“I have a new case.”

Those were the first words Soichiro Yagami spoke as he sat at the dinner. His voice was gruff, almost annoyed as we spoke. Only after did he look up to see the reaction of his family. He noticed first the overwhelming curiosity of his son and the passive interest of his wife and daughter.

It was expected. Light always took avid interest in his work, and more often than not a huge help. “You don’t sound so happy about that, Dad,” Light offered. Soichiro have a small frown. “I can already feel this case will be a difficult one.” The explanation was offered very little.

Light could only frown. “We shouldn’t discuss this at the table,” his father spoke again. Light gave a small hum of agreement and started his dinner of rice and beans. A yawn drew from his lips as he finished the meal. “I’m done – do you need any more help, Sayu?” The light-haired boy asked. “No, I’m good!” The younger girl chimed brightly.

Light could only smile at his younger sister. She was always so energetic. “Light, I may need your help with this,” Light listened to his father speak, leaning forward and letting the table support his elbows. He clasped his hands in front of his mouth and stared at his father for a moment. This happened often, because Light looked at details more thoroughly than his father. “Does this have anything to do with the Broadcast that happened today and the recent death of the criminals?” the younger of the two males asked.

Soichiro could only nod and sigh. He knew Light would pick it up quickly. He did not want to get his son involved in this case – it was dangerous, especially because the killer only needed a face and name to kill. “It will be dangerous,” Soichiro warned his son with a frown. “All cases are dangerous Dad. I’ll be careful,” was Light’s only response. His father gave him a grave look.
