After being nominated for the Gold Ball award and playing an overall spectacular World Cup, Özil is quite obviously being chased by many top teams in Europe – Real Madrid, Arsenal, and Manchester City are just some of the undoubtedly many offers that have come his way. However, Özil broke all their hearts by saying he'd like to finish his contract with Bremen, on which he has one year left. But this doesn't mean he's not going anywhere.
I think this article describes it best.
Werder Bremen could consider Mesut Ozil sale _Werder Bremen general manager Klaus Allofs has _hinted the club may consider selling Mesut Ozil this _summer if they cannot convince the playmaker to _sign a new contract.
_Mesut Ozil helped Germany to a third-place finish _this summer. Ozil, 21, was nominated for the Golden _Ball award after enjoying a tremendous World Cup _campaign for Germany in which he scored against _Ghana and acted as the creative pivot for Joachim _Löw's side.
_His displays in South Africa have naturally led to _speculation that some of Europe's top clubs are _hoping to lure Ozil away from Bremen and the _Bundesliga side are not in a strong bargaining _position as the player only has one year remaining _on his contract.
_Allofs previously said he would rather see Ozil's _contract expire in 12 months than lose the player _now, but with the midfielder potentially ]commanding _a fee in the region of €25 million, that stance may be _reconsidered.
_"We would like to extend Mesut medium or even long _term," Allofs told Bild. "But if this is not possible and _it results in another situation, we have to deal with _it."
_Ozil started his career at Schalke but joined Bremen _in January 2008. He said on July 12 he plans to see _out his contract with his current club this season. Opinions? I personally think it'd be smartest to extend the contract with Bremen, get even better, and THEN go play outside of Germany – before his contract runs out, of course. He's incredible, yes, but I dn want it going to his head.

the problem about 'gaining experience' outside of Germany is that you're not guaranteed to gain playing experience – you might only gain benchwarming experience. If he does leave Bremen, I'd say go to a smaller EPL or La Liga team – like Man City. they're not a giant, and hey, he'd be with Jerome! I think Barca offered him a smart deal – Barca would buy him, but loan him to Bremen until he's good enough to be in the starting line up. Good for Özil, because it guarantees he has more waiting for him and gives him something to strive for, and good for Barca, because who knows how much he'll be worth in a couple of years. razz
If he wants to stay at Bremen, though, he's best of extending his contract.

UPDATE: Werder Bremen Ready for Ozil Offers
Werder Bremen are ready to listen to offers for their German international playmaker, Mesut Ozil, the club's sporting director Klaus Allofs admitted on Sunday. The German first division side had been hoping to extend the 21-year-old's contract but with negotiations having hit a wall, they are now bracing themselves for his exit.
"I can imagine that in the coming weeks or just before the transfer window closes, one club or another will begin to press us a little harder," said Aloffs, according to sports agency SID, an affiliate of AFP. "We will have to listen to those offers if that is what Mesut and his advisors want.
"As for our discussions (with Ozil), we have not been able to reach an agreement."
Ozil was one of the stars of the recent World Cup in South Africa when he was at the heart of the German team which came third. Various clubs have been linked with him this summer, notably, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United and Arsenal.

OH'LORD, way to get my hopes up for that happening. I do not think it would anyways since Ferguson stated that he won't be looking into buying anymore players, and that he is satisfied with the team he has now. gonk Oh well... But I think, the only plausible decision that would be good for Oezil is to go with Barca's offer (despite my dislike for the club) or as you said, extend his contract with Bremen so that he can stay with Marin a bit longer and then play for clubs outside of Germany.
