Does anyone here like historical dramas? (Books, Movies, TV)

It is such a hard genre to find things for. I was super excited when The Tudors came out a couple years ago. Absolutely loved it and I am sad that's it's over with now. It wasn't the most accurate story telling of King Henry VIII's reign- but it was so great anyway. Bloody, sexy, good looking actors/actresses (With a couple exceptions), great wardrobe (Although also a little inaccurate), and other stuff- like the way they spoke.

I am mainly focusing on TV at the moment. Does anyone here know of any shows I may be interested in? I was considering watching the recent Robin Hood that BBC was playing. I've also wanted to watch Centennial- an older TV series based off of a book by James Michener.

I know history isn't a popular genre, haha..but I wish I had more shows to entertain me.

------
I've read a couple of books like Chesapeake (Michener), Katherine (Seton), Avalon (Seton), A Reliable Wife (Goolrick), and started reading Carribbean by James Michener. I love historical drama- AND especially if there is some romance. <3

------
For movies, i've watched and liked
The Duchess
Marie Antoinette
Gladiator
The Mummy
Troy
The Crucible
Girl with a Pearl Earring (read the book as well)
The Last of the Mohicans (also read)
Dangerous Liaisons
Kingdom of Heaven

...**more to come, probably**

The movies I watched and thought were okay are:
-The Brothers Grimm
-Casanova
-The Libertine
-Goya's Ghosts
-Sherlocke Holmes
-There Will be Blood

I've been wanting to watch The Patriot, Master and Commander, and Braveheart. Just don't want to watch them alone. xD

I find the genre to be entertaining. I really enjoyed all three of those movies, The Patriot, Master and Commander (Watched it Yesterday for the umpteenth time), and Braveheart. There was a series called Rome that came on, I never watched it, but my father did and he enjoyed it. Mad Men on AMC is pretty accurate, its about the 1960s style of life.

I thought Rome looked interesting. I must look into it.
As for Mad Men, I've actually never heard of it. I am assuming there are aspects of hippies, drugs, feminists, and music! whee And possibly Vietnam War?

I've seen the beginning of Master and Commander when I was younger, I didn't get passed the part when the boy had to lose his arm. I really want to watch the entire thing.

Its a good movie. Mad Men actually focus more on the average Business executive and their family's life. Not exactly what your thinking of, but more interesting than it sounds.

Oh Oh! Watch the movie Young Victoria. It is about Queen Victoria and is just brilliant. I loved it. It is based on diaries of hers that were found by Fergie.

Also have you seen the BBC production of Pride and Prejudice? I love that too. I still haven't finished the book though...

I did see The Other Boleyn Girl. I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. Mostly because I had just watched the Tudors season with Anne Boleyn's short reign- so my brain couldn't help but compare. I think Portman and Johansen look stunning and I loved the costumes. I am sure i'll watch it again.

@Des- Fergie? As in Black Eyed Peas? Lol. I remember seeing an ad for that movie. I would love to watch it. I think I have to wait until it's available, though. And Pride and Prejudice- I remember seeing bits and pieces. It caught my interest. I must find it.

Lol. No Duchess Fergie someone or other.
It should be out... I watched it a couple of months ago. It was so lovely.
