150g (6oz) self-raising flour
1/2 teaspoon of salt
75g (3oz) butter or margarine
75g (3oz) cheese, finely grated
1 egg and 1 tablespoon of milk, beaten together
A star-shaped cookie cutter-(If you do not have one, use any shape, but I like stars, they're more Christmassy!)
A baking sheet, wiped with cooking oil
Heat your oven to 200 C, 400 F, gas mark 6, before you start
(Please tell me if you know how to do the degrees symbol on the keyboard!)
1) Sift the flour and salt into a bowl through a sieve. Add butter or margarine and rub it in to make fine crumbs. (Hint-Use your fingers to make fine crumbs.)
2) Leave a tablespoon of the grated cheese on a saucer. Add the rest of the cheese to the bowl and stir it in.
3) Put a tablesppon of the beaten egg and milk mixture into a cup. Mix the rest into the flour to make a dough.
4) Dust a rolling pin and clean work surface with flour. Roll out the dough until it is slightly thinner than your little finger.
5) Use the cutter to vut out star shapes. Cut them close together. Make the scraps into a ball and roll them out.
6) Cut out more stars. Brush the stars with the rest of the egg mixture. Sprinkle them with the rest of the cheese. (Hint-Use a pastry brush.)
7) Put the stars onto the oiled baking sheet. Bake them in the oven for 8-10 minutes, until they are golden.
These stars are delicious to eat when they are warm. Also, they are nice when you eat them cold...just don't leave them for too long as they go off quickly.
You can also put on stuff as well, like I did!
Leave comments and pictures of your cheesy stars!
