Biography: Why is it that some are born without the ability to bend the elements, yet some can? Blood is the key. It's suppose to be that if you were the child of a bender, you could bend the element the parent(s) could. So, what does that make a child who couldn't do such a thing? Useless? A failure? That's what Zen was seen as, if only because he couldn't use the bending blood in him at the time. But he used that to make himself stronger. His body in tougher than most, and his tracking and combat skills are amazing.
He left his home of Ba Sing Se at the age of ten to learn everything he could, both about the world and himself. He first traveled to Kyoshi Island and trained there, both learning about nature and trained with the Kyoshi Warriors. While he didn't join, he was taught the basics of their style. This helped him realize what was missing: Pride. Once he was proud to be who he was, he could bend Earth. Afterwards, he went to the Si Wong Desert to learn about an Earthbending style he heard about: Sandbending, and through his journeys, he worked on another style: Metalbending. He devoted all of his resources to expanding his bending knowledge, and he came to one simple conclusion: a bender is only limited by their imagination.
Zen is very... spiritual. He believes all life is precious, and all life is connected, from the simple ant to the flying Bison. That is where his own unique spin on bending comes into play: Naturebending: the ability to commune with the plants and forests, though not control them.
Now, he lives as a free spirit still on their pilgrimage, doing whatever he can to help whomever he can. He doesn't fight for one Nation or any Faction. He fights for those that need him, weather it be the Avatar or a simple merchant.
