"....I slept.." Nate thought as he turned his head to the side. The last thing he remembered was dropping Misora off; everything else was just a bit hazy.

His alarm kept ringing beside his head, the digital digits forming 5:38. He was half-an hour late than his usual waking time. From the time he dropped Misora till now would bring at least a good four to five hours. So he had a little more than three hours to come up with school assignments and exams today. He had to get to the academy, though...Now.

With a groggy groan he lifted himself off the bed and looked around. The lights were off but the sun kept it well lit through the thin fabric of the curtains, revealing a red carpet, clean and smelling excellent. A ceiling lamp with a fan that was always spinning day and night at medium-power. Off to his left (he's at one of the room's corner) was a well-polished drawer with a circular mirror leaning towards the wall behind it, a stand keeping its hold on the bottom curve to keep it from falling. Of course, given the right push it could roll off and fall. Next to it was an open closet with a red basket filled with dirty clothes. He had wanted to get that done during the night but had forgotten..

Outside of his bedroom was first the living room: an estimated twenty feet in length and ten in width. His bathroom was on the first right room when once enters; to the left would be a kitchen with electric stove. The kitchen and bathroom were the only two things were the rug did not reach, revealing the glass oddly designed plastic tiles on the floor.

Still in a daze Nate massaged the bridge of his nose before coming to a stand. He would take a quicker shower, feast on some breakfast - pancakes would be the choice, with eggs sunny-side up. Then he'll gather the papers he had dropped somewhere in the room and proceed to the academy. An hour most..

-----------

With his organizer tucked beneath his arm, his hair combed and his face less sleepy, Nate looked over his apartment one more time to see if he forgot anything. With nothing forgotten he proceeded to Sanctum University.

Nate shifted in his sleep, spilling papers of work off his bed as he continued to stir. The uncomfortable cold that settled in the room made it difficult for him to fall into an actual sleep. His covers were thick and warm but he was getting cold even then, shivering beneath his nest.

Tired eyes opened, and he found himself staring at a distant wall with little life. He sniffled, and groaned. "..I think I'm growing a fever.." He whined, unable to get himself out of bed.

Knock, knock, knock. "SDD."

...Sanctum Designated Defense? Why are they here? He wanted to get up and open the door but sadly he didn't have the strength.

Knock, knock, knock. "If anyone is in the room then I'm here to inform you that the mall, tennis courts, and football field will be closed until further notice. For your safety we ask that you remain indoors due to heavy rain - and that Sanctum University will be closed for the next week to due precautions that are being taken. We do apologize for the inconveince for any childs you may have, and if you are a teacher you will be gett--" The voice stopped, and Nate heard whispers. "Nate Lin!" The man called. "There will be a memo under your door and whenever you have time, read it. Thank you for your time."

With hushed footsteps those in front of his door left, and Nate threw his blankets over him. "..How convenient. I'm guessing their informing both teachers and students/parents..but why the SDD?.." He wanted to get up and see what was going on but he was far too tired and weak to do so. Bed what his best option for the moment.

Papers had been gathered and piled at the desk of his head bed and on his bed. With a long waited sigh he had finally finished going over through all the note the teachers had left him about his students. Some stopped attending because their parents refused to release them into the streets and have them at school. Even though Sanctum was persistent in keeping kids in school they would not defy parents when it came to their children's safety. Even with the SDD out and the strong individuals within the University the parents were not convinced. So he did have many absences and would have to talk to many families..

"Mm..There's been no attendance form Haruki. And I haven't even heard from Fuyuki.." Those two alway had problems with each other, especially with that entity that dwelled within the boy. "I should pay them a visit. Yeah, I'll do that now.." He thought. His papers could wait.

Leaving them discarded as they were in his room he attended to the door only to notice another slip of paper had been thrown in. It must have been when he was catching up with all his work. He picked it up and threw the purple envelope on the bed and proceeded to Hayuki and Fuyuki's room.

He carefully opened his door, even when he knew that no one was inside and had no reason to be silent. But it wasn't for anyone else's sake rather than the demon he assisted to his dorm. Thankfully enough there were few demons on the streets now, it seemed that many of them had now retreated for some reason. It would be dawn soon, and he was starting to worry about the demon's health.

She's gone hot.. He thought, his hand still on her stomach to feel the heat that she was giving away. "Are you..still awake?" He asked, unable to turn the light on with just about her entire weight on him. Thankfully he knew his room enough to be able to guide himself to his room at left side.

Once he entered his room he spun around and rather carelessly tripped on his own heel and dropped her towards the bed, having lost hold of her and causing himself to tumble down on the floor and bash his head at the edge of his drawer. He groaned painfully on the floor, holding on to his head as he felt the heated blood stain his hand. "Darn it! OW!" He growled, slowly sitting himself up and looking at his hand. Of course in the dark he couldn't see anything..

Quickly he stood and looked around where he dropped the demon, waiting for his eyes to adjust after his fall. "H-hey..are you okay?"

((so happy to have you back. that didn't take long))

The trip to where ever felt both horrendously long and surprisingly short. Ski blamed it on her condition. Her focus was going in and out, making everything go from blurry to sharp as ever to blurry again. Not to mention the painful agony of her coughs and her raising fever. All because of a damn spider demon's poison.

Ski tried hard to keep herself up and putting one foot in front of the other; that was where her concentration lay. However over time the half-demon's strength was waning and Ski had to put more and more of her weight on this stranger.

Eventually she realized they were at their destination...or assumed so since the guy was opening a door to what looked like an apartment. If her eyes weren't so unfocused she easily be able to see the place in the dark but she couldn't this time.

At the stranger's question, Ski tried to raise her head but it was futile; she hadn't the strength. "For now..." she mumbled. "...but not for long..."

She didn't know where they were going, but she hoped it would be a bed. Struggling to stay awake for many reasons, Ski was jerked to further awareness by the human's gracelessness. It was obvious he had tripped on something since his movements were uncoordinated. While he partially flung Ski onto the bed, she saw his blurry image go down. Smashing the side of his head on a dresser...and by the sounds of his...well almost cursing, it had to hurt.

And blood...Ski could smell his blood...and for once in a long time, she found the smell nice rather then annoying.

"I'm fine..."
she groaned as she tried to pull the rest of her body onto the bed. "You half flung me on the bed in the last second..." On her stomach, face turned toward him she saw his face come into focus a little. "You're bleeding...you should get that bandaged; head abrasions tend to bleed a lot..." came her raspy heavy breathing voice.

(Yeah, but work and family have been taking my time now. So I might reply slowly.)

"I should be fine.." Nate assured, feeling the bump/cut on his temple. Of all the spots. In truth he felt disorientated but his injury wasn't as serious as her health. He could fight it for a while. "And I'm sorry for flinging you..I uhm..tripped.." He informed.

With sloppy steps he moved to switch the light on, closing his eyes before hand so it wouldn't blind him for that instant. Leaving her to lay on the bed he almost rushed out of his room and into the restroom on the other side, switching the lights on in every room to see. Night vision was not his ability.

He opened the medicine cabinet above the sink, finding out that his kit wasn't there at all. "...Hmrgh..I know I..where was that thing?" He mumbled, closing the mirror cabinet and kneeling to sink level and below to look through the cabinets beneath. "Such a mess.." He muttered, finally reaching his medical kit.

Like he had entered he rushed out, pulling a pot out, filled both the pot and a cup it with water and left to his room again. "I'm going to need you to take that robe off." He told her, standing where he was suddenly and staring at her. "..It'll help me better investigate and treat your injuries. And..here.." He tossed her a capsule, and offered her the cup of water. "this will make you a little drowsy. It's a pill that numbs most of your nerves but it will also leave you feeling high. It's safe though..it won't damage you."

(that's alright, family comes first, i'll just make sure to give you something to reply to)

Liar...she wanted to say, but left it alone. After all it wasn't her place to tell him what to do. He seemed like a rather stubborn human, so it was up to him if he wanted to pass out on the floor somewhere.

At his apology though, she spoke up in her raspy voice."It's fine...better then the floor. I don't expect humans to have much grace," she stated softly as the stranger walked out, turning on every light as he went.

From where she lay Ski could hear him. Rummaging around for something and wondering where it was. She thought it may be the medical kit, because it was what she was brought her for after all. She hated medical attention though, especially when it was given by someone else. Half of her wanted him to not find it so she could just walk out of this place no strings attached...

Then he walked into the room....well rushed and badly as her unfocused eyes could tell; the hit to the head must have done a real number. Nothing was in focus anymore and her breathing was becoming harder...raspier; the fever raising while Ski felt the chills setting in. And taking off her cloak wasn't what she wanted but she consented. So sitting up with struggle, Ski pulled the rest of her cloak off. Once removed, the slashes caused by the sickles of wind could be seen; on her arms, legs, torso...no place untouched for the most part. Al so revealing the lack of clothing she wore. Most of her clothing was pieces of cloth that was attacked and held into place by leather buckles and straps of cloth or leather. Ski had to make her own clothing...and this was what came out of it. And besides, it was a rarity for her to ever take off her overcoat; it hid everything so well after all.

With it removed now, another coughing fit overwhelmed the half-demon and she was left gasping for breath afterword; blood splattered on her hands. Seeing the pills and water, Ski took the cup and took a swallow, catching the capsule at the same time.

"Drowsy...I think I'm already there..." she droned as she opened her hand and gazed at the pill. "Medication...I hate them the most."

But the horned girl threw it back and followed it with the rest of the glass of the water.

"Whether or not it works, I'll be unconscious before it kicks in..."
she murmured, wavering as she sat there; staring up at the human with miz-matched eyes with unfocused eyes.

Once her robe was removed Nate could be seen staring. Not at her athelic frame or in any perverted away but in the color of her eyes, and her splendid demon form. Most, nowadays, hid their true forms in a more human-like way. But this one had horns and all, eyes a deep black where he could almost get lost in them.

His eyes oogled at her body, more intent on the wounds that she had endured back in her previous battle. She was almost smeared in blood but he knew that she has had years with that kind of pain. Maybe that was one of the reasons she didn't hesitate to use it.

He gathered her clothing, keeping his eyes astray from her more revealing apparel. "You meet Dark?" He asked, folding her clothes while staring at them in wonder. They were sure unique ways to wear one..he wondered if she made her own; he sure has never seen a kind like this..not to his knowledge anyways. "He does the same thing and allows his body to recuperate on his own. But maybe he can learn from you - who listens to a stranger and allows them to assist them for their better health.

He turned to her with a gentle smile, noting the dazed look she had. "Whichever works.." he wondered if she could hear him. The pill he had given her was more potent than the rest of them. Seeing not only her power and her appereance he had assumed her to be powerful. Also when he carried her; it was a sense that one adapted to in a city filled with different breeds - almost like reading power levels to a sixth sense.

He stood the kit up at the bed beside, now avoiding eye contact. The usual medical stuff wasn't applied within this kit, but simple yet effective tools: Cotton swabs and rags, bottle ointments and creams, tweezers and scalpels which weren't always used unless something was embedded into the body.

Thanks to Sanctum doctors and healers their first aid was almost top notch. He wouldn't have to stitch her cuts if they weren't too deep. Her burns would take some time to heal but by the time she wakes they might be gone. The ointments would work wonders.

"What brought you to Sanctum..," He paused, then looked up at her, "I don't want to call you demon or miss. My name's Nate Lin; and you are?"

He was staring at her. It was no surprise really; it wasn't an uncomfortable staring or hostile. Just an easy studying gaze from this stranger. Ski couldn't bring herself to care right then, even when she hated staring. He was supposed to be helping take care of her injuries after all...so staring at her injuries to think of the best way to treat them. Ski was sure there was no other reason for the looks...who would be interested in looking at a half-breed anyway?

Hearing his question she raised her head, brow raised in question. "Dark....?" she droned in a confused voice. But he cleared things up by explaining things; Dark was a person. "No I haven't...I've only just got here a day or two ago...I haven't met a lot of people."

Listening to strangers...that just made her sound weak. Ski could take care of herself just fine. Would have lived through this easily enough; she had before. People always told her she was too stubborn to die.

"Keh..." she said dismissing his words as he was getting things sorted.

She wasn't paying much attention, even if she was fully aware she wouldn't be. Trying to keep this all from putting a bruise on her ego. His questions kept coming though, and Ski couldn't fight her mouth from moving to answer. What really brought her back though, was his name. The stranger had a name now...and it fit him well.

"I wondered in...like every other city I've been to..."
she murmured. "Demon...always demon people have called me, when I'm just a half-demon. A half-breed that goes by the name of Ski, just Ski..."

The demon girl blamed her talkativeness on the stupid drugs he had given her.

"No wonder you don't know anyone and keep to yourself. But there's people like that here, too. Believe it or not you're not the only half-breed. Dark is one, too..but he does keep to himself in the mountains.." He paused, "But he's no demon..not really."

He had been hoping that she would have passed out already, but she seemed to be fighting to drowsiness. I guess I should start on her cuts now..I don't want to let anymore time to go.. He twisted open the ointment bottle and dipped his index and middle finger. It released a sour smell that always burned his nostrils; that's why he was breathing through his mouth. It was viscous but it would repair her damaged skin. At least the burns.

Without asking for her permission he gently ran his fingers to apply it on her burns as tenderly as he can, trying to coat them without peeling off the skin. "You're lucky they aren't too bad..but you should becareful not to stretch them to be sure." He paused, and glanced up at her. "Try to ignore the smell..this is a mix of several herbs so it might smell bitter.." He warned, continuing to work on the burns first.

"Sky? You mean like the great blue ocean above us?" He asked, moving to any burns on her neck.

Ski wanted to go 'duh' but kept her sarcasm at bay for now...took too much energy. "If he's a part demon brat then there's no comparison..." she droned in a flat tone, lids falling shut; it was hard to keep them open.

With her eyes closed, she couldn't see Nate Lin move, but she could hear him. Going about taking care of her injuries. When a sour smell filled the air she knew it to be the scent of herbs in whatever he was using. Ski scrunching up her nose in distaste; it left her feeling more light headed and drowsy. Her head slouching forward in a tired jerking motions while Ski tried to stay awake. She trusted him to take care of her wounds...trusted him with that, but she didn't trust him enough to fall unconscious.

Applying the cool ointment to her wounds, she jumped a little startled; settled quickly though. It eased the pains of the burns, and she let out a soft sigh of relief. Hearing Nate speak not to far from her pointed and pierced point ear, she forced open her eyes to glance his way.

"I have enough control not to get myself fried to crisp..."
she mumbled, words slurring slightly. "I've smelled worse things and I know how to take care of myself...I don't need you to tell me what to do..."

Giving a small cough, a trail of of ruby blood fell from the corner of her lips. Cringing, her head fell forward and found itself laying on Nate's shoulder. Ski's brow resting there comfortably. Too tired to move away...to do anything anymore.

"Can I sleep now..." she whispered before answering Nate about her name. "...yes, like that sky...only spelled with an 'i'...don't ask me why...it was my mother's doing..."

And Ski promptly fell unconscious then and there leaning her head against Nate. Fully submitting to her injuries and fever of the poison in her lungs.

She had quite a mouth to her, befitting most independent demons. Lovable creatures..

Her body had burns everywhere: legs, arms, neck. It would take longer than he thought, and he still had to worry about her cuts. That would have to come after. During the time that she looked at him he avoided eye contact, even after she spoke.

Unconsciously one of his hands traced her elongated ear, then her horns before getting back to work to dap some ointment on her cheek. His arms slowly began to wrap around her as her weight began to fall on him, and it became increasingly difficult to tend to a few burns on her stomach.

He shifted his 'embrace' and looked at her as her voice lowered into whispers. It was about that time that her wounds and medicine would want her to rest. It will only help him and allow her body to heal on it's own.

"It's a good name.." He replied as she confirmed the spelling of her name. Nate waited for her breathing to even to their best. It was weak but she was still breathing.

"Ski?" He called, but got no response. She had fallen asleep.

His head throbbed again from the early impact but he withstood it for longer and slowly began to lay her on the bed, one hand on her stomach and the other beside her. Now having her asleep he began to spread the ointment on her legs. He had waited since he didn't want her to think that he was violating her. Though it wasn't his intention her skin was well made..he should feel lucky.

As the minutes turned to a couple of hours he finally finished with most of her injuries. It was true what she said about her being able to control her power. From what he saw the injuries should have been more but they weren't. Maybe it was her demon traits and their regenerative acceleration or she had been careful. Nonetheless he had coated her cuts in a transparent goo. By the morning she should be healed and the goo would be able to be peeled off, and her burns should have disappeared and her cuts as well. If anything only her cuts would scar if deep enough. At least he hoped.

He closed his kit and slowly covered her with the blanket of the bed to keep her warm, staring at her face for a short time. ..I wonder if she'll stay in Sanctum. She might like it here.. He paused and held his head, nausea surprising him then.

Noodle legged he stepped out of his bedroom and into the living room, swaying side to side like a drunkard before flipping over his living room couch and found himself staring at his ceiling. The sun was slowly cracking through his window, but it was too early to wake up; he hadn't even slept. School was bound to be cancelled so he didn't have to worry about that. He would probably visit Mitsuki and Misora tomorrow to see how they were doing.

"..I'm tired.." He breathed. His eyes grew heavy, and sleep was instant.

Drowsy as she was and delirious, Ski didn't pay much attention to the feeling of a finger running along her elongated ear or horn; though that had little feeling in it. The thief was much to tired to get snappy with the man for touching her signature traits like she normally would.

And into sweet delirium Ski fell.

Utterly unconscious and under Nate's care, the young woman was limp. Never realizing what the human was doing to help her, never knowing just how injured he was himself. It would be something she would wake to though. But right then, Ski had her own problems. As the night wore on and in her unconsciousness gave way to nightmares and memories. Due to the fever that her body was using to fight off the poison it was causing her to relive her worst nightmare.

The day her mother died.

Finding the village burning around her while the smell of burning flesh was heavy on the air. Embers flying about mixing with the smoke that burned her nose and eyes. All the while the frantic urgent need to find her mother, only to learn that all Ski's efforts were in vain. Her beautiful mother had long since been dead. The basket of her fruits scattered about at her side while a blossoming of red colored her chest.

The memory rushed to when Ski was on her rampage of finding those that had slain her innocent mother. Group of lowlife shadow demons that found power in terrorizing the weak. Even as Ski cut and slashed with her puny claws, it wasn't enough. Like now, then she had been left a beaten mess but where she had someone to care for her now, Ski didn't then.

When Ski had found the strength to move again, she went back to bury her mother and the rest of the village. Why the others that scorned and hated her for just being what she was, she didn't know. But she did...and now all Ski had of her mother was the silver detailed work of a elfish emblem of a stag hanging about her neck.

In the last remaining wisps of her memory like dream, Ski remembered crying hard and long at her mother's grave; weeping for days till she had no tears to shed.

- - - - -

Fresh and clean cotton...and a masculine scent, that was the first thing that Ski noticed as she roused slowly and easily. Groaning in her soreness, she felt the distinct softness of a mattress beneath her, and the warmth of a blanket over her; soft pillow beneath her head. Things that were luxuries for her. Ski struggled to remembered what happened; her mind distorted and foggy. But gradually she remembered...

Fighting the spider demon...poison, and lots of blood filled coughing...a pair of mis-matched eyes. A man asking her to trust him...what was his name...that simple was elusive...

Then Ski onyx eyes snapped open and she sat up with a jerk, cringing as she held her stomach. The coughs had caused her abs, chest and throat to burn. Stumbling out of the bed with weak legs, Ski made her way through the apartment, using every wall she could. When she made it to the living room, that was where she found him...asleep on the couch.

Remembering the bump to his temple, Ski walked forward and reached out to hold her hand over his lips; he was breathing. The thief was relieved at that. Kneeling, the young woman reached out and gently brushed silvery tresses away to get a good look at the wound to Nate's head.

Nate Lin...that was his name...

His sleep was peaceful, and quick. The time that he slept for was instant and it felt like only minutes had passed. It was dreamless, black and empty but that was enough for him. Without dreams or nightmares he was able to rest - one of the things he had enjoyed.

When he awoke it was to the feel of something cupping at his mouth, and he then inhaled deeply. It lacked the a real feminine smell, but he knew that the hand belonged to the female he had assisted last night. Ski, no last name as far as he knew.

When she strayed his hair from his head he slowly began to open his eyes and found her looking at his head. "..It's fine.." He whispered. Truth be told he should have taken some aspirin or bandaged his head at least. There was a large bump the left side of his forehead, dried blood stained clearly on his hair and dripped down to his chin - all dry though. The platelets themselves did wonders to seal the wound quickly but it left Nate with a horrible migraine.

Without standing he studied her, noting that the goo on her body was already thin and could be removed with a shower or possibly by peeling them off. It would feel like having tape around her body but it was an effective method. Less primitive than healing powers however. "How are you feeling?" He finally asked, slowly rising to his elbows to remove himself from his lazy position. I need aspirin...
