The Modnar Rp:

I can’t help but notice that as we’re getting our feet on the ground, there’s really not much for people to do. So here is a small endeavor to give people a nice thing to goof around in and ((perhaps)) work on their rping skills. The concept is pretty simple. You’ll see a bunch of lists of various character traits. You’ll spend a couple of posts rolling randomly as the lists tell you, and at the end you’ll have all the basics of a random character.

Put all those random traits together in a profile, fill in any details you think it needs, and post up the finished profile.

That will be your character for the rp.

Setting: I suppose I should have made the setting random also, but I’m rather lazy. Picture a generic fantasy world. Maybe add in some crude matchlock pistols and muskets, but that’s all. And when I say generic, I mean it. Worst of the worst really, I mean, just look at the races I’ve put down . . .

Story: Modnar was a happy world filled with sunshine, joy, and happiness. Then the abominably evil Rekcik Nettik appeared. He comes from a world filled with shadows, sorrow, and hate. He and his legions of minions, the syekcal, now threaten the sunshine, joy, and OH MY GOD I CAN”T WRITE LIKE THIS ANYMORE!!!

So yeah. Modnar. Decent place threatened by some kind of reptilian race (the syekcal) from another dimension. Modnar has had its various wars before, but this one promises to be the worst one yet. Even the races that typically wouldn’t care are chipping in.

Characters:

Name: I’m sorry, you’re just going to have to come up with this on your own. ((A little trick I learned once was look around whatever room you’re in, take random objects in there, and mix and match the parts of their names.))

Age: use the generate random number from 16-26. That is your character’s effective age.

Gender: Roll a four sided die.
1-2: Male
3-4: Female

2: Elf
3: Faerie

1: Sword
2: Dagger
3: Axe

7: Staff
8: Garote, or other assassins’ tools

4: Speaks in third person
5: Tends to be serious
6: Shy

9: A little bit . . . off
10: Literally has a voice in their head. Or maybe several.
11: poor sense of judgment
12: Drinks tea whenever confronted with a problem.

Magic: Roll one eight sided die, unless you’re a mage. Then roll twice. If you’re a healer, you automatically get healing magic, and may roll again if that comes up.
1: Fire magic
2: Water magic
3: Earth magic
4: Air magic
5: Light Magic
6: Dark Magic
7: Healing magic
8: roll twice.

4: Character had a nice, normal childhood
5: Character traveled a lot
6: Character cannot remember their past
7: Character was raised by squirrels (or some race other than their own)
8: Bleh, you come up with something.
Other stuff: No rolling here, just put down whatever you think is missing.

What is the whole point of this you ask? I’ll try to explain.
This is really an exercise in leaving your comfort zone, and trying something different than what you might normally pick. It’s also, surprisingly, a bit of an exercise in creativity. You see, the things you roll randomly will hopefully just give you a few nicely fixed points, but there will still be a lot of things unfilled. Guess where you come in?

Anyways, I’ll start up the actual rp thread soon if anyone else seems interested.
Poco Loco Crow generated a random number between 16 and 26 ... 20!

So, I'm just going to kinda go through the character creation process because 1) examples help and 2) if people are actually interested in this, I'll need a character.

So basically, I'm going to be rolling for the next part of the character as I talk about the previous part.

Sooo . . . Name. Not much I can say there, as I'm probably going to wait until the end for that. Expect some varient on Nymoral.

So, apparently said character's age would be 20.

A small comment about the age range . . . I'll admit, I kinda picked what I'd be comforitable doing, so I guess if anyone else wants to fudge what the numbers are there it'd be fine by me.

Half-demon. I guess that means I’ll probably have someone trying to reject her demonic heritage . . . or maybe she’ll just claim she is and the betray people.

Name: Unknown so far
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Race: Half demon

next up, class!

Okay, so apparently she couldn't pick just one class.

Also, it seemse to me that six classes is a little . . .sparse. If anyone has some suggestions for more classes, or anything really, I'm open too them.

This is another reason why I test these things. Not only did I manage to roll the same number on both, but up in the classes section I had assassin and performer both listed as 3. In this case I’m just going to take them both, but in the future people can decide if they want to roll again to get a different second class or just stick with ther one.

So, a performing assassin. For my next act, how to drive a stiletto into a person's neck and brain!

Name: Unknown so far
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Race: Half demon
Class: Performing assassin

Staff? Okay, that'll be an interesting one to try fitting into the rest of the character.

This might be a good time to mention that this is not the character's only weapon, just their prefered one.

Name: Unknown so far
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Race: Half demon
Class: Performing assassin
Primary weapon: Staff

Now on to appearance

Tall, distinctive tattoo, and unusual skin color. That's all fairly easy to fit in . . . the tatoo will probably some kind of assassin’s guild mark, the skin color will be her heritage, and the height will just be her being tall.

Name: Unknown so far
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Race: Half demon
Class: Performing assassin
Primary weapon: Staff
Appearance: Tall, Distinctive Tattoo, Unusual Skin Color

Now personality quirks.

Awww. . . she slips into depression a lot? That's annoying for me, I'm normally I pretty cheerful person. Oh, and as they were both the same I decided to reroll the other one on a seperate device, because I'm lazy. I got 8, so she sings a lot too. Which makes sense, as she's a performer and all.

Name: Unknown so far
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Race: Half demon
Class: Performing assassin
Primary weapon: Staff
Appearance: Tall, Distinctive Tattoo, Unusual Skin Color
Personality Quirks: Slips into depression often, sings a lot . . . often strange songs with unknown instruments (I.E: modern songs)

now magic.
PostPosted: Tue Jul 13, 2010 5:13 pm

Hmm, water magic . . . I honestly don't know what to do with that . . . that's pretty much the only element I tend to avoid . . .

Name: Unknown so far
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Race: Half demon
Class: Performing assassin
Primary weapon: Staff
Appearance: Tall, Distinctive Tattoo, Unusual Skin Color
Personality Quirks: Slips into depression often, sings a lot . . . often strange songs with unknown instruments (I.E: modern songs)
Magic: Water

Well, on to biography, and then I'll just have to polish this character off!

Grrr . . . forgot to roll again.
PostPosted: Tue Jul 13, 2010 5:19 pm

Seriously? Seriously? I have some half-demon character who's supposed to get depressed all the time, and when I go to the thing that I was hopeing would help me explain why she gets depressed all the time I get "Nice, Normal Childhood"?! Why do I even have that as an option?!

. . . Grr.

Ah well, I'm not going to start breaking my own rules.
