Arena Information

Welcome to the Project Element: Legacy's player vs. player (PvP) combat subforum, the Arenas! This thread will outline the basics you should know before entering into an Arena.

There are two kinds of encounters featured in the arenas, the normal PvP threads, and the boss fight threads. These two types of threads have different rules and are played out quite differently.

Here are a few basic rules that apply to all fighting in a roleplay:

-No Puppeteering. This means no controlling the enemy character in any way, shape, or form.

-No God Moding. No, you can't be invincible. If your character gets stabbed in the leg, he'd better be limping from that point on in the fight.

-No Auto-hits. When you attack an enemy, you must give the other player a chance to defend themselves. The one and only exception to this rule are things which deal no damage. This can include grabbing the enemy, or pushing them, but never enough to cause harm.

-No Repetition. No matter how much your little pyro loves to launch fireballs, nobody wants to see him launch fireballs over and over again. Be creative!

-No mega-nukes. This is kind of a grey area. The idea is that launching an attack which is practically impossible to dodge is a big no-no. No big waves of fire that extend out multiple football fields, or tidal waves.

-No arguing. If you have a problem with the way the other player is reacting to your attacks, don't yell at him, call in a mod. We're mods for a reason: we act as referees in fights.

-Death is an OK thing. Don't be afraid to let your character die in the arena. These PvP fights are considered seperate from the main storyline. If a character dies here, s/he is not dead in the main RP. You have lost the fight if your character is unable to continue for any reason, whether it's exhaustion, losing a limb, death, or excessively bloody injuries.

Player Vs. Player thread rules:

As mentioned before, there are PvP and Boss fight threads in the arena. Both of these have different sets of rules. These are a few PvP specific rules to be aware of:

-All characters are created equal. They may have varying levels of strength, agility, intelligence, and many other unique quirks and abilities. When all is said and done, however, both characters must have an equal chance of winning.

-No instant effects. If you have a spell that puts your enemy to sleep, or makes them lose control of limbs, or weakens an enemy in any way, you can't just point your finger at them and make it happen. These kinds of effects require either physical contact, or some form of trap, or projectile.

-Don't forget about time. It's one of the most obvious rules, but one of the most oft forgotten: If your enemy is charging at you to cut your throat, you probably don't have time to belt out a monologue or cast a big spell before they reach you. Your biggest priority when an attack is coming your way should always be to prepare for impact.

-Don't be a chatterbox. Again, when you're in the middle of fight, listen to big monologues about how powerful your character thinks he is... just gets boring. It's non-sensical, redundant, and sounds like something straight out of Dragonball Z. This isn't a rule we'll be enforcing much, just be aware that your oppenent might just quit out of boredom if you're chatting too much.

Boss Thread Rules:

Boss Threads are an entirely different entity than PvP threads; Completely different rules apply. A boss fight consist of an RPer or multiple RPer's fighting against a super-powerful boss class enemy. These bosses will be controlled by the Ultimate Quest Master NPC. Here are some of the rules of these Boss Fights:

-A boss enemy isn't like a typical RP character. All RP characters are chreated equal. A boss is an enemy who has extremely powerful, completely outclassing the RPer's fighter.

-No, it will not be a fair and even match. The idea here is to use your brains. Be strategic, and use any leverage you can get to your advantage. Use your environment, be tricky, fight dirty, do anything you need to do to win.

-These fights will be big in terms of scale, and encounter length. They might even take place across multiple locations, but will only last as long as you want it to. If you feel like you want the fight to end sooner, don't be afraid to say so.

-You are fighting on the boss's terms. The boss chooses the location of the fight. This can have a lot of effects. Maybe the fight is in an icy cold place that causes your character to clip and slide, as well as tire more easily due to the cold.

-No suprises. All of the capabilities of the boss, and the effects of the location will be spelled out for you very plainly. You will not go into a fight with a boss without knowing first what you're up against.
