Hey guys, I'm just gonna throw out an idea that I got and see if people like it to find out if it would be worth putting down on forum paper in more detail.
The year is 2187 F.T.A.(Free Terran Age), one-hundred sixty-eight years after the resources war officially ended. One-hundred sixty-eight years since the earth's surface was laid to waste over a couple hundred tonnes of oil and gas. One-hundred years since humanity emerged from the underground caves and safe-houses that had been their salvation to rebuild what little was left. Countless amounts of knowledge were lost in the war and to time, entire technological theories and methods disappeared utterly. Religion was all but wiped from the earth with only the ruins of a few ancient bastions left.
The earth had surprisingly adapted quickly in the aftermath of the fallout, new life had appeared that held resemblance to old and, in some cases, ancient life forms. New forms of sentience had appeared and established tribes and even a few small settlements of their own. Humans returned to the surface and beheld the world in the glory of it's rebirth. They decided to rename the planet Terra to commemorate the death of the old world and the birth and existence of the new world.
Immediately after surfacing, humans divided into groups of the good and the evil. The evil humans established themselves into gangs of thieves, killers and rapists. These groups eventually became known as marauder gangs and became notorious for causing chaos and unrest all across the face of Terra. The good became everyone else from settlers to farmers, mercenaries to Lawbringers, scientists to doctors, merchants to soldiers and so forth. The humans of Terra built themselves a couple handfuls of towns, livestock ranches and even a couple cities. Terra became sparsely populated and a number of historians now compare it to the Earth's wild west. Many speculate that this is for the better and many others speculate that the wild west was when the earth had been first set on it's path to destruction.
Technology is now almost entirely run by Krogfire. To elaborate I must first introduce the Krogen. The Krogen (K-raw-g-en) are a species of large reptiles resembling a bloated iguana that weighs two-hundred pounds in adulthood and whose scales are almost impervious to physical harm yet the beasts seem to be extremely sensitive to sharp points. They are very easy to domesticate, even easier to breed and amazingly easy to care for as they eat dirt and excrete a powerful fertilizer. They burn perfectly clean as a fuel source. In fact, a single average three year old Krogen can burn long and strong enough to run an ironclad train (the heaviest, most fuel-guzzling and most reliable land-crawler in existence on Terra) for an entire week.
To now elaborate, the energy given off by burning Krogen has become known as Krogfire and it continues to be the greatest source of fuel, heat and induced light on all of Terra. Thus, Krogen have become the most useful livestock creatures in the entirety of Terra.
That's all I have so far, I still need to come up with a basic goal for the potential RP but there's the back-story. Lemme know what you guys think.

Hello,
I believe there is a lot of ways you could take this. Here are just a couple ideas:
Human extinction: Now that the world is reborn, it is time for a new species to take over and thrive. The humans time is up. (because humans cling so desperately to life this could be really interesting)
(If you are into it) Aliens: with this surprisingly amazing new from of energy they begin to attract the attention of other planets--- I guess this might lead to another war.
Local war: The Krogen are tired of being used? I don't know what kind of animal they are, or how intelligent they are, but it could be a possibility...
Anyway, just some ideas.

Thor is a little dazed and tired still. I didn't have a huge part in developing this, however I did offer my ideas to its creation. I shall try to answer to the best of my ability.
The Human race was on the brink of extinction. Knowing this, major companies and people started investing on survival. They built complete underground societies to live in, but I would imagine that they didn't have infinite supplies. Underground greenhouses will only last as long as you got the energy to shine on them and the water to well, water them. This is the point where I propose they would have left, desperate for the supplies needed to sustain life. With news of the nuclear holocaust over, they would have left out onto the land to make the best of what was left. The Humans are still alive, although their population must have been decimated about four times over. Although small in number, they strives to recreate their old lives. They resorted to old technologies and whatever could be salvaged from the nuclear wasteland. Life would have been reduced to a standard not seen since the 1800's. Towns were built out of metal scraps and salvage. People were paid to scavenge the wastes and trades like this became a way of life.
The fallout would have had a huge impact on the world, with both its appearance and its wildlife. Simple creatures would have been twisted right down to their DNA because of the radiation sweeping the lands. The Krogen were a result of such a aftermath. As Thor was saying, the Krogen are now cattle. Bloated, cow-like lizards. Its blood is basically gasoline, and even the bodies burn easily and cleanly, yet slowly. If you need an idea on their behavior, I say they are slow in the head, but imagine cows. You can herd them easy, they don't have much of a mind of their own, and doesn't seem to care about humans as long as it is fed. Heck, they will even let you push them over.
Well, at least this is the direction I thought we were going in.

I see, so it is more about how the humans rebuild and adapt (or not) to their new environment?
I think there is definitely enough there, especially if you are planning on making it into a roleplay. It might be interesting to give everyone such freedom... As long as everyone clearly understands Terra's context.

hey, I kinda wanted to jump back in with an update on ideas.
I've come up with three different scenarios so far.
Lawbringers, Outlaws and Settlers
Lawbringers: A particularly large and dangerous gang of marauders calling themselves 'The Dust Wolves' have been terrorizing the settlements of Terra for the last two decades. They've become something of a legend among the outlaws. Every cutthroat from coast to coast has done business with them at one point or another. As Lawbringers, it is our sworn duty to bring justice to those beyond the reach of the lawmen. "We are order in chaos. We walk the path of the righteous. We are the law." (A group of Lawbringers start in their HQ and set out to hunt down The Dust Wolves. Playable characters; Lawbringers, Dust Wolves. Story driven.)
Outlaws: You and your friends have struggled to raise a ranch or open a shop, you have grown tired of being short on luck and money. There's a fortune to be had out there in the wilderness of Terra and its about damn time that you had your slice of the pie. In fact, ******** the slice. You deserve that whole pie and you're gonna take it. So you round up your best friends, rob a bank and then skip town leaving nothing but wanted posters, empty pockets and dead would-be heroes in your wake. (A gang of people start in the aftermath of the bank robbery escaping the town. Your objective, get as rich as possible and then disappear with your riches. Playable characters; Outlaws, a couple bounty hunters and maybe two or three Lawbringers.)
Settlers: (Prelude campaign. See Broken's post for more details.)
Feel free to contribute ideas.

You need irradiated mutants. Every good post-apoc. story has Mutants.

...Uh...yeah. The entirety of earth was given a hundred-year bath of heavy fallout so all life forms on the surface have mutated in some way. (That's an invitation to dump ideas by the way. I may be the lord of all things awesome but I can only come up with so much on my own, you know?)

Posting additional information about Terra.
Other sentient creatures known to the human population:
The Froskt. A race of tribal mountain dwellers evolved from rock beetles that stand at six to seven feet high and are covered in an exoskeleton as well as a great carapace on their back that sprouts a very pure ore that varies in metal from tribe to tribe (each tribe is descended from a different genetic strain). They are equipped with four arms and two legs. With the exception of the uppermost pair of arms, each limb is equipped with it's own respective set of claws suitable for climbing and digging through rock whereas the uppermost arms are equipped with gauntlet-like hands each with three fingers and the equivalent of a thumb. Their heritage language consists entirely of clicks and screeches, but they retain the ability to mimic human words by pushing air through their mandibles as they make the syllables of human speak. They are omnivorous scavengers who can stomach almost any irradiated substance without fear of mutation or radiation sickness. Their carapace, apart from literally growing metal, is able to shirk off almost all physical forces it comes into contact with making it a valuable shield if available.
Froskt have often been known to gift the carapaces of their fallen warriors to outsiders who have assisted them in their various endeavors, the most frequent of which is to safeguard a group of pilgrims from one religious site to another or to trade sculptures or carvings for the old shells. The Lawbringers have outlawed ownership of these unless gifted due to the many mercenary groups who once hunted and massacred Froskt exclusively for their carapaces.
Proof of gifting is required to be available or the Lawbringers have the authority and duty to both confiscate the item and to sentence the individual in question based on however much information the Lawbringer may have access to at that time. Proof of gifting takes the form of a single tribal Froskt symbol carved into the shell, an act of carving that only the Froskt themselves are able to perform as it involves a tribal shaman 'chewing' the symbol into the shell with his own mandibles. Carapaces exist with ornate designs covering the entirety of it but these are exclusively gifted to heroes of the Froskt. The ownership of such a shield brings with it a level of authority and reverence that has been known on two occasions to halt full scale wars between tribes.
Froskt society is based purely on tribal values that revolve around their mountains which they hold as sacred grounds. In turn, they hold sculpting as a sacred art and will often buy stone sculptures from other tribes and from human travelers and settlements with whatever they can. Tribal shamans and elders will often make pilgrimages to other tribal sites to marvel at the carvings and sculptures of their ancestors.
Metal is often their chief export as they grow it off of their carapace and it is considered an unclean habit to leave one's carapace ridden of metals but paradoxically admirable to adorn oneself with trinkets and tools made from metals. (May update later, may leave as is.)

The Gom'gek. A race of multi-terrain humanoids evolved from humans that have been exposed to extreme amounts of radioactive mutagen. Their culture and appearance vary from area to area but they all share a deep hatred for humans. They all share certain physical similarities such as thick skeletons, big powerful arms and broad chins filled with sharp teeth. The language of the Gom'gek sounds similar to human speak but is much more guttural and simplistic. The average lifespan of Gom'gek is twenty to twenty-five years as their chosen living areas are usually incredibly volatile and filled with dangerous wildlife. Gom'gek have sickly-green skin and incredible muscle mass. They are shorter than the average human male at 4.5 ft. average, but weigh an average of 400 lbs. They are incredibly brutal and warlike, often decorating themselves and their crude settlements with the bones of slain humans and other sentient creatures. They enjoy hunting humans and even consuming humans who they see as the ultimate enemy of their people.
