved from around the counter without another word, going to his car.

He may have been a handsome cad, but a cad none the less. Her phone beeped in her pocket and she whipped it out and read the text from Pete Stark. Today would have gone so well too. The beautiful german shepherd in the passenger side of the car wagged her tail and greeted Laney,"Hi there sweety, look at you," She grinned and rubbed the dog's ears and scruff of the neck affectionately before opening the hood of the car. Laney gagged when the smoke hit her face, the heat watering her eyes.
When the smoke cleared she pulled on her jump suit, her name-tag reading 'Lane' in red letters on her left breast. She began to inspect the engine under the hood. She pulled her hair back once more and coughed again,"Your front suspension is ********, pardon my language. I can fix it but it will take a few hours. You should get your dog out of the front seat too, the fumes are terrible for her."

Vince tensed when she called him on his power.
"It's not something I can controll.",he stated bluntly his voice dropping considerably.
"My mind auotomaticlly reads people's emotions and what state of thought there mind is in.",he put his shades back on and follwed her out side.

He whisteld for the dog and she jumped out of seat and trotted over to his side.
"And by the way, pray don't tell a soul about my abilities,I take great care that people dont know about it.",he said his voice becomming silky again.
"As far the car. I couldnt even tell you what front suspension is. All I know is that some dealer told me this thing could go from 0-100 in 4 seconds.",he said honestly as he kneeled down beside Rose and took a dog biscut out of his pocket for her. He played with the dog a minute before he stood up and sat on the edge of the car.

"So I take it your a mutant as well?",he asked intrigued.
"No normal person would have been able to sense that.",he said, using an openly flirty tone with her. If he was stuck here for a while he might as well get to know her. Knowing people ment knowing how to gain power, since the people were the power. He was probably going tp get a throughough chewing from his uncle later, for missing the meeting though. He had put this aside for several days and it was imperitive that the matter was adressed sooner or later.

Laney began to tinker around,"Yeah well, you should try it some times. You could get into a lot of trouble with another person who could be much stronger and dangerous." Though she doubted he do a damn thing about it. She wiped her hands on her jumpersuit, the grease staining it.
"Yeah, you got jipped. He may have said 0-100 in four seconds but he didn't mention that the whole engine would sputter up and die. You got ripped off. Hopefully you can get your receipt because," she flicked a lock of copper hair out of her eyes and looked at him,"This thing will not get to 0-100 in four seconds anymore, I guarantee it." She walked over and opened the garage spot for his car.

"Mutant, freak, weirdo, what the hell ever people call it these days. Define normal and you never get the same defininition." She opened her specialty tool box, contemplating what she would need. She walked over to where Ricky was working,"I need a fan belt for a Puma."
"We don't carry Puma fans, Laney."
"Get me a mustang one then, I don't care. I need a fan belt."

She walked back and looked over the innards of the car again before looking at him fully,"Yeah well, like I said, define normal."
PostPosted: Mon Aug 09, 2010 3:40 pm

Vince snorted.
"Why don't you ask the general population what normal is?",he said, his voice laced with malice and hate. He jumped off the car and sat down on the curb.
"I don't care what people call normal ok? So don't take it personal but where I come from people were caled mutants. Don't take it personal.",he said as he whislted for Rose to come over to him. The dog whined and suanterd over to him and put its head on his shoulder. He pet the dog and frowned.

"You know any good car dealers around here?",he asked curiosly.
"If you do I'll just go buy a new car, and your welcome to keep this car or scrap it.",he said absentmindidly.
He ran his free hand through his hair as he thought about somethings. Maybe she'd be a good adition to the hellfire club. Anyone who's able to sense his ability is definitly strong. But she worked at a car shop.....Not very fitting of a HellFire club member. Maybe she'd just be one of the workers. Not in inner circle member but still a part of the gang.

Laney rubbed the back of her hand against her eye brow and looked back at him on the curb,"Don't get so defensive I don't mean any harm by it." She closed the hood and looked over the car,"It's just a piece of junk with a nice outer shell. There's a dealer ship down the road but if you want to take my advice don't buy the first sweet ride you see. Be sensible and you won't have to come and see me again."

She went around the back and shook her head. Everything else seemed to be in order save for the shitty engine piece.
"Go with the sensible decision. The best model of car you could get is the 2009 ford taurus. They still make the model of them special down at the dealership. Great car." Celaeno suggested after grabbing a towel and wiping her hands down. She walked over to him and stood by the curb beside him, scratching the german shepherd behind her ears before holding out her hand to shake.
"Laney Banner," she introduced herself.

Vince nodded. "I know you don't mean any harm but others do.",he said sadly. "In a perfect world it wouldnt matter and I wouldnt have to hide my identity but we don't live in a perfect world so some of us have to suffer.",he added bitterly. He was mad but in the end Vince couldnt help but to smile.
"Vince Shaw.",he said as he shook her hand.

He stood up and dusted off his pants. "Guess I'm headed down the street.",he said as he walked over to his car and started clearing out all his files and putting them into the breifcase he had in the backseat. He slipped a wad of cash into the glovecompartment. There had to easily be 10grand total there.
He also grabbed the duffel bag full of stuff for Rose and put it over his shoulder.

"How much do I owe you?",he asked her curiosly,
"Oh!And do you wanna keep the car? If you dont feel like using it,I'm sure you could scrap it for a pretty penny.",he said winking at her.

"It was just a look, so you don't owe me a thing. If you want a ride to the dealer ship I can give you one." SHe shrugged and glanced at the car again,"It will be a fun project but I'm not too keen on newer cars. I love really old ones that have had a lot of time on them." Her favorite was the really old-time camaros. Those were like her playgirl magazines. She didn't talk anymore about being a mutant like he was. She wasn't a mutant like him. She was a monster waiting to happen.
Shaw. I've heard the name before. I'll google him when I get to the mansion.
"If I sell it I'll end up sending you the money. Its your car after all."

"Thanks a ride would be wonderfull.",he said curtly.
"And please,I dont care what you do with the money from the car if you sell it,I have no need for it.",he told her,
"It would be a hassle really.",Vince got a text from his friend Jefferry Sttrange. 'Both Starks gone suddenly,on verge of disscovery?',the text read. Vince thought about it. Well Stark Expo was comming up after all. Must be something for the Expo. He sighed and texted Jeff a quick thank you,and put his phone away. "Here Rose.",he said to the dog and gave her some water from her water bottle.

"Deal then. Let me get my keys," She told him.

Celaeno hurried to get her own car since driving the Fat Boy was not an option. She herself owned an old school Mustang way back from the seventies. She had to redo the whole interior with a proper engine, but it still worked. Cars and Motorcycles were definitely this girl's kryptonite.
She pulled over in it and opened the passenger door from the inside,"Your dog can sit in the back. I put a blanket down already. Hop in."

She put on her own cheap gas-station sun glasses that worked wonders like designers. Already on her radio the Beatles played softly.

Vince nodded and whisteld for Rose and gently nudged her into the back seat. He grinned as he got into the car. He loved the Beatles himself.
"Thanks for going through all this trobule.",he said, taking out his phone and sending out more buiness text.
"I'll be sure to recomend your auto-shop back at the office.",he added absentmindly.

"No problem," Lane said, pealing out of the Autorepair parking lot and onto the busy street. From his thoughts she was able to find where the building was based on only his memory of how to get there. She did not look any further nor did she want to. He was a man and had his privacy. It was not her place to pry.

She pulled up to the side of the office building after the short ten minute drive to get there. Laney switched on her blinker so people could drive around her safely.
"Sorry about your car, like I said, the 2008 Taurus works the best for long distances. The newer models don't work as well." She unlocked the door and waited for Shaw and his pooch to exit before pulling out into the street and waving good-bye politely.
