There were times where I wished I could just die back then. All the tests, the pain from that h*ll called the School. The same people that mixed my DNA with that of a bird. I am only ninety eight percent human, the other two percent is avian. I think I was born there, since that place is where my early memories were. Back then I couldn't fly with my midnight black wings, but now I can.

I'm nineteen now, to them Beta 001, but my name is Kit. Named myself after leaving the School with my best friend Jax. Watching the birds from the bared windows taught us the movements to flying. When given the chance we left as fast as we could, Erasers at our tails.

I hate the rain, it's cold and soaks me through my hoodie through the flight to find a place for the night. We escaped years ago, five I think since I was only fourteen when we left, just like Jax. Now isn't the time to talk about that past. Right now I think the present is more interesting than he story of my being in a dog crate for most of my childhood, the rest was spent running away.

I guess we are over DC, since I saw the White House a short while ago, but we are heading north to a national park. The trees give a fairly safe shelter and hide the two of us fairly well. Fun fact, we don't fall off the branches.

"I'll take first watch" Jax offered, his normally reddish brown wings looking dark in the little light.

"Alright, wake me up when you get tired" I replied, placing my back to the trunk of the tree and allowing my wings to act as a blanket of sorts. Drifting off I soon fell asleep, the rain just a general annoying thing. Easy to ignore.
