So, I started a new game recently, and a few strange things happened. My character is currently level 9, trying to play neutral all the way through the game, but when I left the vault I was good. I walked around behind the vault to where that old barn is. (Wanted to grab the hunting rifle and stuff in there to sell) And guess what I find? A full squad of Talon Mercs ambushing me. Like what happens when you're good and you fast travel. RIGHT OUT THE VAULT! I had ploice batons, a baseball bat, and a pistol against two assault rifles and a hunting rifle. I beat them down with my baseball bat. Thank you lots of stimpacks and good melee score. ;D
It didn't end there though. Few levels later when I was working on the Wasteland Survival Guide quest. I head down to Dukov's place for some alcohol looting to sell off. I come across...dun dun dun! An Enclave soldier! Just one of them, that is all. Still, I hadn't even meet a single BoS member yet, and yet Enclave, before they're ever even really introduced as an actual force.
signed so, that's a few strange things that have happened so far, we'll see if there are any other oddities as I play

Never knew that barn was there. Straight out of the Vault I always head for Megaton or the destroyed town next to it, to loot the mailboxes xd .

I know the barn is a random encounter place, but usually Talon merc/Regulator encounters happen after a fast travel, not in the random encounter areas, so I found it strange.
And yes Crimson, the barn back there has a hunting rifle and some misc items you can sell off, which is nice for characters right out of the vault. There's also the highway bridge there with raiders along it, I went there after finishing the talon mercs and beat them all down with my Bat biggrin
signed my character is level 9 and I still have the exact baseball bat I had from the vault XD

Wierd things I did:
I shot the tesla cannon at a death claw (normal diffcutly) and it got everything crippled. Somhow it survived another twen seconds of rapid fawkes fire.
I was a good guy and I went to the merc headquarters and shot the MIRV. After fifteen steps into it I was surrounded by weakended mercs lol XD.
I filled up the bed and breakfast on the way to Arefu with mines and told fawkes to staystil inside it. I shot the mirv at him and went inside. Fawkes was alive through the megaboom...
