It was over a thousand years ago he became king. A thousand years ago. It was not long after his reign began that many of us figured out that he was some sort of sorcerer. And a few weeks after that was when we realized that he was a tyrant.
When he first came to power, when we first realized his magic, we hoped. We hoped, maybe, just maybe, he would empower us. We hoped that he would choose some of us as his friends, his advisors. Maybe one of us to be his queen.
"Us" being what most humans call "creatures of the night". In other words, most believe us to be evil beings, unnatural to the world. Elves, faeries, elementals, tree spirits, vampires, implings; you name it. In very few places are we accepted as real, living, breathing, thinking, intelligent creatures. The places we are accepted are a haven to us.
But how we were wrong about him, the king. How very, very wrong. As soon as he was secure in his power, he started to amass his forces. We thought it was for the security of the country.
No, it was to start the hunt. The hunt for us.
Now we are an endangered species. We hide in fear, in secret colonies throughout the land. There are very few humans on our side, and those who are risk their lives protecting us.
But I hear whispers of a rebellion. I hear they are waiting, biding their time, calculating the right time to strike. I hope with all my heart these whispers are true. I don't want to live in fear any longer. I want to raise a family without the thought that they might die before I.
It is time for the death of the King.~*~*~ This was written by a young fey girl almost 10 years ago. A week after this journal entry, she was found and killed by the kings most skilled "monster" hunters. She died believing ferverently in whispers of a rebellion, which turned out...to be true.
The rebellion is a mix of humans and magical beings who take the utmost care to keep their locations and doings secret. But many feel the quiet, almost shadowy shift in power. The tension is building. The people are losing their faith in their thousand year old ruler.
Is it time to strike?

Character Profiles Gaia Name: Little-Lenah Character Name: Zerix Age: 18 Appearance Age: 16 Race: Shapeshifter Gender: Female Appearance: Dead straight black hair that ends half way down her back. She has two gold streaks that run down the front to frame her face. She has strange gray eyes that can seem as cold as steel when she is angry or sparkle like silver when she is in a good mood. She is five feet two inches tall. Her ears are pointed like an elf's. She does her best to cover them in order to pass as a human. Bio: Zerix is as quick to anger as she is to laugh. She cannot shapeshift in to people, only animals. But she can shift in to many different animals at once. She was raised in an elven village when her human father and earth elemental mother were killed by the king's men in a raid. The elves found her a couple days later, wandering the forest, crying. They raised her as a community, so everyone was like family to her as a child. When she was old enough to understand what was happening, she made up her mind and to learn the art of war. A year ago she hunted down the rebellion and joined them. Now, she waits for her chance to strike down the king. Weps: She has two dagger hidden in wrist sheathes, two on her ankles, one down her back, and one visible at her waist. She also knows archery Powers/Abilities: Shapeshifting, duh! Other: Knows the Elven art of hand to hand combat.Gaia Name: Alexander1991 Character Name: Dante Age: 219 Appearance Age: 19 Race: Human Gender: Male Appearance: Black hair, brown eyes. 6 feet tall, and wears magic armour that was made for him by the wizards for his graduation. It looks like a set of simple leather boots, pants and a cuirass, but it is, in fact, as tough as steel. Bio: Grew up at the academy for wizards, but left the academy before graduating. He didn't want to have anything to do with his magic, so he had the head wizard lock the memories of his magic away so he wouldn't use it. He hoped that it would make him feel normal, but his magic still seeks to protect him. So now he can only use simple spells which the head wizard was unable to silence. He travels the world looking for challenges and the hope to better understand the curse he was born into. Weps: Hand and a half sword, worn on the back. It has magical properties, making it ever sharp and able to cut regular iron with ease. Powers/Abilities: Fallen wizard. Able to cast spells that deal with the basic elements. For example: pulling heat out of the air to make a room cold, or heat the air. Other: Trained as a swordsman after leaving the wizards, wanting to be a normal fighter Gaia Name: LollyxBeans Character Name: Xia Age: 104 Appearance Age:20 Race: Dark Elf (Drow) Gender: Female Appearance: Xia's skin is not merely dark; it is black, as coals or the night sky. She is a drow, the dark counterparts to the surface elves. Her hair is a snowy white, hanging down to her mid-back, and curling in front of her shoulders in two large ringlets. Her eyes are a fierce and fiery gold. She is slim, and small, standing at a mere 4'11. Her size beleys ferocity, however; she is not a woman to be trifled with. Bio: The drow thought they were safe in their subterranean cities. When the massacres began, they offered no assistance, and reveled in the death of the other creatures. They alone, they believed, would survive. This is what they told their children, and taught their society. They were wrong. The drow were hunted as mercilessly, if not more so due to their elusive nature, as the rest of the supernatural races. Entire cities fell when the humans discovered the entrance to the system of caverns that hosted their nations; leaving all but a few of their race dead. Xia is one of the survivors. Many drow opted to go deeper, preferring to hide and wait over fighting; but, vindictive and sadistic, many others surged to the surface. It took a while for them to grow used to it, having lived underground for so long, but they managed. Through fury and sheer will power, a company of Drow emerged and survived in the sunlight. Xia is one of their leaders. As a female, she has every right; Drow society is matriarchal, lead by their women. This situation, however, is different; and at Xia's side stands Aryid, her husband and partner. They keep the drow warriors in check and under control, and are slowly integrating them into the society that they held themselves from for so long. Weps: Xia weilds a simple staff, but do not underestimate what she can do with it. For emergencies, she also posesses a hand crossbow, bolts, and a multitude of poisons. Powers/Abilities: Can see in the dark, and heal minor injuries Other: Xia knows a lot about poisons and medicines..Gaia Name: LollyxBeans Character Name: Aryid Age: 130 Appearance Age: 21 Race: Drow Gender: Male Appearance: Aryid stands tall, for an elf, at 5'9. His skin is coal black, his eyes crimson. His hair, like all drow, is white. It is fairly shaggy and roughly cut, since he trims it with his dagger whenever it gets too long. He is muscular, fit, and able-bodied. Bio: Aryid is the voice of reason at the head of the drow company of warriors, tempering Xia's behaviour with soft words and gentle points of logic. He is not above underhanded dealings, however, as he is an assassin as well as a fighter. He was among the first to defend the cities with 'security parties', groups of drow that went outside of the city limits to 'deter' (Kill) any humans that got close. It was during one of these missions that he met Xia. The healer was sent with them to oversee their progress. He kept his head low and his mouth shut, however, because she was female and of a higher rank. They were ambushed, and despite his efforts to keep his head down, he could not stop his falchion. An arrow was shot into their midst, heading straight for Xia's eye. Of its' own bespelled accord, the falchion slapped up against her face, sending the arrow ricocheting away and leaving a scar on the healer's left cheek. Somehow, she grew to love him. They were together atop the citys' temple when the first attack came, and escaped together. They are with one another still, acting as ambassadors of sorts between the drow warriors and...everyone they're trying to get along with. Weps: Aryid keeps a number of weapons on his person at all times. The first is a small hand-crossbow, and it's adjoining poisoned darts, kept at his hip. He also has a falchion, which he stole off of a wizard he killed. It is spelled to automatically deflect any arrows that come within range. Along with these, he has a total of eight daggers and throwing knives hidden on his person. Powers/Abilities: Can see in the dark and move silently. Other: Trained as a fighter, and an assassin. Due to his line of work, he is immune to most poisons..Gaia Name: LollyxBeans Character Name: Rathian Legault Age: 20 Appearance Age: 23 Race: Human Gender: Male Appearance: Rath stands at 6'4, with striking blue eyes and auburn hair. His skin is tanned, though marked with scars, and he looks as if he could easily snap most people in two. He has a short beard, and appears older than he really is. Bio: Rath, as he prefers to be called, is one of the humans that joined the rebellion. His parents were trading in an elven village when the kings' hunters attacked, killing everyone. Including his parents. He was appalled and horrified that they hadn't even noticed, hadn't checked, before they mercilessly cut them down. He had been 13 when it happened, and quickly began searching for the rebellion. It wasn't easy, as a human, but since his family had always been kind and traded fairly (if secretively) with the other races, he soon found someone who trusted him enough to bring him in, when he was 15. It has taken five long years, but he has gained the trust of most if not all of the rebels. And he will not hesitate to hurt anyone who jeapordizes this. Weps: Rath weilds a morning star, and two throwing axes. Powers/Abilities: Rath is a berzerker; a human gifted with 'wrath and rage', which strengthen his fighting abilities, to the point that he can ignore injuries he sustains until he is calm again. Other: Goes nuts when he gets mad?.

ZERIX Shapeshifter
* * * * * * Zerix glowered at the man in front of her. "Seriously? Seriously!" She snapped, rapping her fingers loudly against the map on the table. A blue skinned pixie looked over, suspiscious. A couple other beings looked up, then away.
"Sweetheart" she said sarcastically, "this is going to get us killed. No one, no one, camps out in the middle of a valley and waits there like a sitting duck. That's like handing us to that maggot and saying, 'Oh, king, kill me now!'"
She glared at him. He was another stupid human male, thinking he was oh so superior to her. Please! He shivered under her glare.
"Somebody get him out of here!" Zerix pinched the bridge of her nose. With one last sweeping glance around the room, she turned on her heel and left.
The earthy tunnel walls comforted her. The reminded her of her birth mother. The scent was the same; loamy and soothing. She took a deep breath, then decided that she needed more space.
She went to the tunnel opening, moving the blackish-brown curtain aside. She surfaced between the roots of a thousand year old tree. The curtain was the same as the forest floor, and invisible to all who didn't know what to look for. This was what kept the rebellion from being discovered. Well, one thing, anyways. The second was that this base - their main base - was in the middle of what many called the "endless forest", a forest so old and so huge, not many dared to venture very far any more.
Zerix heard a bird calling in the distance. She closed her eyes a moment, then went for a walk to cool her nerves. Superior? Please!

Dante looked out over his mug of ale. His dark eyes taking in all the little tavern had to offer, from the door that creaked as the multitude of customs entered and exited, to the lady at the bar slinging drinks to people with expert precision. He took it all in quickly, without turning his head. As he took another swig of the watery ale he heard a voice say " Have you heard the rumors?" "What rumors?" a second speaker said. Dante turned his head slightly to hear all the words as the speakers, who were clearly men, were speaking quietly and Dante knew that the best information was almost always whispered. "The rumors about the rebellion. Rumor is that they are planning to attack soon." the first speaker whispered. "That would be a suicide mission the king has drafted every able bodied lad of late. The only thing the rebellion as done is make us go hungry, the new tax the king imposed has practically robbed my family of food." the second said, the resentment in his voice was quite obvious. Dante finished his ale in the next swig and stood up "I should probably see if this man knows more about the rebellion seeing as i know the king or at least i thought i knew him

ZERIX Shapeshifter
* * * * * * Zerix walked to the edge of the forest, almost without realizing it. Suddenly, she heard voices.
"Look! There she is!"
"Its that little silver eyed witch!"
"Shoot her, shoot her!"
Zerix's head shot up. Three men dressed in the bold red cloth of the King's guard were staring at her from the field. One man had a crossbow aimed at her. She ducked and rolled, just as the first man fired. The arrow wizzed past her, missing her by mere centimetres.
She let out an unearthly noise, somewhere between a cat's yowl and a falcon's screech. The men clapped their hands over their ears. She leapt to her feet and took off at a run. Her years of practice gave her the grace of an elf, but not quite the speed. Still, the men would never be able to catch her.
She stopped, a ways in the forest, barely out of breath. She wouldn't go back to the base, not yet, as an extra precaution. There was always the off chance that those guards were not ordinary men.

The man jumped when Dante tapped him on the shoulder with one gauntlet clad hand. "Sorry if i startled you son, but i heard you talking about the rebellion," Dante said.
"Seems i should be calling you son" the older man replied. Dante smiled a sad smile.
"If only you knew the truth." Dante's smile turned serious, "You seemed quite confident in your rumor." he said it in such a way that said he didn't believe that it was a rumor.
The man stood up and looked Dante over as if assessing whether or not to tell this stranger a secret.
"If you want to know more about the rumors then come with me." the man immediately made for the exit. Dante followed after him out of the tavern.
They emerged outside to a biting wind. the wind was a surprise to the men as wooden buildings around them were stuck together like plates of armor, with each one staring a common wall. The man pointed to the fringe of the village where the forest started.
"My home is at the edge of the endless forest, I am a guide who helps the local trappers and loggers with expeditions into the forest. But as of late I've been out of work, more rumors to thank for that." He smirked as he said this.
"And are these rumors as true as the ones you spoke of earlier?" Dante smirked back, he knew exactly what the man was trying to get across.
"Even more so I'm afraid." the old man said as he reached the fringe of the forest and his tiny wooden home came into view.
"In here we can talk freely." the old man explained as he opened the door for Dante.
After the man closed the door Dante asked "So what do u you really know about the rebellion?"
The man sat down and with a swipe of his hand offered a chair to Dante which he refused, preferring to stay standing.
"I was telling the truth about the rebellion, only its not a rumor. Its the truth, i help the rebellion by finding people who are interested in the rumors which we spread. Call it a recruitment plan, if you would, it works." the old man chuckled and waited for Dante's reply.
The man didn't have to wait long "So your a guide who is also a recruiter for the rebellion." He made it a statement to see if the man would reply truthfully or not.
"Yes, that is one way of looking at it" the man said "So why are you so curious about them?" He asked suddenly business like.
"I wish to join them of course" Dante replied, he'd been waiting for decades to say that.
"And what would we do with another mindless warrior with a big sword?" the man eyed the odd looking sheath and hilt that poked up from Dante's back.
"I am not a mindless warrior, i was a warrior for the King until he started down the path to tyranny. I abandoned the guard and set out to find the rebellion so i could help them in there cause."
"Well i am only a recruiter as you have put it. I don't have the authority to judge if your information is true or not. Give me a moment and we will go to someone who can." the old man began quick preparations for a journey.
As he reached for an axe that looked like it had seen a lot of use Dante realized exactly where they would be going.
"Into the endless forest?" Dante asked.
The man said nothing but nodded his head.
Dante smiled to the old man's back as he thought "Great, right when i thought this could not get any more interesting."

ZERIX Shapeshifter
* * * * * * Zerix waited a couple hours, passing the time by winding around the trees until she was almost lost herself. She then stopped, re-oriented herself and headed back towards the edge of the forest, a ways away from the field that she was in earlier.
As she neared the hut at the edge of the forest, she called out like a screech owl, imitating it perfectly. Then she waited a moment before continuing to proceed towards the place.
Zerix opened the door without knocking. "Hey Gren, I saw some of 'em filthy flies to -" She stopped, the expression on her face slowly turning steely. Looking at the guide, her grey eyes flashed with anger. She looked at the man in the chair, then back to Gren.
"Really. Oh come on! Do we really need another mindless-blood-crazed idiot in this goddamned rebellion. I am personally going to skewer the next person to suggest we camp out in the middle of some field! We do not need any more thick headed male recruits!"
She palmed one the daggers strapped to her wrist and pointed it in Gren's direction. "Hear me?! SKEWERED!" She snapped. With a quick turn of her heel, she spun around and stomped out the door.

Dante rose and walked after the elf woman, not at all put off by being called a blood crazed idiot.
He followed her out the door and as he approached her he said "Blood crazed idiot very creative. Although you are completely wrong. I was learning discipline and patience before you were born young lady." Dante smiled and put a hand on her shoulder "Besides, I have information about the king your trying to defeat." He said quietly.

ZERIX Shapeshifter
* * * * * * Zerix heard someone follow when she left. The footsteps didn't sound like Gren's, so she assumed it was the other fellow who was following her. She kept walking when he started talking to her and even gave him a sickly sweet smile when he sarcastically called her insult "creative".
But when he put his hand on her shoulder, she stopped abruptly and said in an icy tone, "Don't touch me."
She slapped his hand away, backing away from him a few steps and pointing the dagger at him. Her eyes shone bright as silver, cold as steel. "Young lady? This war has made me anything but young." She spat the word at him like it was something vile.
"And information, you say? Well guess what, sweetheart, that's what the all say. You know what happened to those who told us that? Well, lets just say a little...misfortune...came their way. It made that little maggot scowl and have a hissy fit like he got bit by something nasty. I was smiling, though. Oh yes, I was just grinning from ear to ear." She laughed bitterly.
She balanced on the balls of her feet, glaring. Tucking a strand of gold hair behind her ear with her free hand, she continued, "If you go now, you can live a quiet life in hiding. I won't tell anyone you were ever here. You can pretend you don't know anything. Learn any more and someone will have to kill you, no questions asked. We can't let ourselves be anything more than rumors...just dust in the wind."
She took another step back, still pointing her dagger at him.

"I have information that no other knows." I was the king's apprentice and commander of his guard. Until he changed, 100 years ago he was a good man but power has corrupted him and now i offer the rebellion my aide. I can get you into his fortress without a fight." Dante frowned.
"After 200 years of life I feel like i should do something to fix all the wrongs i have done. Now whether you u choose to believe me or not is your choice, but I will not harm you."
I walk this world for 100 years and yet i see a girl who looks to have been through even more then me its a shame He thought sadly

ZERIX Shapeshifter
* * * * * * Zerix straightened. She lowered her dagger and walked back up to him until they were chest to chest. With a blank face she looked up at him, saying nothing. Her eyes held not a hint of emotion.
Then she lifted her dagger. And pressed it against his throat.
It the fading light, she saw the tip break the skin and dark crimson bead in the opening. "I could kill you right here, right now" She hissed, "And not have an ounce of regret. What makes you so special? What separates you from the rest of them?"

"Different?" He asked. "I am just a man who wants to do the right thing." Just a small show even though i hate using it. It is the only way I can prove what I am to her and not hurt her.
He thought as he placed a finger on the end of her dagger and watched as the blade heated to a bright red forcing to drop the blade.
"If i had wanted to i could have just killed you. But i do not want to hurt anyone who is helping the rebellion because that would make it more difficult for me. I have been searching for the rebellion for almost 100 years."

ZERIX Shapeshifter
* * * * * * She let go of the dagger, her grey eyes flashing. "If you think that's the only weapon I have, then you are sorely mistaken" She growled.
But she backed away.
"Fine." She snapped. "Come with me. This doesn't mean I trust you. Nor does this mean that we are friends. You put one toe out of line, you die. Got that?"
Zerix bent down, picked up the dagger off the grass, and slipped in back into the concealed wrist sheath. Turning her back on the man, she faced the forest and yowled like a feral cat.
Suddenly, four shadowy figures appeared along the tree line. She motioned them forward. One of them was a blue skinned, red eyed pixie, two were white haired, cat eyed elves and one was a basilisk, his scaley skin a stone grey.
They formed a guard around Zerix and the insistent mage. "First, walk." She said, point towards the dark, foreboding forest. The guard moved with the ease of long practice. And Zerix was obviously the leader.
"Second, Name." Her voice was uninterested. She still thought he was lying.

* * * * * * "Zerix." She plastered another highly false, sickly sweet smile on her face, batting her eyelashes. "And that, Dante, is all you need to know about me" She said in a sugary tone. One of the elves snorted. The pixie giggled.
Zerix led them through the woods, winding her way around trees, over logs, and under branches whenever she felt like it. The forest slowly grew darker, everything taking on the same shade of blackish-blue. Finally she stopped. The other elf's face was twitching, as if he were hiding a grin.
Saying nothing, Zerix stepped between the roots of a giant tree and disappeared.
