The Intro

For as long as the living have breathed, the world has been savage.

There are vast deserts where nothing grows, mountains where fierce predators lurk in wait to eat you if the sheer drops don't ... icy wastes and violent oceans; the world breaks down anything too soft to survive.

But still, the determined survive. Scattered across the land human cities stand like worn fortresses, protecting the weak people from the true hostility of the elements. But these places are not havens. The greedy and cunning rule, more often than not, and only those who can lend a working hand or strong back are permitted to stay.

The rest are given to the wild, locked out of the city with little more than whatever they can carry of their possessions. Though ... those banished are not always old, sick, or weak. Sometimes, they were simply too troublesome for the government to keep.

Whatever the reason, the only hope for such an outcast is to survive long enough to reach another city ... another chance at life.

Because the world is savage. And humans aren't the only things that rule the land anymore.

When men live as beasts, beasts also walk as men ...

The Rules

1. This is a literate RP. I'll expect two paragraphs as a minimum unless we've come to a place where there isn't a lot to say (yes, that happens. Writers block does too) or we want the plot to move quickly.

2. No disappearing acts. If you join post at least once every few days. If something does come up, please contact me; real life happens.

3. No Godmodding. There are two rulers here, not a single entity (which means that you also have freedom; if you get a good idea for a place/person/character/plot, either do it or run it by me if your iffy on it).

4. This is intended to be yaoi/romance/action-adventure-ish. No instant-love, but instant-respect/awe that will lead to love is fine.

5. Put a ninja in the private message with the chara profile to show you read the rules.

6. Posts aren't required to be 'pretty.'

7. Have fun~

Don't go around tonight,
Well, its bound to take your life,
There's a bad moon on the rise.

What's Needed in the Woods

The most well known race of the world are humans. But there are many, many other creatures and predators than have evolved to survive the harsh wilderness. As to what type of beasts those are ... the races are only limited by imagination. Though quite a few of them can assume human form (by magic or some weird twist of science) to either lure in unwary prey or to simply have a civil conversation in an otherwise uncivilized environment.

I'm hoping for two characters, one human and one 'beast'.

I'm willing to play what's left over, the first choice is up to whoever sends in a profile.

PM me with the character profile filled out, and I will accept the first one that interests me. Remember, make a character that you will enjoy playing; we want the 'story' to last more than the first few pages~

Don't go around tonight,
Well, its bound to take your life,
There's a bad moon on the rise.

User Image

I've survived for this long: 18

I have a few stories: I was born in the wilderness of course. Not much there. I came screaming into this world in a cave and my mother raised me for a few weeks before leaving me to fend for my self. I learned to live or die. So I lived, hunting prey that I could catch. Rats and mice are delicious when you are hungry. Cooking? What's that? I eat it raw. Am I a little snappy? Why yes. I am a wolf I don't normally talk pleasantly with possible prey.

My love life?: Uke

Well, if you ask any more questions ...: proud, stubborn, free spirited, loyal. My trust is hard to earn.

Name: Xeron

But you can call me: Xero

Race: Human

But I look like: User Image

I've survived for this long: 19 (and a half)

I have a few stories: Xeron was borne into what can only be accurately called slavery. He (and the rest of the children born to the lower class of his city) were raised to served the upper class by doing every job the nobles did not. Like venturing outside the city for lumber or other necessities, or guarding the city walls, and building/repairing buildings. Everything. Xeron quickly became what the nobles hated most, someone who looked out for others. A great shooter and one of the only ones not scared of the 'outside.' Someone who asked questions. Someone who had to be thrown out.

My love life?: Seme

Well, if you ask any more questions ...: Xeron is often quiet, thoughtful. He does not ask for things to be done by others, he does them. Often a bit too trusting for his own good.

Xeron

Xeron stared at the armed men before him, a look of slight dumbfoundedness on his face. Their daggers, spears, and small gun barrels glinted with an odd malice in the light of the sunset leaking though the slots in the great wall that surrounded the city, making a chill go down the teen's spine.

There was only one reason for such a show of arms in the living quarter of the city, but Xero didn't believe it. Not at first. Not until one of the guards read off his 'crimes' in a loud enough voice for every neighbor the teen had to hear: "Xeron, citizen number 9234, you are hereby banished from the city because of crimes held against the high nobles. These crimes are as follows: hording, causing unrest, stealing rations--"

The list went on, and on, until the teen almost thought it would never stop.

He was allowed to enter the small hut he used as a home and gather whatever he could stuff into his pockets and backpack, but that was all. Xeron wasn't allowed to try to say goodbye to anyone, not even his workmates who were the closest thing to family that he had.

He was marched to the one and only exit, several tired people looking on with interest as he was led away, whispering following the small parade like fickle smoke.

Before he could even realize the truth of the situation he was outside ... alone ... the sun lowering in the western horizon and the forest glaring at him from everywhere he could see.

Xero blinked, slowly adjusting the straps of the backpack, and making sure the single gun at his hip was nestled correctly in its holster.

I'm ... banished. It was almost a question. His feet began walking east, to where the closest neighboring city was said to be, even before the reality of the situation hit him.

He was alone, outside of the city, and nightfall was coming. A chill autumn wind blew, threatening the human with the nearness of winter, and taunting him with the unlikeliness of his own survival.

He tightened his grip on his gun a moment, before moving forward with a bit more caution. Keeping to cover, moving as quickly as he could without making too much noise.

He felt odd. Scared, sure, uncertain but also ... oddly free.

He'd been out hunting in the woods before (during the day) to catch a few rabbits or what he could, and it did not look alien to him like it would've to others who spent their whole lives within the city's walls.

But ... he was still a 'tourist.' And a very tasty morsel, if he was stupid enough to make a mistake.

Zeck

Zeck woke with a soft whine as the sun went down. He was in his beast form, it was safest. Though most creatures were active at night there were a few who stalked pray during the day. Still he slept during the day and hunted at night. More compitition, but better rest.

He rose to his feet and stretched then padded on all fours to the vegitation covered entrance. The plants provided good cover, they made it harder to be found. He moved quietly. When he reached the entrance he stuck his muzzle out and took a few deep breaths. Growling softly in satisfaction he left the relative safety of his den for the forest.

Time to hunt. He raised his nose to the air and took a few sniffs. Small animals like mice and the occational rat were easily scented. Some rabbits as well. He set off to the east at a brisk trot, stopping every few minutes to scent for danger or prey. It was on one of these stops that he scented something strange. Well not that, just unusual from the normal night smells. It took him a moment to place it. Human. It was a human. He gave a wolfish grin. They were the easiest prey there was to catch.

Looking forward to an easy meal, the scrawny wolf moved quicker through the underbrush. The scent of the fresh meat of the human causing him to salivate a little. He licked his chops and picked up his pace. He had to reach the little piece of meat first, before something bigger came along.

Though he was a predator he could easily turn prey to another creature. His small size and the fact he was alone didn't help matters. Dragons, bastilks, cockrtaices, and many more creatures were bigger than him. Even other wolves.

He paused in his loping a few minutes later and scented the air again. It was close. Zeck slunk along, expecting to see his prey soon. He had had human meat before. It had been a very small one and hadn't lasted very long. It wasn't even very filling, more like a snack, but it had been food.

He stopped when he found a track and gave it a few sniffs. He was starting to get excited. The tracks were fresh!! He followed them, sharp eyes looking for his quarry.

Xeron

Xero paused, back against a tree as he listened to the shiver-inducing sounds of the night and took what stock he could of his surroundings.

With the setting of the sun, his ability to see had slowly diminished until even things up close to him were hard to see. He had decided to find a tree to spend the night in, seeing as walking around the forest in the dark wouldn't be a particularly smart thing to do, but it was growing very obvious that not many trees were easily climbable.

The human sighed to himself, carefully making sure his hat was secure on his head before turning to inspect the tree he had just come too more closely. No; no branches were low enough for him to climb up onto. With a slow, hopefully unheard by anything else, sigh, Xeron inched his way to another tree, still traveling eastward.

If I can't find shelter, I'm as good as dinner to whatever is lurking around out here. Xero thought grimly, inspecting another tree in the darkness that was only broken by the thin strands of starlight dripping though the thick upper foliage.

Frowning to himself at a branch that looked only a hairbreadth out of his reach, Xero backed up a bit, carefully aiming himself.

If I can just jump high enough ...

And he ran, leaping, trying to catch the branch with the tips of his fingers. By some boone he did, legs swinging as he held on with his hands, hanging comically for a moment like a wiggling worm on a hook before heaving his entire body up with a grunt, sitting on the branch and catching his breath.

Well I'll be ... I made it.

Making sure his backpack was still secure and his gun was in its holster, the teen began to look for an upward climb up the tree, not trusting a spot still so close to the ground.

Zeck

Zeck followed the tracks and scent to several trees. Finally he found the end of the trail and low and behold it led to another tree. Zeck circled it, looking for the human, but couldn't see him. It was obviously smart enough to climb high. He considered climbing after his prey, but the only problem was he didn't like heights. NOT at All.

Never the less, the human up the tree was still an easier meal than some animal on the ground. He stood on his hind feet before jumping onto a low hanging branch. He dug his claws into the bark of the branch and didn't look down. Slowly he climbed higher.

Don't look down. Don't look down. Don't look down!

Soon he saw the boy and hopped up onto the branch he was on. He snarled and licked his lips. His eyes shone with a almost human intelegince and hunger. Slowly he advanced on his prey........until one of his feet slipped and he looked down as he pulled it back up.

His ears pressed flat against his skull and he whined. Human prey forgotten he pressed himself close to the branch and closed his eyes tightly. Bad idea!!!!

He shifted to his human form and got a better grip on the branch. His tail was tucked between his legs and his ears were still flattened. The only difference was he looked like a human boy. He trembled as he peeked over the side quick before closing his eyes again.

N-now what?!!

Xeron
Xero had spent quite a bit of time carefully making his way up the rough, dry bark, glad that the clothing he was wearing was still close enough to 'new' to not tear at the rough usage as he wiggled his way up. Though, the thin clothing probably wouldn't be much help against the chill night air or the cooling autumn weather that was quickly turning to winter. It was only the constant movement that kept him nice and warm now.

Though, getting to a height that wasn't close to the top of the tree but still far enough away from the ground to be impossible for a creature to jump up (unless it had wings) Xeron pressed his back, pack and all, against the trunk of the old plant, sighing. The human didn't think that he would be able to get much sleep that night; the height didn't bother him, but the soft sounds of things hunting in the dark did.

Uneasily trying to see thought dark, Xero was about to pull out his gun when something large, fury, and snarling seemed to pull itself up, making the human jump farther away from the beast and also further out on the branch, where things were less stable.

He whipped out the gun as fast as he could, preparing to fire a few rounds into the obviously hungry maw, the glowing eyes unnerving the teen in their ... sentience, making him hesitate a second.

Before either party could kill or be killed, the black wolf suddenly seemed to look down, the sight turning what had been viscous a moment before into ... well, Xero would've laughed at the sight had he felt any humor at his situation.

To see a wolf grab onto a tree branch for dear life ... the sight didn't make Xero lower his weapon, but his mouth twitched upward a bit.

And then the wolf turned into what Xeron could only think of the most frightened child/puppy he had ever seen in his life. After a moment, the teen slowly lowered his gun, but did not put it away.

He'd heard the stories of course; that some of the beasts could change their forms to trick people into unwariness.

But ... he's way to scared for this to be a trick. And as far as dogs are concerned, the ears and tail never lie.

First, Xero hopped over the cowering wolf boy so that he was closer to the tree trunk again, and on more stable ground, before turning, asking aloud in a whisper: "Oi; kid. Do you want help, or are you more likely to bite my arm off?"

The human couldn't help it. Attempt at eating or not, he couldn't just leave another sentient being to spend its time trembling in such obvious fear.

Zeck

Zeck could see the gun, but he didn't know what is was or that it was dangerous. He probably would have been shot and killed if he hadn't had a glimpse of how high up he was. He had his eyes firmly closed as the human watched him and changed position. However having someone behind him made him anxious and he growled slightly. He strained his ears, trying to keep track of the human.

At the word 'kid' Zeck sat straight up, fur bristling and whirled around. "Hey! I am not a kid! I'm-Wahhhh!" he started to say hotly except that his sudden motion had made the part of the branch he was on sway. He went to his frightened state again and pressed himself even closer to the branch. He was shirtless so the rough bark scratched his belly. The only clothes he was wearing was and old pair of jeans. The cool air didn't bother him though. He was rather hot blooded so he was warm enough. Not even his bare feet were cold.

He looked at the boy, caution in his eyes. Clearly he didn't trust the human. His head tilted slightly as he thought about the propestion the boy was offering. Let's see. Do I want to hang out up here for who know how long until a dragon or something comes and eats me or do I want to trust this snack to help me get down? His eyes took on a calculating look as he weighed his options. His survival instinct kicked in though and with that his choice was clear. He had a better chance at living if he got out of the tree and the human was going to help. Survival meant...trusting the human.

"I want help. I won't eat you, if that's what your asking. I've kinda lost my appeitite," he said softly. His voice was gruff, showing he didn't normally use it. He couldn't believe he was getting help from food. He was glad he wasn't in a pack. One they would have left him. Two they would have mocked him. Three they would have taken the boy and his last hope of getting down in one piece with his heart still beating.

"P-Please hurry. I-I don't like it up here," he said, a whine creeping into his tone. Don't look down!!!

Xeron

Xeron blinked at the cut-off exclamation, waiting for the answer. It was a bit odd that the creature ... kid ... whatever was wearing just an old pair of jeans. It was cold to humans on a night like this. The suspicious look was something Xero was slightly used to; noblemen and guards had always made it known what they didn't like, and the teen had never tried to keep them happy. The cause of his current mess.

The human was a bit thoughtful at the wolf's claim to have 'lost his appetite' ... but sighed at the young male's stuttering.

"Give me a moment," Xero murmured, putting away his gun so he could use both of his hands, "now don't move around too much please."

Without any other warning, the teen grabbed the wolf by the rim of his jeans around the hips (the shoulders were too far away and it was easier to pull the canine youth without fear of his grasp slipping) and pulled him towards the trunk of the tree, where the branch was wider and more stable.

Hopefully, it would be easy to guide the wolf down one branch at a time, and get the predator down on the ground and maybe hunting something besides him.

Zeck

Zeck was very wary of the human, but nodded to show he understood. He screwed his eyes tightly closed and waited for the boy to be ready to help him. What he wasn't expecting after the warning not to move too much was to be yanked by his jeans toward the boy. He yelped and clung to him once he was on the more stable part of the branch, toes gripping the bark for dear life.

"That was scary!!" he said in a loud whisper, voice rasping. He nuzzled the warm chest in front of him for secruity while his tail tucked itself more firmly between his legs.

He wasn't looking forward to the rest of the trip down. He realized now he should have just waited for his prey to come down and gotten something small to eat while he waited. Sure it might have taken a while, but then he would be on the ground instead of in a tree terrified out of his mind! He whined. Maybe he was just a puppy.

Xeron

Xeron froze when the wolf grabbed him, almost expecting to have his throat torn out, but slowly unstiffened when the only thing the smaller male did was cuddle against him. He patted the furry head as he looked at the nearest lower branch, trying to imagine that he was helping one of the kids in his neighborhood down instead of what had been a very large, snarling black wolf not five minutes before.

"Just ... keep holding onto me." Xero eventually decided on saying, as the weight between his backpack and the creature clinging onto his front was actually pretty evenly divided. "I'm going to climb down."

The human was glad for the starlight that was there; if the night had been cloudy, he probably wouldn't have been able to see his hand in front of his face. But even with the light, that much was a bit hard.

And going down with almost twice as much weight strapped/quivering on him was harder than the teen had anticipated, and the bark bit into his hands more cruelly, but Xero somehow managed to get back down to the lowest branch again after a lot of jumping, hanging, and easing himself down from his previous spot.

"Well, here we are." the human stated, not planning on making the last jump down, because he wasn't quite sure if he could find the energy and luck to jump back up again. It wasn't that bad a height; surly it was close enough to the ground for the wolf to get himself down.

Though ... the puppy/person was warm ... very warm. It had been nice to have a personal heater attached to him, even if the beast had tried to eat him. The pleasant heat against his chest almost made the extra climb down worth it, even if his palms had been scrapped up badly enough to ooze out a little bit of blood.

Zeck

Zeck didn't need any coaxing to hang onto Xeron. He only nodded and tightened his grip. It wasn't fun on the way down, but he had to admit he was getting a bit of grudging respect for the human. When they finally reached the lowest branch he reluctantly let go and looked down. He could jump from this height and he was gearing himself to when a familiar, lusious scent wafted past his nose. His head snapped up as he looked toward the boy, eyes zeroing in on his injured hands.

Slowly he moved toward him and took one of the boy's hands, turning it palm up so he could inspect the wounds before lowering his head and licking the wounds clean. His tongue was rough like a cat's and easily removed bits of bark that were stuck in the wound. He did that to both hands. When he was done the wounds were clotting. He sat down and considered the boy with a tilted head and keen eyes.

"You.......you have a name correct? I might not eat ya if you tell me," he said. His ears were swiveling, picking up sounds that only the ears of a beast were sensitive enough to hear. Intelligent beasts like him had two names. A given name and a true name. If ever beasts tell their names, it is always their given name. Though if you have their true name you will have enormus power over them. He had to find a way to thank the human, he didn't like owing others.
