Well I've been gone for 3-ish weeks, 2 of which were laced without internet access. So because of said unfortunate turn of events, I haven't been active at all in the guild lately. Which is frustrating.
To (hopefully) amend for this absence, I'm going to give out 10,000 gold~* All you have to do is post your favorite Disney movie and explain why it has earned such honorable status. All submissions will be entered into random.org and one lucky user will recieve the prize.
Anyone can enter, and feel free to stick around and chat if you feel the need.
Thank you oh so much ^.^

If I had just one... Song of the South has the distinct pleasure of being the film everyone had either seen clips from, heard music from or else the rare few - been able to say it hasn't impacted their Disney life at all. Which, ignoring all the implications of a history many would soon forget, is still a truly amazing film. The characters - animated or otherwise fill the screen as only many years later - that Roger Rabbit could hint upon. But even a Academy-Award winning actress couldn't keep Song of the South in DVD format in the United States; so it is up to those who HAVE seen this pearl in Disney's crown to never forget it. And pearls - like anyone who feels and knows the appreciation of something valuable - know that they are created out of covering up something uncomfortable that ultimately creates an object of beauty. Thank you Hattie. And thank you Disney. Neither of you are around but your legacy will live on.

Mulan. Out of all the movies to date, this had to be the best one in my mind that really taught children to be themselves. While of course if anything like that had actually happened in china, we know very well that our lovely Mulan would've either been killed in the mountains, not spared by her general, or punished when she returned home (go Disney for making it fit that even though she was a girl, it was okay, cause she kicked some serious butt and saved the emperor.)
It shows children that being yourself isn't always easy to manage, especially with so many peers around you telling you "This is how you're suppose to act!", and that it's not always that easy to have the life you want, even when you make the choices you're happy with. That hard times will come, and when you truly need your friends, they'll be there for you (like when the guys dress in drag to help her save the emperor, even though everyone thought they were nuts for listening to a girl at all). That true love, will still be there, even after you discover secrets they've kept from you.
I also loved the whole 'never give up' lesson that was taught while she was training, and because she wanted to do well so badly, she managed to be as good as the others by refusing to quit.
Also...come on...Mushu is the shiznit...anyone who doesn't burst out laughing at "You lied to me?! And what are you a sheep?!" or of course "If I was my real size your poor cow here would die of fright. *snap* Down Bessie!", has no sense of humor. XD

Snow white. Okay the girl's voice makes me crack up laughing, but it was Disney's first ever movie. It teaches girls that no matter what someday your Prince will come. It also teaches to wash your hands before a meal or your brothers/sisters will dump you into the sink. Who can forget a lesson like that?
It also showed people (dwarves) with many different personalities can live together in harmony. That means no cliques in highschool! (I wish)
And Evil never prospers. Remember that if you poison your step-daughter with an apple after telling a hunter to cut out her heart, you will be struck by lightning and fall down a cliff. 3nodding

Pinocchio. The artists really knew what they were doing with this movie. As a child this movie terrified me, the fat gypsy man put poor little pinocchio in a cage, and oh dear goodness, the donkey scene. Re-watching this when I became older, you really do pick out the tiny details that just make this movie a masterpiece.
I'm a sucker for detail and art, and I just adore it when I see effort put into something, I fall in love when I see people put more than just the required effort in. In Gepetto's workshop, there are small carvings in everything, from the cabinets, to the fireplace, the shelves, the chairs, everything was created to make this the perfect wood carver's shop.
The characters are just...well, fun, they're not necessarily deep, complex, have some sort of dark past or problem that they need to settle in order to become dynamic. They're simple characters put into complex situations often times, and this allows for humor or drama, or both. I'm always laughing at the antics that ensue from Honest John interacting with Pinocchio, and just pinocchio's reactions to things in general, simple, but sincere, a true child you could say.
Anyways, I could rant all day long about this movie, but this movie stands out to me, just because of the art, the love that was put into this movie, the second full length feature animated disney movie that set up Disney's catch phrase 'when you wish upon a star, your dreams will come true'

My favorite is obvious, but the reasons aren't as honorable as many people's may be.
My favorite Disney movie is The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride. I usually don't like to refer to it by its full name because its not about Simba's pride. Its about his daughter mostly.
Plot: Its a simple story, Romeo and Juliet, good vs. evil, love conquers all. nothing original. What makes it great is the way characters interact and the combination of old favorites and new.
Characters: Simba is the biggest flaw in this movie, he is the reason many people don't like it, because he just isnt nearly as likeable as he was in his first movie. But thats not important. Kiara is the typical headstrong female charater that is always included in sequels (Jessie, Melody, Madeline . . . the list goes on). She is good and nice and innocent. Of course the most important character is the (hottest animated lion) amazing Kovu. Think about some of the great works out there. I'll pick two to prove my point. Lets go with Avatar (the last airbender not the crap blue people ugg) and Harry Potter. What do these have in common? Reformed bad guys thats what. there are more than one in each but im talking about Draco and Zuko. They seemed destined to be evil, the chosen ones for the dark side, but did they overcome that? Yes they did. and so did Kovu. Admit it, reformed bad guys are hot.
So yes thats my explanation. I could go on for alot longer about it, i really have alot more to say. But im getting distracted. My point is that despite simbas fruitiness, and the fact that Sarabi conveniently disappeared, and timon and pumbaa are STILL obnoxious. This movie is awesome.

There are many Disney movies I love, but I would have to say that Hercules is my absolute favorite.
First of all, I saw this movie in theatres a bunch of times when I was little, because my mom liked it so much and it was showing at the local theatre for just a dollar per ticket.
Anyway, there was this night when me and my sister decided to stay up all night and watch old VHSs in her bedroom about two years ago. We watched James and the Giant Peach, and then we watched Hercules. Basically, it was the first time I'd watched really any Disney movie in years, and I really enjoyed it. And so I started watching the other Disney movies, and eventually, two years later, I was a certified Disney addict.
So Hercules is my favorite Disney movie, mostly because it's the one that started my love for Disney.

~Advice from a Caterpillar~ Alice in Wonderland I have many reasons for loving this film; more so than the reason you probably only think I love it for. It is an underated movie; it didn't get much attention when first released in 1951 and only became of more interest to people in the 60's and onwards (for obvious reasons). However; it was ahead of its time in many ways and the animation was superb and still holds ground today as some of the Disney company's best animation.
But that's all technical reasons; let me explain to you why I adore this movie. It is different. Its not like all the other movies, with their morals and so on and so forth; it is whimsical and nonsensical. It doesn't need meaning. Why bring the order of our world to a world that has a different set of rules? You can gain an understanding of Wonderland if you know how. It is so very different from anything else; that's what sets it apart.
Of course I must mention the original books; because Disney's version combines both Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. Lewis Carroll was a genius; you'll realize this if you read these books; he brought so much fantasy and wonder to this world; and Disney's film is my favourite adaptation of the stories.
All the characters are memorable; and the soundtrack to the film is great too, although much content was cut for the final release... a lot of it can still be found on the DVDs however.
Though I will have to mention my favourite character... the Caterpillar. I don't think any other character is quite like him; he's so very strange, enigmatic and eccentric. The entire conversation between him and Alice is just brilliant (Disney did well adapting it; even if they did swap a few things around); its probably the best scene in the entire movie... if you can't remember it; look it up on youtube, you'll know what I mean.
Yep, Alice in Wonderland is my favourite Disney film; its nice to escape from normality sometimes.

Wow I really love reading everyone's entries! Some movies never even struck me as likeable, and now I see a whole new perspective!
@Kim- I'm really glad that it's a random choice. Otherwise, the decision would be too difficult to choose! But I really may have to consider more than one winner as the response has been so great...
I also realize that I forgot to set a daedline sweatdrop Since I have band camp this week (in other words, I'll have no life for the time being) I think it would be good to set the end for next weekend. I should be free then. Sound good to everyone?

My favorite: Beauty and the Beast
Well besides the heroine being brown haired and green-eyed for once, Belle actually has a strong desire for her own future that she has determined to make for herself. But that doesn't make her conniving or scheming, she still knows what's right and knows how to put herself aside (sacrificing herself for her father).
Belle, in my opinion of course, is one of the only princesses that isn't waiting for a prince to come and save her. She also is wavering or insecure. She knows who she is and doesn't worry what the consequences of being who is is may be. Though a few times she gets insecure ("papa, am I odd?"), she asks the person that really matters, her family.
This movie I think has some of the most important lessons for everyone to learn in it, from random kindness (the hag in disguise), to loyalty (Belle with her father and the Beast), to self-sacrifice (Belle for her father, Beast for Belle), to the consequences of vanity and selfishness (Gaston and the Beast to some extent) and of course one of the most important lessons- that love is about bringing out the best in yourself and your partner.
But what's really amazing to me in the movie is that the characters are real. They don't hide who they are or sweep it under the rug.
Needless to say, I'm completely in love with this move. I love all the characters and still tear up a bit at the end, Belle cries "It really is you!"
