I am not sure if I used the correct choice of words in the title...
But anyway..In college, I was told that if you stimulate your brain continuously throughout your life, you may slow down the development of Dimensia and Alzheimer's disease. I can't remember if my professors said it completely prevents it, but it sure helps slow it down. If anyone has known someone who suffered the listed syndromes, then they know how hard it hits and how quickly it deteriorates the well being of the effected person.
It's so sad. My grandmother had it and my great aunt has it now. I dread the day my parents start showing signs. I don't know if I can bare it.
So I heard of some ways you can "stimulate" the brain.
-Crossword Puzzles -Word Searches -Brain Teasers -Learning a Foreign Language
What do you guys think? Do you know of any other brain exercise that you want to share? Do you do such things daily? What's your opinion on the subject?

You can beat it! Would math count? Or playing memory games? Mazes?

I don't think you can out right stop it completely no ifs ands or butts, however your right in that you can slow it down a lot. And such things are good to do aside from the desire to slow down things too, keeping your brain active and engaged is just the best thing to do period.
As for me I never liked crossword puzzles, but word searches and brain teasers are awesome. They have magazines at the store that are just full of fun puzzles to do when you get bored and I keep them everywhere around the house whee and that is usually a daily occurrence hehe
I am also trying to learn German at the moment since I am like 75% German or something like that. Other things? Well I spend most of my time writing so all the planning and calculating and all that definitely keeps the brain working hard biggrin

Memory games are very good. I think anything that requires you to solve some kind of problem whether it be math or language would be good. Just keep hanging out in the games forum Dolls and you will be fine. =D
My step dad's father is developing dementia, I feel so sorry for him because suddenly everyone is walking on egg shells around him but nothing much has changed with him yet. My mum works in aged care in the dementia facility so she see's it on a daily basis almost.

Believe it or not, I heard coffee is supposed to help protect against Alzheimer's. So a big mug in the morning and a crossword puzzle should help.
