   Aaron awoke to the sound of his alarm going off. He turned over in his twin size bed and slammed his palm on the alarm. He picked up the clock turn it off, and read the time with eyes still full of sleep.
6:00am, it read. He pushed off the ridiculous floral pattern bedding off him, and sat up rubbing his eyes. Some people may manage never to get bed head, Aaron was not one of them. He stretched and heading to the washroom. He changed out his black green pajama pants and hopped into the shower.
When he finished he went over to a chair. He had placed his clothes there neatly the night before.
He got dress, fussing with his tie as he made himself coffee and toast. While he was doing this he took a quick survey at his new already furnished apartment. He had literally moved in last night. The place was small, not that he mind. Furniture was ridiculous, unmatched, and some of it was just old. Not antique or vintage old, dingy. He heard the pop of the toaster finishing and grabbed a paper plate. He pour himself and cup of black coffee and his lightly buttered toast.
He sat down, ate and drank his light breakfast. Aaron never had much of an appetite when he first woke up. The only time time he did in those rare occasions was last year when he could make them for Jessica and Emily. That was last year and he tried not to think of that year. He decided that if he had time he would buy some better furniture, but seeing Emily came first. He wanted to make sure his daughter was becoming accustomed and was comfortable in her in hospital room.
He finished his meal, and reached into his suit jacket on the back of the chair for his smokes. He took one out and placed it in his mouth. He light up the bitter taste filled his mouth and filled him with relief. Yes he knew it would kill him one day and was a nasty habit, but habits are hard to quit. He butted out the cigarette on his paper plate and tossed both the plate and butt in the trash. He finished his coffee and washed the mug.
He brushed his teeth, clipped his badge to his belt, put on his shoulder holster. He opened a safe where he kept his gun and placed in the holster. Even though Emily was not there he still had the habit of locking his gun up for her safety. He put on his black suit jacket and left locking the apartment behind him heading off towards the station.
