A Vampire's Childe

Chapter 1

A ray of moonlight illuminated the dark room, and the single form within. Crimson irises shimmered brightly as the figure stared out over the deserted courtyard with excitement. His fangs glinted eerily as a slow smirk spread across his features. He could smell everything that was to come. The metallic aroma of freshly spilled blood, the crimson pools at his feet, the screams of agony as his nails ripped through skin and bone, the begging of his prey, even the salty tang as the blood drained down his throat. A humorless laugh exited his lips, which soon turned into insane cackling.

"What fun is there to come? I can feel it, flowing through my veins!" He shouted over his mad laughter, the lights of insanity breaking through his normally calm composure. After a few moments his laughter came to a sudden halt, replaced by a concentrated look of confusion.

His red trench coat dangled from his shoulders as he turned towards the door, blank expression now in the place of confusion when he heard his childe call out to him.

"Master? What is wrong?" The voice of his fledgling came from the other side of the door. She sounded somewhat drowsy. The door creaked open, and a young blond woman walked into the room. She was wearing a tan Hellsing uniform with black combat boots. She yawned.

"Police Girl, can't you smell it?" A twisted grin contorted his features, sending a shiver down the woman's spine.

She stopped in her pursuit to stand next to him, and frowned. "Smell what, Master?"

He turned back to the window, staring up at the moon. "Why Seras, the bittersweet scent of battle." He chuckled darkly, and held out his hand. "Come here, look."

She moved cautiously towards him, not liking the energy he was giving off. Seras only hoped that he would calm down before something bad happened to himself, or the unlucky people who happened to be within a mile radius of him.

Once she was standing in front of the window she looked up at the sky. The moon was shining brightly, and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. The stars twinkled and glittered happily as she rested her hand on the window, wishing she could go out onto the estate grounds, yet knowing it was not a good idea. It was just too calm, and if her Master's behavior was scary enough, she knew something would be happening soon.

They both stood there in silence, watching the sky as it slowly changed to day, and the sun's rosy fingers touched the brightening heavens. Soon after, they silently bid each other a good morning, and went to their coffins to rest for the new day.

As the lid on Seras's coffin closed her in with her own thoughts, she sighed, fearing the threat that was soon to come, yet shivering in the excitement of what was to end it. She drifted into her dreams, and slowly an innocent smile formed on her lips.

Sir Integral Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing sat at her desk, scowling at the pile of papers that materialized out of nowhere during the night. There were a variety of letters in the pile, and the first one she picked up had the familiar seal of the Vatican, Section XIII Iscariot.

'What the Hell could he want?' She thought to herself as she opened the letter to see Enrico Maxwell's handwriting covering the paper. She glared at the page of script with pure unrequited hatred in hopes that it would vanish from her hands. She grit her teeth when nothing happened, and with much agony on her part, read the letter.

Miss Integra Hellsing,

Much to my complete disapproval, we will be sending you a young child for the time being. She will be a girl of about five years, with straight, shoulder length brown hair, and hazel green eyes. Her name is unknown at the moment, since she refuses to talk to anyone. She will be accompanied on the trip by Father Alexander Anderson. I have ordered him to not fight with your vampire, and do as he is told while he is there. Feel free to send him back here if he drives you insane. I need him more than you do.

Sincerely,

Enrico Maxwell.

Integra read the letter over nearly ten times with utter surprise. This wasn't even on the list of things she was expecting from that b*****d. She groaned and read the letter again, hoping she misread it the first time.

She ignored the door when it opened, and Walter walked into the room.

"Sir Integra, your tea is ready. Would you like some now?" Walter asked as he placed the tray down on a free spot on the the desk. He watched her as she read the letter, unveiled amazement on her features which instantly turned to disgust, and then irritation.

She read the letter over once more before handing it to Walter and telling him to read it out loud, not wanting to read it again herself. He did as he was told, and frowned as he said Maxwell's name.

"What is this about?" He finally asked. Walter knew Maxwell wasn't the friendliest person, but this even surprised him. It must be degrading for Maxwell to ask this favor.

Integra grimaced. "I have no idea." She reached into her desk and pulled out a cigar and a box of matches. "Do you suppose it's a trap?" She asked as she struck the match, and brought it up to her mouth to light the cigar.

"I wouldn't trust him, but we can only wait to find out." Walter said. "Should I have some new weapons made for Alucard and Seras?"

Sighing, Integra nodded and returned returned to her paperwork, not in the least bit comforted by the news. Walter quickly moved around the room, picking up items to be thrown away before he finally exited the room to leave Integra to her own devices.

It's great! A few minor mistakes, but other than that I actually read the entire thing! (Yes, that's a compliment; I rarely read the entire thing on Gaias stories.)
