Present Day: The current date is May 22nd 2033. For the first time in over two decades, there has been peace in the warring states of the world. Each attempting to dominate the other and gain the upper hand in creating a new world order.
History: On September 14th 2011 the economy's of the great powers of the world collapsed. Everything went to hell as WWIII raged across the continents. As the years progressed, few things got better. War, famine, racism, fanaticism, poverty, and excessive crime became only simple problems in the world. For years, it was the soldiers and mercenaries who ruled. But finally, in the year 2020 an experienced politician stepped up and attempted to place the countries back together. At least those that still held some border. His name was Alexander, and he was known to the world as just that. Issues with trusting this unknown politician changed as his ideas and own section of land, a plot that covers little over half of what used to be the state of Washington, began flourishing.
Now for the fun stuff.
Races:
'Vampires'- There are 4 different types of vampires, and in this world each of them fancy their names as a true title.
'Therians'- Spiritual beings, shape shifters, created in some means by Neopaganism Shamans during the beginning of the great recession. They come in all different shapes and types, but none are any more than human outside of their animal forms.
'Combination humans'- A 'playful' nickname given to those who have spliced human/vampire DNA. Created by scientists under the watchful eye of Alexander.
Vampires:
There are a few finer details about playing a Vampire:
-They are still an unknown race as of yet, no one knows that they exist other than in works of fiction.
-They do not sweat, they do not eat. The mundane things such as these do not apply to these Immortals.
-They are not required to sleep, though if they do it iften helps rest the mind and process the events that have gone on throughout their wakened hours. The do not dream, other than in special circumstances as a Vocaure. (There can be exceptions to this rule if your Immortal or Vocaure has a supernatural mental talent.)
-They are not required to breath, therefore being 'out of breath' is not one of their capabilities. All that is required to sustain their bodies is blood. This blood can come from any living organism. So long as it is the mouthwatering, coppery, thick, sanguine liquid of a living being.
-Two classes of Vampire ARE capable of walking in the sunlight. These are the Immortals and Vocaure. The 'Animals' may not. Several minutes in the sun with kill them. Any exposure to UV light beings a very fast paced deterioration of the bady that does leave scars and requires immediate feeding to heal.
-The thirst is an addictive thing. If left unchecked, there is no stopping the addiction from overcoming logical senses. This applies to any Vampire.
-Immortals- The title that encompasses Vampires created in 'good will' rather than simply through thirst. They have more control over their feral emotions than their Vampire counterparts but much less than those of the Vocaure. They are still walking dead, but are not harmed by sunlight and are still able to recall some of the events from their lives as human beings. Though these Vampires feed on human blood, they do not feed on humans themselves. Or, if they do, they do not kill the subject, and instead coo them into a slumber and take what is needed. It is not impossible for an Immortal to shift into 'Vampirism', as all that is needed is to simply kill a human being in the midst of feeding. In which they are reverted to a more feral form and their eyes changed to a deep, almost black, brown or black. These are a relatively rare types of Vampires. Fewer than two hundred around the world altogether, and even a smaller percentage are gifted with supernatural abilities.
Features and Physiology:
-Steel blue eyes. This indicates innocence.
-Physical contact with an open flame causes combustion of the skin and near instant immolation.
-Vampire(Known to Immortals and Vocaure as ' Animals')- The typcial Vampire that brought around the old stories, fairy tales, and superstitions. They remember little of themselves before the change other than there names and a few memories here and there. They're crazed, feral people. Acting on instinct and impulse at most all times. They make up the larger populace of the Vampiric entity around the world, numbering in the few thousands. The rarity of one being gifted with a preternatural ability is quite slim, but not completely unheard of.
Features and physiology:
-A lack of depth in black colored eyes.
-A weakness to sunlight, exposure over a few minutes causes decay on a massive scale. Little more is left after five minutes than bone.
-Flame effects them just as powerfully as it does the other immortals.
-They have little real self control. Predatory instincts are more common among them than actual trains of original thought.
-Vocaure- These are the rarest and most human like of the 'dead'. Though not truly dead, the Vocaure have slight heartbeats and are not effected by flame as are their counterparts. Most Vocaure are decedents of other Vocaure, for few Immortals can reach the state of peace and abstinence from human blood that is required for the spiritual test to occur. Vocaure feed from nothing but live animals and only do so once or twice a moon. Little more than three dozen exist. No ordinary Vocaure is known to exist, all are gifted quite powerfully. Most are soldiers or coven leaders.
Features and physiology:
-Though still technically members of the living dead, the Vocaure maintain very human emotions and reactions. Along with a very powerful, and often cold, strength of will.
-Their eyes are the color they were born with, a full bred is normally has a middy brown color. Due to the fully appreciated closeness with death.
-All have a particularly powerful supernatural ability, and none share the same exact one.
'Unborn' Hunters- These are potential Vampires who have either, tasted Vampiric blood and gained the slight abilities, or who have not yet mustered the will to go through with the full feeding. As the transformation is excruciatingly painful. They are stronger than the average Vampire, but can often be defeated by one or more who are decently powerful. This, as far as written history goes, is but a myth. But who knows, every myth has a drop of truth in it.
Features and Physiology-
Obviously little is known for fact, but there are descriptions in the myths of Immortals.
-Unborn Hunters are impossible to pick out from a crowd. They do not appear any differently than they did before. Since the transformation has not been completed, their eyes still remain their original color.
-Though not as powerful a their fully transformed counterparts, an Unborn is still quite a match for any Vampire. With portions of strength and knowledge gained from those who they have fed upon.
-Unborn are fueled by the same prerequisites as their fully fledged counterparts. The addiction is already at it's beginning stages and is incurable by anything but death. In the old world, any who fed upon Immortal blood was put to death immediately. For whatever reason.
-Hunters- A type of Vampire that isn't often seen. Even in recorded history. only four have ever known to come into existence. During the 'Union' (When a Vampire intakes the blood of another being) memories and knowledge are taken into the mind. When a Vampire drinks the blood of it's own kind, the age of the victim and their power are also absorbed. Of course, there are drawbacks. To become a hunter, the first cannibalistic kill must drain every drop of blood from the other Immortal, in this process a pain and agony worse than any other known compounds exponentially with further amounts of life drawn. Very few have ever been born with the self control to obtain such a state, and ever after this transformation the Hunter can no longer feed on mortal kind; but to sustain their life force they must feed on Vampires. No known hunter has ever reached more than three Unions.
Features and Physiology:
-Pupils become obsolete and disappear leaving a solid crimson eye.
-After intaking the blood of another Immortal, they grow in strength and knowledge equal to their victims. Also, if the Immortal that the hunter is feeding on holds any supernatural gift, they inherit that as well.
-A hunter is completely controlled by thirst, greed, and power. After the four hunters, only one of the Pack still lives, as only the Ancients have the time, experience, and power behind them to defeat one. In every battle recorded, the ancient has only defeated the hunter through means of fire; and they have sacrificed themselves in the process.
-Their energy and life force grows exponentially with every kill. At one union, a year old Immortal is more powerful than one who has aged a thousand years. At two, their power grows stronger than the elder Vampires (Over five thousand years.) At three, the only hope for the Immortal world is complete cooperation.
At this time there will be no one who chooses this character type to start with.
Ancients: (Another non choosable)
Anceints are known only by their age. Though no different from other Vampires in definition, these are the strongest, wisest, and most experienced of all the classes. The original 'pack' of Vampires consisted of the five ancients Bruust, Cain, Demetri, Margarette, and Rose. There are plenty of legends of how the originals came to be, but the only certain fact is that they were all born at the same time.
Due to the anomallies called 'Hunters' only one Ancient remains today. Cain. Though this ancient is an 'Animal' he is no foolhearted being. His whereabouts are unknown and he has not been spotted nor heard of in over three thousand years.
Now, a few other Vampires are considered ancients as well. Being as this term coinsides with an age of over ten thousand years, the number is ,indeed, only a few. Since the belief that the another Hunter is to come into our midst soon, as predicted by a mathematical equation, many of the 'Ancients' have also gone into hiding.
(Thanks to Adrienne and Chunnin's cooperative work. I bring to you the new and improved Therians.)
Therians: Therians are spiritually powerful human beings. Some turn on their own, by recognizing their nonhuman souls and feeding into it until it finally devours their physical form and changes them into their 'true' selves. Others achieve this by being recognized by Neopagan shamans, who in turn help them to make the change. Therians become two beings, and are able to live among the human populace with ease. They are not a contagious disease, nor are they immortal. Simply humans birthed with a soul that is non human.
Background on Therians:
-In common society, it is illegal to discriminate against Therians, but that does not keep it from happening as the world does not have any solid law. This also differs from 'country' to country.
-Therians live around 300 years. Childhood is from birth to age 13, adolescence from 14 to 30, adulthood from 31 to 230, and elderly from 231 to death. The Therians, though not slow to mental and physial development, have higher standard of Intelligence and understanding in organzied groups.
-When in human form, Therians are physically undetectable by anything other than one of the Vampiric race or another Therian. Vampires often mistake Therians for Vocaure because their smell. It is the only thing that indicates them. As the Vocaure smell like animals, what they eat, the Therians scent is the same, what they are. This mistake is not made vice versa.
-Therians can tell other Therians apart from normal humans from their scent as well. All Therians, even in human form, have a very keen sense of smell. Therians generally smell like their power animal. Humans have a their own kind of scent, mostly like sweat, as do Vampires. This is why the mistake of 'Vocaure or Therian' is not made by the Therian race.
-In addition to strong olfactory senses, Therians in human form also have a secondary enhanced senses, based on their power animal. Example: Birds of preys have enhanced eyesight and hearing, most land animals have heightened hearing, aquatic animals are deft swimmers, etc.
-When in animal form, there are many ways to eliminate the thoughts of them being a regular creature. On average, they are much larger than the other animals of their species. Also, they react intelligently where as their natural counterparts would respond with a 'fight or flight' reaction. Their most obvious feature, if heard, is the structure of their sounds. When not speaking through body language; howls, grunts, growls, sighs, and other such methods of communication have an audible grammatic build.
-Relationship with vampires: Most Therians view vampires as unnatural abominations, because vampires are the living dead. They are seen as things that have refused to be one with the circle of life, removing themselves from it by being eternally dead. They are worse than phantoms or ghosts, whose hold on the physical realm can be released with the aid of a shaman. For Therians, vampires smell like concentrated ammonia, allowing Therians to smell them before they even see them. Therians either try to kill vampires, or avoid them. Tribal Therians kill on sight. If a Therian is discovered by a vampire, it is not uncommon for them to be fed upon, for Therian blood enhances a vampire’s already powerful senses and abilities. Therians are capable of keeping up with a vampire in both speed, strength, and physical prowess.
-Therians began as random happenstances. Nowadays, there are three levels. These terms are known by breeds, and not by normal society. To normal society, a Therian is a Therian, there are no tiers.
The Willing (AKA The Re-Born):The third and lowest level are those who go through the rigorous metaphysical training of finding their power animal and ritual to becoming a Therian. The reasons for humans seeking to transition are varied, their paths afterwards just as varied. Some join tribes, but many become lone vagabonds. In normal society, seeking out such a transition is generally looked down upon.
The Random (AKA The Lost): The second level is the more common, wherein a person is randomly born as a Therian. In common culture/society, to be born a Therian is to be the black sheep in a family. Aside from family issues, Therians are generally accepted among society. Most random Therians either come into their own, or get the help of a tribal shaman to aid them in the transition. It is not uncommon for the Lost to join with tribes for the sense of belonging they gain.
Pure Breeds: The highest level, pure breeds arise when a Therian is born as the result of a strong Therian ancestry; the more Therians in one’s ancestry, the greater the likelihood of being born a Therian. Families of Therians usually congregate into tribes. The largest tribes can be 20 strong, though 10 is usually the limit. Tribes of Therians that consist of people with one species of power animal are called packs. In both, to be born a normal human is to be the black sheep of the tribe. Tribes are very secretive about their culture, to the point that normal humans know very little to nothing about certain tribes and their cultures. For the sake of helping the Lost, there are several tribes who let their location be known, so that their shamans can assist Therians who need help transitioning. There are mixed feelings among tribal Therians about condoning the transition of a normal human to a Therian. Also, there are a good deal of pure breed Therians that live among normal society, though they do not have the same customs as their tribal countrparts. Those that do live among normal humans are treated like normal humans by tribal Therians.
Half-Breeds- Through genius bioengineering, Alexander's team of scientists have created the ultimate soldier. More controlable than a Vampiric mercenary, these humans have been gifted with the strength of a newborn Vampire. They are impossibly fast and strong and, though still mortal, regenerate at impossible rates. Their reflexes and senses are still generally human, but the scientific community has found a way to mutate human muscle density into something of the walking dead's.
Features and Physiology:
-Other than the obvious differences, Half-Breeds are still human. They die of old age and physical damage.
