When the outbreak went widely known and people began to go crazy, Reno was one of the first places in Nevada to be appropriately quarantined and it's people moved to the correct evacuation centers for examination and transport. Once the military began to abandon the mainland, only a fraction of their forces were able to make it out of Reno before the people and infected attacked and tore the soldiers apart for their orders. Reno is now a wasteland of a city, the Infected roam the streets freely and in cornered off parts of the city, it's people still fight for survival and control.

Running. She had not been sure how long she had done it at this point. Her legs no longer ached after a good run, and they certainly didn't let her down when she sensed and confirmed that her life was in danger. Before, Veronica had more than enough energy. She had time to do anything she wanted, from going to sleeping in, heading to the gym, to going on extensive road trips and cramming for any tests she had to take. But now education did not matter. Neither did her ability to tolerate being in the presence of people for an extended period of time. Survival was the only thing that went through her mind. Her opponents only thought about the little flesh on her bones.

With her backpack weighing her down, she decided it was about time she stopped and found somewhere to stay. It did not matter where; all she needed was shelter. The small town coming ahead seemed just as promising as the rest she had encountered during her long treks through the desert. It was isolated, bound to have a few more of these monsters around. She hurried, sticking to the road that led to the town; her only guide.

Veronica did not once stop. Her walk was steady and consistent, short strides and rather heavy steps because of her bloodied boots. From her appearance, it was quite obvious that she had not had a shower in a while, but it did not bother her. She looked back, over her shoulder. The figures of the undead were still there, and even if she was hallucinating, she figured it was still a better idea to run and find some place to stay.

She wasn't quite inside the town itself when she crept into a building. It was rundown, glass was broken, and the conveyor belts did not work. She tried to flip some switches, but did so in vain. No electricity, but the unmistakeable growl of one of the undead did make it seem as if she was struck by lightning.

She reached down to her holster and pulled out her gun, pointing it at the head of the bloodied man, a factory worker by the look of his clothing. She aimed quickly, but the man failed to go down by the time she pulled the trigger. She pulled on it again, a chill creeping up her spine at the prospect of facing more of these and not having any bullets left.

Veronica did the only thing she could do: Buy time. She climbed over the metal barrier, onto the conveyor belt and began the steep climb upwards, until she had a bird's eye view of the place. There were ten or so, she counted as she dropped the backpack from her shoulders, desperately digging for any ammo she might have, cursing under her short breaths as she did so.

Juniper had been skulking around Reno for a few days, picking up what she could. The zombies were everywhere, which was no comfort, but the few scrapes she had been in, she had also managed to escape. Juniper looked back at the small and dusty town, and began to walk again when she heard the unmistakable sound of gunshots. Instinctively dropping lower to the ground, Juniper turned towards the abandoned factory. It wasn't too far.

Tanned fingers tightened around the neck of her baseball bat, and Juniper ran towards the factory. Reaching the metal wall, she waited just outside the open doors. As she peeked around the door, the pungent stench of rotting flesh assaulted her nose. There was more than one zombie. And that was one too many. There wasn't much she could do with a baseball bat, but if she got high enough, perhaps she could whack some around the head.

Hurriedly, before any of the creatures noticed her, Juniper cast her eyes around and found a rusty metal ladder, that seemed to lead up into the cockpit of one of the machines. Juniper darted inside and grabbed the bottom wrung. The undead were now alerted to her presence, and she didn't have time to hang around. Quickly shoving the bat down her shirt, she climbed to the top of the ladder. "Hey, there IS someone here, right?" Juniper yelled out, while reclaiming her bat form her shirt and staring down at the vile things below her.

Her fingers desperately clutched in her backpack, reaching one of the magazines of bullets she had filled over the last few weeks, but all she found were empty. She looked down at the girl who had just come in and at first she thought that it must have been one of those quick paced zombies. Veronica felt a chill creep up her spine at the thought of dying at the hand, or mouth, of one of those. But thankfully, her vocal chords weren't just for growling gibberish.

"Up here!" she yelled, standing up on the platform she was on, waving her useless gun in the air, but when she noticed the girl's weapon, her heart sank. How were they going to beat these with a bat and a useless handgun? She lowered her arms once she caught her attention and went back to digging into her backpack, throwing out any food that had rotted over the side of the conveyor belt.

A rotting hand swiped at her foot, and Juniper lashed out, kicking it away. The ladder had looked a bit higher up, a moment ago. Turning so she was facing away from the ladder, Juniper held tight with one hand, and used the butt of her baseball bat to keep away the ravenous freaks. I need a better battle plan... "Does any of this machinery work?!" Shouted Juniper.

Juniper spun back around, and climbed up into the cockpit of the machine. It was a miniature crane, by the look of it. Maybe to carry crates or something? But that didn't matter, at the moment. She glanced around, but found nothing but some porno mags and a bunch of levers and switches. Juniper leaned over the edge of the c**k pit, and watched the zombies below. They couldn't climb...Hopefully.

"The don't work," she shouted back as she pulled out the last magazine, her last hope. And it was full, quite full. She pushed it into the gun and once all the adjustments were made, she looked for the girl, noticing the few undead that were dragging themselves to the ladder she clung to. She slid down the conveyor belt she had climbed earlier and stopped at the middle, too high to be reached by any of the undead, and low enough to be able to aim and shoot. It wasn't a perfect shot, but it was enough to let the girl have a chance to climb up and get away. Blood was spilled, and the zombie fell to the ground. It was only a matter of time before it got up and running again.

"Get up!" she yelled before she stood up awkwardly on the belt and looked around her to see if there were any close ones, easy targets.

Juniper cringed as the zombie fell, and quickly crawled up on top of the cockpit. From here she was unreachable, but that didn't help her, much. Looking around frantically, Juniper realized there wasn't much left that she could do. "s**t s**t s**t..." she muttered under her breath, as she watched the other woman on the conveyor belt. Biting her lip, Juniper looked to her left. There was a sort of balcony, going around the factory. A viewing area of some sort.

Juniper swallowed, and tucked her baseball bat into the back of her pants before lunging at the railing. Her fingers scrambled to hold on, and she crawled up onto it. Quickly grabbing her bat, she jogged to the end of the viewing area. There were stairs going down. The zombies could get up, but she could knock them back if she was careful.

After hopefully giving the girl another chance at life as a human, she began shooting the ones that were nearest to her connveyor belt, but not without counting each shot. After four shots and three fallen zombies, she decided she needed those remaining bullets, and decided against firing them into the heads of the undead. She climbed up the conveyor belt once more, without hesitating. She needed some metal, something hard and easy to throw or fling around.

She made it back to the platform she was sitting on earlier and looked in her bag, but nothing. She needed to stock up, she reminded herself, shoving the handgun into the holster on her thigh. The smell, she noted, was only getting worse. Could there be any more of those things entering the industrial facility? Veronica hoped not.

She scanned her surroundings, not looking for any zombies, but for any emergency fire hoses she could use to lead them away, or at least an axe. She had no problem facing them head to head.

Near the offices, she noticed the red box she was looking for: it had an axe and a hose, along with a fire extinguisher that would prove useless. It was her only chance.

Juniper headed halfway down the stairs, and watched as one broke away from the slowly dwindling group and rushed towards her. Taking a deep breath as the thing made its way up the stairs, Juniper brandished her bat menacingly. If only the zombies had enough brains left to be threatened. It would make everything so much easier. All too soon the zombie was too close for comfort, and Juniper swung her bat, a slight smile gracing her lips at the pleasing crack.

The zombie fell back a few steps, but wasn't done for yet. He- it- came back at the woman and Juniper swung again, aiming for the skull. Once again, the zombie didn't fully die, but it did fall. As it hit the ground, Juniper used the rounded end of her bat to repeatedly bash the things skull in. Finally, it stopped moving.

She hurried, making her way through the metal maze of conveyor belts, staying safely away from ground level. the zombies seemed to disregard her as she swiftly moved, up and down, from one platform to the other through the metal and rubber jungle. She took the chance to kick the heads of a few that were closest to the belt before she kept going, until she reached the side of the factory where the box was.

She pulled on the handle and turned it, giving her access to the hose and the axe. It was conventional, nothing too snazzy, but it would definitely work against these monsters. She took note of one that was nearby, creeping out of one of the offices and took immediate action. She pushed it down to the floor with the end of the axe and raised the weapon high above her before letting it fall down on her victim.

Veronica closed her eyes at the sound of the cracking skull.

Juniper quickly scanned what she could see of the factory, and counted about five zombies, give or take. She kicked the dead body away form her, and the corpse rolled down the stairs, stopping at the feet of another zombie. Juniper didn't wait for this one. Darting down the stairs, Juniper swung her bat with all the force she had, resulting in a sickening thud. This zombie went down easy. Stomping it's skull for good measure, Juniper then rushed back up to the halfway point on the stairs.

"Hey, you still alive?" Shouted Juniper over her shoulder. She had lost track of where the other woman had went, too preoccupied with what was on her side of the s**t hole. There wasn't many zombies left, and the two of them could probably make it to the doors and book it, if they hurried.

Oh, there was no doubting the fact she had been alive. After she brought the axe down on the creature's skull, she closed the door into the office. It would ensure that no more would come through there and surprise her, allowing her to feel some relief, but it was only minimal. More began to appear from behind the machinery, growling, moaning, all with the same goal.

Veronicahesitated, looking around her for an exit, or something she could climb on, only to realize that her weapon would be rendered useless, and so would she, if she tried to climb and flee.

But they were too many to deal with at once. Veronica weighed her options and began to sprint towards the distribution section of the factory, where crates were piled one on top of the other, and vehicles were at her disposal. They weren't fast, and they certainly weren't armed, but they could definitely do some damage. She hopped into the skid loader and pushed buttons until the machine came to life. She sighed with relief when the skid loader responded and began to drive it straight towards the undead that had been following behind her.

Juniper bit the inside of her cheek as she ran down the stairs and onto to the bottom floor. From her peripheral vision, she saw the other woman driving some sort of machinery over the zombies. Yuck. A couple of the undead saw Juniper, and began to make their way towards her. Avoiding the creeps the best she could, she dashed across the floor to a large crate, and pulled herself atop it.

Perhaps if the woman got close enough, she could hitch a ride on the fork lift thing and the two of them could make it out of this fray alive. Batting away the zombies hands from the edge of the crate, Juniper yelled over to the other woman,"Got an escape plan? We could use one."

Veronica manuevered the vehicle at the highest speed she could, and while she did so, she pierced as many zombies as she could. It was a tedious process. Those who were fresh weren't easy to pierce, but those whose insides were rotting were easy to capture. However, they did not die. Their hands reached for her face, her hair, the remains of her skimpy clothing. She swung at them with the axe, only capable of knocking out those closest to her. She put the vehicle in reverse and just as those that were once stuck on the iron fell off, other fell victim under the unforgiving, rubber wheels of the machine. She realized she had wasted time as the others rose from the ground.

Where were they coming from? Veronica remembered that there weren't these many when she came around. She tossed the axe in her hand, quickly trying to find a way to solve the zombie issue. She put the vehicle in drive and moved forward, hitting full speed, which wasn't much. She figured it was probably 10 or fifteen miles per hour, but she didn't care as long as it ran and as long as the zombies died. "Make a run for it!" she yelled as blood splattered over her chest after striking one with the axe. Once the coast was clear, she made a run towards the conveyor belts and hopped on, climbing upwards to get her bag and the empty magazines.

Juniper knocked back a zombie that had began to climb the crate, and mumbled to herself,"Why do all plans seem to be along the lines of that? ********." Viciously batting away the creatures, she jumped off the other side of the crate and ran as quickly as she could to the open door. Unfortunately, the clawing hands of undead served as a distraction as well as a problem.

Ducking under rotted arms and shoving off zombies with her bat, Juniper tried to make her way to the door. Suddenly her head jerked back, and her scalp screamed in protest. One of the zombies had caught it's fingers in her long hair. She could feel it's putrid breath on her neck and shoulders, and gagged. Quickly jerking forward, she ignored the pain on her scalp and swung her bat upwards and behind her. A gross crack and squishing noise echoed in her ears as she was free and once again running. The stench followed her, putting tears in her eyes.
