Rouge's boots crunched in the snow. She had swooped down not too long ago and already the cold had set in her skin. She held her broom in a gloved hand and breathed the cool air of the Steel Lakes. Set down below the mountains she enjoyed the beautiful glimmering effects of the lakes. Nothing was more perfect then its reflection of the starry sky. Rouge plopped herself down on a log and looked up to the sky. She found she got a better look at the constellations from this area of the kingdom. Witchery was an interesting area of work and Rouge enjoyed it very much, sometimes though she needed a break. She pulled her hat down further so it covered her ears. She could already feel them turning pink from the wind.

Comming down from over some tree's, Carthose laughed. "It may be a bit cold down here, dont you think Rouge?" He asked as he seemed to float down next to her. "It is good to see you once more young witch. Has been a long time since we have spoken." He said politely as he bowed slightly, making a slight chuckle as he did so. He never bowed to anyone except the King and Queen. But this wasn't in submission, it was a joke to him; something that felt strangely relaxing.

Rouge looked up when she heard Carthose laugh at her and scowled angrily. She hated being made fun of. In a show of boldness and strength she let her hat flip back up although it still fell crooked on her head as it always did, the tip bent to the side. She relaxed when he started to talk and she realized he was not being at all teasing. "I've been well. Its been a bit boring as there has not been a battle recently, but hey, I keep busy. Flying around mostly and staying aways from my annoying cousins." Rouge rolled her eyes as she thought about their prissy comments and ditzy attitude. Of course they thought she was the weird one. To each, their own I suppose! Rouge thought to herself.

"Take a seat." She waved a gloved hand to the many logs and rocks that sat upon the ground like perfectly hard sofas.

Carthose nodded as he sat down. "Do not worry about that Rouge. The time comes, and as soon as the king returns, he has plans to march on. Until then, all is quiet here." Looking over the lakes, he tried to remember the last time he was here. "Though it has been long since we have spoken, it has been longer since i have left my study or the castle," He said calmly. Letting the cool air rush over his body, he nodded. "If i am to sit, i dont wish to do it alone," He said, smirking under his mask.

Rouge listened happy to have company. "Well sit then, I don't plan on leaving quite yet." The wind whipped through the trees making whistling music, the still reflection of the lake gently rippling image. "What sort of studying have you been doing all locked up? Its been a while since anyone has seen you around. Then again the king has been gone for quite a while now, once he is back we'll be seeing you plenty." Rouge grinned and held her hat down as another wind sprung up attempting to steal away her witch hat.

"My studies are that simply on that of earlier writings of Arcane Lore i did many centuries ago." Carthose said as he chuckled slightly. "It has been so dull with the Kings absence, but one must find a way to work around it. And even those withing the castle i find it hard to connect with. Including that 'Wetboy' as he is called." Looking at the snow capped moutains far off, the kings guard folded his arms. "There are few i find company with now a days. As the need for magic grows more and more dim, the more others resent me..." He said as he thought.

"Tell me about it..." Rouge sighed as she brought her knees up into her chest, wrapping her arms around them. "Its almost that we, as immortals have lost all power of thought and care for the magick we once possessed. Very few people know how to wield it let alone study it." She shook her head and pushed a long strand of light hair back into the hat, she had always worn her witches hat upon her head proudly. Preferring to be with the dragons and mages then with those of her own flesh and blood. Her family had been slowly pushing out of the magic work and into a more modern lifestyle as lords and ladies of the court. Rouge preferred to work. She smiled at Carthose, enjoying the conversation greatly. It was rare that anyone other then the dragons of the court felt the same about the war.

"Yes, that is true. It has been a long time since we were thought as good. I remember the day the world was supposed to engulf itself, if not for my interference," Carthose remembered. "To me, this has one purpose to me, and that is to show these modern followers that the power possessed in Arcane Lore is strong. I do not mind The One, nor the petty differences of the Fey. My only purpose is to make sure that we remember our roots," Stopping, he looked at Rouge from behind his mask. "Tell me Rogue, what do you truly think about this war?"

Rouge listened thoughtfully, she worked her ideas around her head and answered the question carefully. It was not a question that was offered in good humor or company. War although it ran their lives, the court ladies and lords did not like to think that the culture was a war one... "Its very political. It feels as though it was started long ago with a goal, a purpose. Now its morphed into something that no one so long ago would have suspected. Rather then a need for land and better trade, we are out for blood and revenge against the Fey and the Cats... Even though it was technically the One who began it all..." Rouge paused unsure what she was saying. Her whole life had been about the war, now it felt meaningless. "Not that anyone else knows it was truly an Immortal conspiracy." Rouge laughed, bitterly, sarcasm helped ease battle wounds and thoughts that bordered on traitorous.

"What about you?" Rouge asked, turning to Carthose with a wicked witch smirk.

Carthose looked at Rouge. This was an unexpected twist to this conversation. "The war is pointless. I only do what is needed for the time, then i help the Immortals no longer. Already the Seer knows, but he is bound by secrecy." Standing, he took out the blue leather bound book from the library in the Palace. "When the time comes, i will stand out. The world needs reminding that Magic is a savage and powerful tool. And that is Watcher still lives." Looking at the page with the many arcane runes, Carthose smiled under his mask.

Rouge was annoyed, although the war was pointless she was born into the immortal kingdom. Her father a wizard and her mother a lady of the court, it felt unfair for some reason... "Why are you telling me this?" Rouge stood looking down on Carthose (hardly as he was still tall while sitting). She narrowed her eyes challenging him, "You have a reason for coming to me, I know you do, you always have a reason for whatever you do. What do you want from me?" Rouge keep her chin held high, the witch's hat slipping over her eyes.

Carthose snapped the book closed, and looked at her. "You say that a war based on trade and mindless slaughter is useless. I have a plan, a plan to remind the world that they are not safe. Magic has lost his place, and even you should know that Rouge." Focusing, the image of the Immortal and Wolf armies marching through the centaur lands appeared on the crystallized lake waters. "It is at this time i will split from the main army, using the time to my own accord. TY, the Seer of the Shadow Forests, will act as my insight to the workings of the army. However," Turning away from the image, Carthose stood up and looked south. "This is a dangerous task, for if Feirost catches me, then my soul is forfeit. So that brings me to why you are important." Turning to the young witch, he walked past her, his cloak rubbing against her arm. "You know more in the ways of Magic than most these days. I need someone like you to aid me. My reasoning for comming to you first is that you are the outcast in the way from your family. They usually dont care what you do," Starting to leviatate, he looked down at her and nodded. "I will reside within the Palace's library the next two days. If you wish to take me upon this offer, then i will be there," With that, he was gone.

Rouge stayed where she was for a time, snow falling on her and draping her like a white blanket. With a soft sigh she finally rose after hours of stillness, like a ghost waking from a dream. She dusted herself off from the freezing cold and held out her hand for her broom that quickly zoomed into her grip. She felt the cold wood come alive beneath her grip, as was the relationship between a witch and her magic. As she got ready to launch she took one look behind her to see Shydon's bulky black form sitting across from the lake. She could feel his smirk like a caress. Go child. He urged her on in her thoughts. With a final kick she made her way back to the palace.
