Generally when people ansewer this question it seems to depend on there IQ what they think, those with a high IQ that I ask generally say that the USA and the world in general is getting dumber, while those with a lower IQ think that the world is getting smarter, and those with an average IQ seem not to care much.
I think that maybe the USA in general is getting smarter but the intelligentsia in getting smaller. What do you think?

Does it matter? I mean, wouldn't it be better to look at it from a global trend point of view?
Just... Most people aren't from the USA, and really? Who cares?
And maybe the world in general just allows dumb people to get more attention than the smarter ones, so it just appears that we're all getting stupid??? xp

Concidering my little sister came home stating that Alaska is an island and canida is part of the USA Like were one huge arse state, Note she came back from public school so I'm Definatly sure were all losing our mind to Technology."

I'm not really sure. We've definitely got some really stupid people in the world... but then, haven't we always? I think, on average, a person from our current time knows more about the universe than, say, a person 200 years ago. So that's something, right?

The Iron Magus I'm not really sure. We've definitely got some really stupid people in the world... but then, haven't we always? I think, on average, a person from our current time knows more about the universe than, say, a person 200 years ago. So that's something, right? That's education, not intelligence!

I say that it's the old people that are getting more dumb, whereas the younger are wising up to the old dumb peoples' antics.
Of course there are always rules to the exception, especially when it comes down to the young... -.-

USA wise, we have been stupid since the damn Red Scare if we have not learned that our country should not be based on one general idea of religion.
I have given up on us changing at all since Texas has changed the school books to "kid friendly" brainwashing bullshit.
World wise, we might succeed. I still have hope for Europe and maybe if China got more social.

intellect is going down the drain due to 85% of education, which is caused by politics, which is caused by stupidity, and forms a loop. so you see, it truly depends on how you look at it. oh, and USA scores on science tests are the lowest in the world.

why am i surprised when usa's science scores are the lowest .. half the reason alone is either dumb ******** people .. or because their religion conflicts with evidence so they say god did it

Fighter_guy why am i surprised when usa's science scores are the lowest .. half the reason alone is either dumb ******** people .. or because their religion conflicts with evidence so they say god did it actually, i personally believe that people can believe that people can believe in both god and science. for example, my girlfriend thinks that there is a god, but that SHE (yeah, she sez god is a girl) created science, and left the world to go it's path. she actually is top in her science class, and she is absolutely brilliant. she doesn't agree with any conventional religion. therefore, i believe it is a lack of education that has screwed our science scores.

Honestly, I'm undecided. I don't think we're necessarily getting stupider but I think we're stagnating needlessly.
We all have access to a lot more information now, thanks to the wonders of the internet. On the other hand, at least in the USA, the quality of the schools is in the shitter. What I've always noticed about my peer group (I'm nineteen, for reference) is that a LOT of them have no research skills. They can't judge whether a web page is legit or not. They can't synthesize information. They can't fact check. And they lack reading comprehension and writing skills (as they gleefully demonstrate on the internet every day gonk ).
I'm not even that smart, it's just... this is what I've noticed, and it scares me.
The USA really needs to improve the quality of our schools. If we focused more on teaching, provided ACTUAL discipline, and simply dropped students that refuse to work and are putting a strain on our classrooms, we'd probably end up with a smarter population. But we focus too much on the s**t that doesn't matter, like sports.
My old high school spent a ridiculous amount of money on a lavish new football field this year. (Their old one was perfectly functional.)
The last time they bought textbooks, the ones they got were so cheap they were written by VOLUNTEERS, and full of mistakes. I'm not even kidding. And some of them started falling apart after the first year.
And... and... this is turning into one of my "Why I hate the US school system and want to violently strangle everyone involved with No Child Left Behind" rants. Dx You get the point. We need to give our kids a base to build on. They need the skills to use the knowledge that's available to them. THEN we can start getting smarter. I don't know about the rest of the world, though.

Smarter or dumber by what measurement? I think it's a difficult thing to quantify. The population keeps growing so I guess statistically that would mean a larger number of people of "average" intelligence.
Personally I don't think this is a useful designation. What bothers me more is how there seems to be less respect (and even a general mistrust) for higher education and less trust and interest in science. So it's possible that Americans are becoming less informed while at the same time being bombarded with a ton of useless information. Is the mistrust in science due to lower IQ's and not having the capacity to understand? Or is the mistrust due to cultural/social reasons and people are turning away from science due to things other than intelligence level. I suppose that would mean people have the capacity to learn but are choosing to be dumber (I'm sure they wouldn't see it that way though).

NOT proud of the people in my country. srsly, theres kids in bikinis, like, little kids, as young as NEW FREAKING BORN. and theres boys fighting and smacking girls asses at the age of five. so yeah, dumber, the parents don't train their kids NOT to be whores, and mtv teaches them to show off everything they (don't) have.
