So, no one has posted in this sub-forum for a long time, but I'm hoping some people still check it once in a while, though.

Anyway, what I've noticed about the Poetry subforum is how cluttered it gets. I thought I had read in the rules somewhere that people should try to limit themselves to one thread and just continuously update it with their poetry (or I might be imagining things), but either way, I think that really would be the best way to do it. Then the extra threads could be deleted and the subforum would no longer be so bogged down with poem after poem after poem. I mean, I'm impressed that some of you write so much, but it's daunting seeing so many threads--to the point where I hesitate to comment on anything sometimes.

And another quick thing is I've noticed that it often seems that people tiptoe around one another in this guild. Any comments left are always bubbly praise. Now, praise is good, but I know for a fact that everything could use improvement--always. It would be nice if member tried to offer constructive criticism as well as compliments, because it really bothers me when someone refuses to critique a poem because they think poetry is just an expression of one's self, that it has no need for rules and devices--it does, it does, it does. That doesn't mean you can't break the rules, but rules shouldn't be broken until you know what they are and can write well using them.

The Poetry sub-forum is quite cluttered and don't worry your not seeing things (in regards to the rule about having one thread per member). To many people were breaking that rule or not paying attention to it so I gave up persisting that rule and allowed people to simply post a thread per poem. I do agree with having one thread per writer but it is to much of a hassle trying to remind people of this and to much of a hassle deleting random poem threads.

The thing is (regarding improvement) is that a lot of the members in this guild don't know the rules or styles of poetry because they are in Jr. High or Sr. High school and have yet to study these things properly. I'm not saying they shouldn't take in the criticism given to their work but I think it should be kept in mind that most people in this guild aren't scholars - hence they lack the knowledge of how to write a poem in any way other than the basics of what they may have been taught in Jr. or Sr. high school which is very limiting.

On the other hand: I do believe critiquing poetry is a good thing as long as you keep in mind the points listed above as well as not sounding like a jerk. There were a few people who used to critique in this guild who got booted because they would be overly offensive while critiquing - that is not acceptable.
