some verses on being poor in God.
EXO 22:25 "If you lend money to one of my people among you who is needy,
do not be like a moneylender; charge him no interest.
26 If you take your neighbor's cloak as a pledge, return it to him by
sunset,
27 because his cloak is the only covering he has for his body. What else
will he sleep in? When he cries out to me, I will hear, for I am
compassionate.
23:3 and do not show favoritism to a poor man in his lawsuit.
6 "Do not deny justice to your poor people in their lawsuits.
11 but during the seventh year let the land lie unplowed and unused. Then
the poor among your people may get food from it, and the wild animals may
eat what they leave. Do the same with your vineyard and your olive grove.
LEV 19:9 "'When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very
edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest.
10 Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that
have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the alien. I am the LORD your God.
15 "'Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or
favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly.
25:25 "'If one of your countrymen becomes poor and sells some of his
property, his nearest relative is to come and redeem what his countryman
has sold.
26 If, however, a man has no one to redeem it for him but he himself
prospers and acquires sufficient means to redeem it,
27 he is to determine the value for the years since he sold it and refund
the balance to the man to whom he sold it; he can then go back to his own
property.
28 But if he does not acquire the means to repay him, what he sold will
remain in the possession of the buyer until the Year of Jubilee. It will be
returned in the Jubilee, and he can then go back to his property.
35 "'If one of your countrymen becomes poor and is unable to support
himself among you, help him as you would an alien or a temporary resident,
so he can continue to live among you.
36 Do not take interest of any kind from him, but fear your God, so that
your countryman may continue to live among you.
37 You must not lend him money at interest or sell him food at a profit.
39 "'If one of your countrymen becomes poor among you and sells himself to
you, do not make him work as a slave.
40 He is to be treated as a hired worker or a temporary resident among
you; he is to work for you until the Year of Jubilee.
41 Then he and his children are to be released, and he will go back to his
own clan and to the property of his forefathers.
42 Because the Israelites are my servants, whom I brought out of Egypt,
they must not be sold as slaves.
43 Do not rule over them ruthlessly, but fear your God.
DEU 14:28 At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that
year's produce and store it in your towns,
29 so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own)
and the aliens, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the LORD your God may bless you
in all the work of your hands.
15:2 This is how it is to be done: Every creditor shall cancel the loan he
has made to his fellow Israelite. He shall not require payment from his
fellow Israelite or brother, because the LORD'S time for canceling debts
has been proclaimed.
