Welcome to Middle Earth.
Years after the War of the Ring that shook the Second Age, the world is sabilizing once again. The rise of man is in full sway, and the Lord Eldarion, Son of Aragorn, sits on the Throne of Gondor. All is peaceful.
Or is it? Lord Eldarion has recently come into the knowledge that life is stirring in the ruined land of Mordor. It is possible that the Dark Lord Sauron is rising again out of the ashes of Mount Doom. Lord Eldarion has issued a call to arms to all of the allied lands of Middle Earth, from Gondor to Rohan to the Shire.
Whose side will you be on? Will you serve the King, or the mysterious shadow rising again in the East? Choose swiftly, for time is short.

The Rules
Most importantly, follow the guild rules and the Gaia Online TOS.
My own rules: 1. Do not post your own profile - send it to me. 2. Three characters maximum. 3. Follow my directions for creating your character skeleton. 4. READ. READ. READ. 5. PLEASE POST THE NAME OF THE CHARACTER YOU ARE ROLEPLAYING AS AT THE TOP OF YOUR POST.
A note on Number 5: As most of us will have multiple characters, it's important to be able to differentiate between them. Make it clear and easy!
So I know that you've read these rules, title your character submission PM "Elbereth."

Playable Races
A very important part about this RP is that you choose the race of your character(s). Here are the descriptions of the available, playable races.
Remember: No more than three characters.
Forces of Good Human - Humans are a hardy folk, known for their perseverance and hardiness. Humans allied with the forces of good include those from Rohan, Bree, and Gondor. Famous humans: Aragorn, Son of Arathorn; Boromir, Son of Denethor; Faramir, Son of Denethor; Eowyn, Daughter of Eomund
Elf - Elves, although a dying race, can still be found in small colonies in Middle Earth. They are a graceful, intelligent people, known for their wisdom and cunning. Elves allied with the forces of good include those from Rivendell (Imladris), Mirkwood, and Lothlorien. Famous elves: Legolas Greenleaf; Galadriel; Arwen Undomiel
Hobbit/Halfling - Hobbits are known for their love of food and peace. Although they used to be an unknown race to most of the rest of Middle Earth, they have gained fame since the quest of Frodo the Ringbearer. Hobbits allied with the forces of good include those from the Shire (Hobbiton, Tookland, etc.), and Bree. Famous hobbits: Frodo Baggins; Samwise Gamgee; Peregrin Took; Meriadoc Brandybuck
Dwarf - Dwarves, although not overly friendly, are a very reliable folk. They are known for their love of battle and gems. Dwarves allied with the forces of good include those from the Lonely Mountain and Moria. Famous dwarves: Gimli, Son of Gloin; Thorin Oakenshield; Dain, Son of Nain
Half-Elven - Half-elves possess both the hardiness and wisdom of their human and elven parents. Half-Elves allied with the forces of good include those from Rivendell, or Imladris. Famous half-elves: Elrond, Half-Elven.
Wizard - Wizards of the White Order ally themselves with the forces of good in order to preserve the sanctity of the world. Famous wizards: Gandalf the Grey (later the White); Radaghast the Brown
Ent - The Ents are an ancient race of tree-herders. They are almost indistinguishable from the trees themselves, and are known for their slow, careful manners. It is very hard to make an Ent angry, but when roused they can level mountains. Ents are always allied with the forces of good, and can be found mainly in Fangorn Forest. Famous Ents: Treebeard; Quickbeam
Forces of Evil Human - Not all humans are allied with Gondor. The humans from the East, such as the Southrons, were fiercely loyal to the Dark Lord, and would do anything to help him rise again. These humans are wicked, sly, and cunning. Humans allied with the forces of evil include the Southrons, and other races from the East.
Elf - Although most elves choose to walk the path of light, there are always a chosen few who go astray and find themselves on the path to darkness. These elves share many qualities with their light bretheren, but they possess a wicked streak that can be matched by few other races.
Dwarf - Just as there are good dwarves, there are also evil dwarves, who use their metalworking skills for their own gain as opposed to the gain of those they are allied with. These dwarves are very strong fighters and incredibly hard to defeat in battle.
Half-Elven - These children, born out of relationships between elves and humans who served in the black order, are impossibly bitter about having their parents snatched away from them. They want revenge, and will stop at nothing to achieve their ends.
Wizard - Wizards come in all colors, not just those of the White Order. These wizards are bent on destruction and death, and relish the joy of seeing life destroyed. They will stop at nothing to gain as much power as they can. Famous wizards: Saruman of Many Colors
Goblin - Goblins are hardy, sneaking creatures who revel in the destruction of things other races find beautiful. They are skilled in metalworking, but nothing that they make are beautiful or subtle. Ever since being driven out of Moria by the returning Dwarves, the goblins have been on the run, making their way steadily to Mordor to bring its furnaces back to life.
Orc - Orcs are the grunts of the evil army. They are not very intelligent and find joy in killing anything and everything, including their own kin. Orcs are impossibly strong, but easy to outwit. There are two breeds of orc - the original species bred by Sauron. They are strong and fast, but cannot move in sunlight and are very stupid. The other species, known as the Uruk-Hai, were bred by Saruman to take down the armies of Sauron. The Uruk-Hai are stronger and faster than the common Orc, they can move in daylight, and they are much smarter (not that that's saying very much).

NPCsI am in control of the NPCs. You may not control their actions. As a rule, the NPCs are unkillable by other players, unless stated otherwise.
Character Name: Eldarion, Son of Aragorn Race: Human Allied with: Gondor (he is the King) Homeland: Gondor Bio: Born the only son of Aragorn and Arwen, he always knew that he was destined to become King. After the death of his father when he was 35, he took up the throne of Gondor. Shortly after taking the throne, he received the information of the stirring shadow in the East. He issued a call to arms immediately. He is a very wise ruler, as his father was. He always tries to do what's best for his people and make weighted decisions. Although he makes mistakes, like all other rulers, he is fiercely loved by his people. He has yet to marry. Appearance: See above. Special Abilities: Like all with the blood of Numenor in their veins, he will live a very long life - well into the 200s. Other: He has not confided this in anyone, but he is planning on accompanying the people who answer his call to arms to Mordor. He can't stand to sit idly by while people might die. Three Descriptive Adjectives: Wise; Brave; Charismatic
Character Name: Balzers Race: Half-Nazgul Allied with: The Dark Lord Homeland: Mordor Bio: He was one of the forgotten projects of Sauron during the War of the Ring. By mixing the essence of one of his Nazgul with that of a human teenager, Sauron created the first and only half-Nazgul. After it was determined that his creation would not be fit to fight until much later in life, Sauron locked him in the Tower of the Eye and forgot about him. Now, years later, he has finally been freed from his prison. He is ready to fight, and wants to raise the Dark Lord again to show him how much his potential has grown. He has sent a call out to all of Sauron's old supporters to see if he can gain allies to fight against Gondor and raise the Dark Lord again. Appearance: See above. Special Abilies: As he has the blood of a Nazgul in him, he has some powers like the Nazgul of old had. His sword, recovered from the dessecated robes of the Witch King of Angmar, is imbued with the power of the Black Breath. Other: He prefers to speak Mordor's form of Common, although he is fully able to speak in the tongue of Nazgul. Three Descriptive Adjectives: Vindictive; Cunning; Spiteful
Character Name: Dularein Race: Half-elf Allied with: The King Homeland: Gondor Bio: He grew up in the service of the Royal Family as an errand-runner. As he grew in strength, he was trusted with more important and sometimes risky missions. After performing admirably on a particularly difficult position, King Eldarion promoted him to the rank of Recruiting Sergeant. It is his job to travel to the allied lands of Gondor in pursuit of new recruits for the army that will travel to Mordor. He will accompany the army when that time comes. He is valiant and brash. He does not always look before he leaps, but his quick thinking always manages to help him land on his feet. Although he does not have the gentlest manner of speaking, his heart is in the right place. Appearance: See above. Special Abilities: As he is half-elf, he is very hardy and can go for long periods without sleep or food. Other: Once all of the recruits have been found, it will be his job to accompany them to Mordor. Three Descriptive Adjectives: Rash; Brave; Witty
Character Name: Farenzi Race: Elf Allied with: The King Homeland: Rivendell Bio: After leaving her home in Rivendell at the first call to arms, she traveled to Gondor where she was quickly taken in as the keeper of the war animals - horses and the like. With her unusual gifts to commune with the animals as she would with any human, she makes an invaulable addition to the defense effort. She is a very quiet, peaceful soul. She is extremely greatful to King Eldarion for giving her a job so that she might help the defense effort without actually having to fight. Appearance: See above. Special Abilities: She is able to commune with animals and plants. Other: She has a large crush on Dularein. Three Descriptive Adjectives: Shy; Kind; Intelligent
Character Name: Sibar Race: Elf Homeland: Angmar Bio: Born to a traveling pair of elves exiled from Lorien before the fall of Sauron, she was raised in the dark, deserted land of Angmar. She grew up learning about the world through the harsh eyes of one who has never known happiness. When she had just reached adolescence, her parents were killed by a marauding band of orcs. Since then, she has learned how to raise herself, becoming crueler as the years went on and slowly forgetting what little sense of self and humanity she had. After the end of the War of the Ring, she traveled secretly to Mordor, drawn by the lure of seeing the destruction and chaos left behind by the destruction of Mount Doom. It was there that she met Balzers. They soon became close, and she now serves as his right hand. They have a vague, twisted romance, stemmed out of their hatred towards most, if not all, living things, and their desire for power and fame. Appearance: See above. Special Abilities: Since meeting Balzers, she has learned Dark Magic. Her powers are great, and she has a lot of potential. Her best spell induces a type of temporary plague on the affected area, rendering her targets unable to move or speak due to considerable pain. Although the spell is temporary and wears off within 3 hours, the effects can last for a lifetime. Other: She envisions herself as Balzers' queen, when he achieves his ends. Three Descriptive Adjectives: Cruel; Inhuman; Seductress
More NPCs will be added as I see fit.

-- Dularein -- Dularein sighed, wiping his sweaty hair off of his forehead. Three days he'd been on the road in this blazing heat, and his water skin was beginning to feel uncomfortably light. He needed to get to his destination, and soon. His horse wasn't going to like plodding along like this for much longer. He looked up, squinting at the sun. It looked to be just past noon. He dismounted, patting his horse on the neck, "C'mon, Faerun. Lunch time." He unlatched a feed bag from the side of her saddle and walked her over to the shade of a large beech tree. They were on the edge of Rohan, near Fangorn Forest. He glanced back at the trees, shivering slightly. Although he well knew the stories of how Fangorn's bravery had made the fall of Saruman possible, the old forest still gave a slight case of the creeps. Rolling his eyes at himself, he took his own food - lembas bread - out of his pack and began to eat, listening to Faerun crunch away at her feed, and thinking about the possible new recruits that he might be seeing soon.

-- Farenzi -- The air outside was stirring with a cold breeze from beyond the mountains. Farenzi shivered and pulled her cloak tighter around herself, hurrying towards the stables to give the horses their morning feed and grooming. As she entered the stables, many of the horses tossed their heads and neighed in nervous greeting to their friend. The wind was making them uneasy. She moved around, filling the feed troughs with oats and vegetables, calming the horses with gentle words and touches. She reached her favorite horse, Windfolah, at the end of the long building. Windfolah, who Farenzi had raised from a foal, was a beautiful black mare. She had piercing, dark blue eyes - gifts from her father Maralax, son of the famous Shadowfax. She snorted as Farenzi approached, lowering her head expectantly so that Farenzi could stroke her velvety nose. Farenzi smiled, "Hello, sweet one." The wind ripped through the stables again, startling Farenzi and all of the other horses. Her sharp elven ears picked up cries from the lower levels of the city. Perhaps the wind had knocked something off of a building. She sighed. It got worse every day. The power in the East was growing, and King Eldarion did not yet have enough recruits to combat it. She shook her head and stared out of the window behind Windfolah, towards the West. Dularein was out there somewhere, searching for the necessary talent. She lowered her head and said a silent prayer.

-- Balzers -- Sitting high atop the ruined Tower, a lone figure's cloak rippled in the high wind blowing from the southern forges. Balzers gazed towards the destruction of Mount Doom, watching the lava seep from the cracks in the ruined volcano's surface, slowly but surely rebuilding the fires that had been so essential to Sauron's rise to power... and to his destruction. Balzers hissed softly through his pointed teeth. He was gaining more recruits every day, and once he had enough... that day would be sweet. He would make all of them realize who was the one in charge - who was the most powerful. Yes, he would make them see. And he would never be abandoned again. Just a little more time, and a little more power. They would rue the day they called him - spawn of the Witch King himself - weak. A wicked smile spread across his face, glinting oddly in the half-light that cast shadows across his face from his cloak. His time was nigh.

((hmmm, maybe I will post for all three. And I think I just mixed up Dularein with someone else in that PM I sent you, sorry!)) Fiye Fiye watched the man and his horse from the trees, frowning. Her bow was in her hand, strung and ready. She'd been about to nock an arrow and catch herself a rabbit for lunch when she'd realized how close she was to the road. She didn't like to stray too close to it. Then this man had come riding along. Her frown deepened. She didn't like how more and more people like him had been on the move lately. Something was stirring. A war, maybe? Hopefully it would be far from here. She turned to creep away from the road, and snagged her sleeve on a thorn-bush. How stupid can I be? She chastised herself as the fabric ripped. His horse will have heard me for sure...Hesparia
Hesparia wandered up the hill to the stables. The woman from the town she'd asked had pointed her in the right direction. Humming quietly to herself, she paused in the shaded door of the building, the scent of hay and horses reaching her on a sudden chill breeze. She wished she had the money to buy herself a new cloak, but she hadn't thought to bring much when she left Rivendell. She'd had to sell her horse on the road to ensure she'd have enough money to make it here. She wondered, not for the first time, why she'd even left home in the first place. She was sure there was a reason beyond simple whimsy. There was a woman in the barn, calming the horses. Hesparia assumed this was the person to ask. She stepped into the barn. "Excuse me," she said. "Are you in need of an extra pair of hands here?"

-- Dularein -- Faerun's head jerked up out of her feed bag. She snorted and raked the ground with her hoof, staring towards the forest. Dularein was on his feet in an instant. He moved quickly to Faerun and calmed her, stroking her neck and murmuring quietly into her ear. After she had settled, he turned towards the forest, drawing his sword. Runes glittered on his blade in the sunlight. He took a step towards the forest, holding his sword out in front of him. "Who goes there? Show yourself if you be not foe."

-- Sibar -- The road stretched away in front of her eyes, the stones glinting dully in the glaring sunlight. Sibar glared up at the pure blue sky and pulled her cloak down lower over her eyes. The rustling of it around her feet was the only sound to be heard on the deserted path. As she rounded the shoulder of the road, the White City of Gondor came into view. She bared her teeth at its gleaming walls. Soon she would see it fall. That day could not come soon enough.
Much later, she had left the territory that directly belonged to the King. She breathed a sigh of relief. That had been easy. Thankfully so. She had more important business. Blazers had sent her out to find a certain wayward wanderer that he had seen in his search of the land. She still didn't entirely see the point in seeking him out, but she figured that Balzers had a good reason. She squinted, scanning the horizon for signs of this mysterious person.

Fiye Fiye almost groaned. "of all the idiotic, stupid, disgusting turns of luck--" she grumbled to herself. Her first instinct was to run away, but she was so close to the road that the stranger could easily catch up to her.. If she froze up and pretended to be invisible, he would probably come into the trees to investigate. There was no way out. With a muttered curse, she cut herself loose from the brambles and stepped onto the road, eying the sword warily and wrapping her hand about the hilt of her knife. "What do you want?" she snapped. If worst came to worst, she could always punch him.
