All my friends are leaving to start college this month.
Like, literally.
ALL of them.
Not only does that depress me to no end, but it also brought upon a scary thought...
I'm the only one who has decided "******** school for a while".
I'm going to a cosmetology school ( hair & nails, etc) this fall but I can't help but feel like that's not good enough.
My grandma even took back her offer to pretty much pay for my college fees because I'm not going into the medical field like she thought I was.
Everyone seems to be like "...Oh...Cool" whenever I tell them my plans regarding school.
I just...don't want to go to college not having a basic idea of what I want to be.
You know?
To me it seems like that would be a waste of time and money.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with going straight to college. Hell, a girl in my freshman orientation group ended up dropping out of college and then going to cosmetology school. xd
It's definitely better to have an idea of what you want to do BEFORE going than end up going to college, switching your major 3 times, and spending 6 years getting an undergraduate degree.
But even after you get a degree, it's still okay to change your mind. That's what grad school is for.
Really, at least you're doing SOMETHING, right?

I actually attend college and I still get "oh...cool" reactions when I try to explain what im studying
plus I hear from my dad all the time how I'm "wasting my time" studying what im studying, and every day I hear about how I should "put down the keyboard and pick up a football" because apparently being a big person and NOT playing football makes you a worthless person...

I failed college for two years running before I decided "Hey, I'm doing something wrong"
And found the right field to go into - Or so I think.
Anyway
What I'm saying is, do what you feel is right and don't feel that the advice and expectations of others should path your destiny.

@ iDi- I feel like once I have a general idea, I'll start up college. But ughhhh. The whole "generals" thing irritates me. I don't want to spend time and money studying in classes that may not pertain to my chosen future career. DX
Yeah. I guess I am glad I'm getting something done.
And at least this knowledge will land me a job easier than most, and I can use it to help pay through college when the time comes. gonk

I'm kind of in the same boat too.
My entire family on my dad's side are all medical peeps. My grandma used to be/is/whatever the Head RN at the major hospital. My dad is the city's main paramedic. And I used to aspire to go into medicine, and now that I'm not, they are all like "You're wasting your intelligence".

Everyone already said what I was going to say, but just an FYI I regret not enrolling into cosmetology school.
I could have learned to do make-up (which I love) and have job options other than clothing and fast food. You made a decision and don't worry, you're smart, I am sure you'll get scholarships and financial aid. 4laugh
idk, college is kinda gay, i am not excited about it really but what I am going to school for is kinda looked down on.
