I've been around Gaia a while and I've seen more good roleplays die then I'd like to think about. People can't dedicate all their time to roleplaying, can't spend all their time online, so it's harder than ever to get a good story going. So this is what I propose: a story, not a roleplay, in which we all take part. There will be no post order, no owning of characters, just a plot and imagination.
The way it works:
I will post what can be considered the first chapter or pages of a book, introduce the world how I see it and how the character(s) I've created interact with it. Then it's someone elses turn to take over the story. The world and characters are now theirs to do as they see fit. They can add characters, kill characters, make them walk on their hands in their underwear... Once they've added their chapter, it's someone elses turn and so on, and so on.
There will be a holding period. If you want to write the next chapter, post your holding and your name ie [Holding for Scytheress] and then edit the post. I know my posts can span several hours and it would be terrible for someone to be taking their time to create a chapter only to have someone else post their version a little faster. After placing your holding post, you have one week [7 days] to post. If you haven't posted by the end of your holding period, your post will be deleted and the next person can claim the chapter.
To try and alleviate confusion within the story, there will be an OOC forum for the story-tellers to discuss plots, character relationships, and laws of the world. Such as if one person posts that their is no magic in the world, someone else can't come up and cast fireball unless they have a good explanation or there had been a dimensional shift... if someone said no but you really want to blow something up find a logical and plot progressing way around it. Talk about what would be best for all muses.
Also to keep things organized, there will be a character collection below. Any main and side characters will be noted here. If you created the character, you'll need to write up a brief description/bio. There will be examples below, but think of the character list in the script of a play.
Creator's Note [7/14/10] : I likely won't have the first chapter up for a few days. Tomorrow is my boyfriend's birthday and then we're going out of town for the weekend. On top of that I'm getting my first puppy on Sunday smile

Cast
Ellion Heckler - a Shadow that was trapped during the Ice Age. He fell in love with a Water elemental but she was destroyed when the Thaw came. He seeks revenge for her departure.
Aicer Glaive - a Iceling that was born as a result of the Ice Age. She fell in love with Ellion but when the Thaw began her essence was returned to the Creator.

Plots
There can be multiple plots. If you don't like the characters being used so far, make your own and create a side/new plot within the world.Plot 1 Ellion, having lost his mate to the Thaw, seeks the Water Elder to demand her return.

Chapter 1 The world had ended with the great Element War. As Earth changed, as humans polluted the air, and the waters rose, as fires dimmed, and the shadows deepened, destruction loomed. Air and Earth, the benevolent givers of life, were weakening. Their essences were being pulled apart and desecrated so their numbers dwindled. See, each elemental creature is born of its namesake but all the same, if the element is destroyed or corrupted they die and humans were causing the later at a rapid rate.
The Elders convened; Earth, Fire, Water, Air, and Darkness. They had to find a way to stop the destruction of the world but each of their views differed greatly. Fire wanted to simply scorch the world and kill the humans. Air and Water wanted to educate the humans in the ways of living as one with the world. Earth wanted to shake the ground and return the human creations back to rubble where it could be consumed once again by nature. Darkness just sat back. He'd learned long ago that his opinion didn't matter. He was supposed to represent evil so any idea he had must be wrong. It didn't help that Light had fled to the skies in the dawning of mankind. Those self-righteous bastards thought they were the chosen of the Creator and wanted to be as close to him as they could.
The end of the meeting came amid a flurry of curses and threats. Each returned to their tribes to further their own ideals and the dissent began. Air spread it's people out to teach, volcanoes erupted violently, and earthquakes rattled the world. Water retreated. They pulled their people north to watch the unfolding chaos. Darkness did the same, they began to recede back into the cracks they spawned from. Meanwhile, the humans ran in terror. The world around them was revolting and despite how Air begged and pleaded them to stay calm, humans took their weapons to each other in holy wars, blaming the heathens and heretics for calling down the wrath of God.
Perhaps if Darkness had spoken up things may have gone differently. His only thought had been, "Maybe the time of the great elements is over. The age of man began eons ago and we cling to the hope that we will reign supreme. They surpassed us. Lets just go." It was too late now. In a last effort, Darkness approached Water with a plea to make it stop. When asked how, Darkness simply replied, "Freeze it all."
Solemnly, Water agreed and called upon all his people to make snow and ice fall from the sky. The oceans rushed onto land and hardened and hail plugged the volcanoes. Yes, people and elementals alike were dying but they were also surviving. Humans began to adapt and their attackers retreated.
The world stayed frozen for 100 years before Water felt it was safe to start the thaw. The snowstorms continued to rage but the oceans began to withdraw. Small steps at a time. In some areas light began to show through the turbulent clouds and melt the ice but not at a noticeable rate. You'd think everyone would be happy at the beginning of the end of the new Ice Age, but not Ellion.
Ellion Heckler was a member of Darkness, a simple shadow. It's unfair to try and classify him in a gender since Elementals don't have genders, simply a form and if they so choose they give themselves human anatomy. Ellion tends to keep the form of a man, but even then it's hard to determine. He is however one of the few shadows that didn't get trapped under the ice when the Water lords froze the world but has been contained nonetheless. He holed himself up in wooden lodge deep in some forest to wait out the 'apocalypse' but he didn't realize he'd get stuck as the windows and doors were piled over with snow.
Now stuck and alone, Ellion resigned himself to wait out the century of boredom playing little shadow games on the walls. However, he received a visitor. She dropped through the roof in a whirlwind of snow and ice with an audible yelp. Ellion, startled by the sudden intrusion hid beneath a table. As the flurries settled, a young woman stood up dressed in blue with hair as white as the snow she fell on. Her cheeks were pale but her eyes were piercing cerulean. Ellion slowly crawled out from his hiding place. "H-hello?"
The woman whirled around to look at the shadow and gave a soft smile. She quickly apologized for dropping in as she did. The fact of the matter was, she'd just been born of the snow storm that was raining down on his ramshackle housing and her corporeal weight must have made the section of roof collapse. Ellion didn't quite give a damn about the roof, he couldn't feel cold anyway, but was more concerned with the resonating thumping he felt within himself. He knew elementals formed bonds but he'd never experienced one himself. But this girl... she was gorgeous! He found himself at a loss for words but grabbed the back of a chair and held it out for her to have a seat.
The next few days passed in relative silence. The girl, Aicer Glaive, would ask questions every now and then but Ellion couldn't quite find his voice to speak.
Eventually, Ellion had the confidence to strike up a conversation of his own and the thumping in his chest quickened to a dull thrum. To his pleasure, it seemed Aicer felt the same way. Now at least his century of solitude was being spent in the beautiful company of a young woman. But, his happiness wasn't going to last.
After the thaw began, the snow and ice began to melt which meant the abundance of Water elementals were returning to the Creator. This included Aicer. When the first drop of water began to seep through the hole in the roof they both knew what was coming. For many nights they cried, others they tried to laugh but ended up sitting in silence. Then one morning, upon waking, Aicer was simply gone. Ellion searched the shack, hoping that she'd only gotten up to grab something or went up on the roof but she was nowhere to be found. He knelt down at the growing puddle on the floor and stared at himself. Just as he was about to give into his sadness he caught a glimpse of his long black hair. A lock of his bangs, tucked behind his ear had turned a vibrant blue; a memento of his departed love.
While the streak soothed what could be considered his heart, his fury began to grow. If the Water Elder hadn't decided to start the thaw, Aicer wouldn't have died, wouldn't have been turned back into pure energy to be reabsorbed by the cosmos. Ellion stood and resolved to find the Water Elder and make him give Aicer back.
