I'm an atheist that has never been to an actual church. My dad is deistic, and my mom is agnostic, so we never did attend any church unless it was for my brothers and sisters ( gonk Mormons!). I became an atheist because I've been on the outside looking into the world of religion and never liked what I saw. I've also done the math on how man could have created God, and it's always been more rational, probable, and logical than there actually being a God. That, and it probably helped that the majority of my classmates (and a few friends crying ) were sucked into a brainwashing Christian cult...

I rarely ever went to church before my choice to be Atheist. Maybe once or thrice every three months? I really see no issue with you never being inside a church besides for siblings...

My church attendance was weekly and forced until I was in middle school, sick all the time, and in desperate need of sleep on Sunday mornings. xD And able to stay home by myself.

I never attended a church, except for the couple years in elementary school when my parents sent us off to Vacation Bible School (not for the religious education, but to get us out of the house). I didn't even know there were denominations of Christians until middle school, and I didn't know what kind we were supposed to be until high school.

i used to be forced to go to church, until i moved in with my girlfriend. however, i have always been atheist. i've never seen logic in a higher power.

My family is polish and most of polish people are strong beliving catholic. Since I was 2 years old we live in Germany, and I think I'm quite happy about it.
We never went to church every sunday like my other relatives did (all catholic). It was more like going there every 2 or 3 weeks. And if we went my mother was forcing all of us. My mother is the most strong beliving at my home. My father is catholic too, but for him it's ok if someone is not religious and he doesn't like to go to church too (whenever he has to go, after a few minutes he goes out to smoke a cigarette xD). My younger sister is agnostic. She doesn't mind to go to church. She is also member of the german YMCA, but it's just because of her friends. I have always been the most aggressive about not going to church.
I had a lot of arguments with my mother about that topic, especially on days like christmas or easter. That made these days become the most hated of the year, because after I refused to go to church, my mother started to ignore me rolleyes
But since last years christmas she didn't talk to me about it and never asked me to go to church again - now she always goes alone ^_^ (or sometimes with my father)
I think she gave up to make me become christian. I'm proud I'm an atheist.

As a child I attended regularly with my family. Then as a teen I went to a religious high school that had chapel services every day. So yes I do have a bit of experience with church - I admit not all of it was bad. I liked the sense of community which I'm sure is a big draw for many religious people. I quit participating in church and other religious gatherings before actually getting to the point of calling myself an atheist. (some of that was just fear of the word "atheist" but I'm over that now lol)

Err... I still do. Except it's Unitarian Universalist, and half the people in my youth group are also atheists. We're like a big, happy, quirky church family that aren't religious neutral

je ne taime pas Err... I still do. Except it's Unitarian Universalist, and half the people in my youth group are also atheists. We're like a big, happy, quirky church family that aren't religious neutral I tried a Unitarian church for a little bit. I actually really liked how inclusive they were and how they really encourage questioning things and finding your own way. I probably would have stayed a longer but they had a different speaker each week and most of the speakers unfortunately weren't very good. Also the choir was just cringe inducing. 4laugh

The church I go to is pretty great, but still I'm probably going to stop going once I'm out of the house, just because there really isn't much of a point for me.

I use to be "christian" though i never really leaned on it...
My parents use to make us all go to church when I was younger around the ages of 4-8, maybe before 4, but I can't remember.
Anyways the church basicly let everyone who was in 6thgrade and under play games downstairs and such... so we never really learned this christian crap, eventually when you get into like 3rd grade they start well, when they started on me it lasted about a year before they said "Yes only God and Jesus are real, no other gods are." and I was all into the hole Hercules show and what not thinking that all gods and such were just cartoons and crap... Anyways I said "What about Zeus and Hades?"
And they just stared, my "Cousin" told me to be quite.... I didn't really figure out what happened that day til around 6th grade.
Everyone was question what they were, religion wise.
I said "Wait, there's nothing here about not believing in a god or any of that..." i got stares from everyone they were all like... "What?"
lulz.
Anyways longstory short, I realized what atheist was, that christians and such were pretty stupid, I haven't come out yet and told my family (Though it's pretty hard not to tell I'm not Atheist... ******** morons for family ja?)... My little brother who I don't really get along with is also atheist though he isn't as vocal as me...
Any ideas of how I should approach my parents about me being atheist? ;] I do like a good fight.
