Roleplay name: This Revolution...↗

❉❉

Characters: Monaco/Rosalie, France/Francis↗

❉❉❉

Time: 1793, during the French Revolution↗

❉❉❉❉

Brief Summary:

❉❉❉❉❉

It was just a silent afternoon, in the capital city of the country of Monaco.
But, this silence was interrupted by the violent sounds of cannons.

In the distance, at the boarder line, the French army, has been advancing into the small country, destroying most anything in their path.

Rosalie, had been discussing with her countries leaders, when the building was hit by a cannon ball, and exploded.
Despite the impact, Rosalie survived, and is running about the battle field, with confidence fading in her small line of defensive soldiers, protecting what is currently left...

Blood stained on this field, and dead bodies laying on the cold ground, what did I do to deserve this?

Running in worn down shoes, Rosalie looked behind herself, seeing the coming army. Her hair flew in her face, and she didn't even look like her formal self. In front of her, stood a tall tree, in a lonely field. It did seem like a good place to hide, for the moment.

Swiftly moving behind the tree, it gave her a moment to process what had happened. The only few things she remembered before she blacked out was that the roof collapsed on her and her boss, and she seemed to be the only one to survive. Then, to her surprise, one of her few military leaders, came running up to her.

"Ma'am... The entire army has been almost entirely wiped out."

This didn't surprise Rosalie, but also made her a bit scared. Why did her supposedly neutral neighbors, attack her by surprise? Rosalie didn't have the time to think, before another bomb landed near the tree, blowing it to pieces, throwing both Rosalie and her military general into the air. The general disappeared, but Rosalie landed safely, again.

"Oh Mon Dieu..."

She could only think of one thing to do, run.

War. It was one thing that every one of their kind had or would experience more than once in their long immortal lives. It was a fate that none could escape as long as they were ruled by beings such as humans; such greedy creatures, hungry for power and wealth and land. One might think a Nation would give up on such beings, though they knew all were not as such. It just seemed that the ones that were overshadowed the kind and the selfless so much more than they should. But to a Nation all that lived for them, within them, were their children and a part of them, so they were loved, and they were hated. Because a Nation's people are who it is, and although they did have their own thoughts and wishes, there was no doubt they were influenced by their people's own. And right now, in this day and age, the most important thing to a country was that which lead to power and strength; that which came to them through the blood and tears of those not of their soil. It was only through the pain and suffering, the deaths, of all else that they could become strong; become Empires.

So as Francis Bonnefoy stood in the middle of the chaos, watching as his soldiers fought and killed and conquered, he didn't feel the guilt and the pain that he would have so many years ago as a young and innocent Nation, seeking allies for the first time and only wishing to make a friend. He did not have such foolish thoughts anymore, or so be liked to tell himself, because it could never be so for their kind. He was France. He was a Nation. And because of what he was he was bound by his land and his people. There was no such thing as friends, not when they could be so easily taken, made enemies. There were allies; that was all, and the more you had the more convenient it was for you. But you needed to be strong to hold your allies, and sometimes being strong meant making others weak and taking them for yourself. They would be better off though. France wouldn't let them suffer. Not after they'd surrendered to him...

He walked through the wreckage, ignoring the sounds of muskets, swords, and cannons, the screams, towards the place where she was. It was difficult for their kind to hide from one another. There was a certain feeling one got when another was near or before you, and you just knew. She was running, scared and trying to escape her inevitable capture. It was much too late for that. Her people were beaten, and thus, so was she. But she would see. It was better this way. She would be protected. After all, France was far from cruel as far as the world's Empire's went.

It was with the drop of a bomb that he finally caught sight of her, thrown by the impact with the remnants of a now dying tree. He ignored the presence of the general; the man probably had not even survived, and he was not what the Nation was looking for. France moved before the smaller Nation could run once again, coming up behind her as she righted herself, and grabbed her, arms holding hers crossed before her in a restraining mockery of an embrace. "Bonjour Rosalie, dear. It has been much too long, but pleasantries can wait for a later time, non? Right now, I believe you should come with me..."And Monaco was thus now in the hands of France.

This didn't have to happen, it truly didn't. Looking through her broken glasses, she saw him. That ruthless b*****d, France. Normally, she wouldn't even think those words about her, but seeing as how he killed most of her people, and destroyed her what once was, beautiful country. And worse still, he made her watch them all die, too.

The general, the one who had been with Rosalie before, looked up, just barely alive, with a large wound in his left leg, and was causing a slow and painful death, of blood loss. The poor man could barely reach for the rusty musket laying beside him, but his spirit to keep fighting allowed him to reach for it, and load the weapon. Alas, that was the last of this military officer, seeing as how he didn't have enough time to fire, before his soul was taken to a different place, and died on the spot.

Poor little Monaco, needed time to process what had just happened, but finally knew what was going on. She pretty much had two options, either death, or surrender. Honestly, Rosalie didn't want to do either, she wanted her country back, and her life back.

"A... And if I would refuse to come with you?"

It was quite a decision to tell him, basically 'No', but is was a decision that might just give her the chance to escape. But obviously, to her, the chances were extremely slim.

"Y-You really cant just expect me to just go with you, non?"

France absentmindedly played with the smaller Nations now dirtied blonde hair. He felt no reason to be anything more than at ease with the current situation. He as an Empire, strong and lead to victory on many occassions with well thought out strategy. Monaco had spirit and she was stubbourn; he'd give her that, but she was young and could not hope to fight France off with the little power she held at the moment. Even if she somehow managed to get free right now it would only be a matter of time before she was captured once again. Her people were beaten, and so was she. Though he supposed she didn't see it that way; he used to think of things as only involving himself too when he was her age. He didn't realize what being one with your people meant.

So as she turned her head back to see him, he allowed a cruel smirk to slowly make its way onto his face as he took hold of her chin in one hand, forcing her to look out onto the battlefield. "Tell me, mon coeur, what so you see? Your people, they suffer, non? They are screaming and dying and bleeding all over you and all because you refuse to give in."With these words he released her chin, turning her around fully to face him and releasing her arms.

"You can run, cherie. I will not stop you. You will not get far either way. But know that if you do refuse, and you do not come with me as I fully expect you to, then your people will continue to die, and your soil will forever be stained with their blood." He then leaned in, running his hand down her cheek in an almost loving caress. "All because you would choose their deaths over your capture. Such a selfish Nation you are..." He laughed, a small dark sound in the defeaning chaos around them, and his smile only grew.

He knew his words were cruel; that they would instill in her a sense of guilt, but he also knew that they were true and that she could not deny that fact. Her people were not going to fight back. They had already given up, or at least, more had given up than were fighting back and there were not enough even from the beginning to fight for her. Without a strong will holding them together they all fell apart and though Rosalie wished to fight back still, there was nothing she could do that would change what had already been decided. She belonged to France.

The only decision left to make was whether she would come quietly and be treated as a guest, or whether she would refuse and be treated as a prisoner. France could be cruel, he knew, but he was above such things if they could be avoided. Sometimes he just couldn't tell when they should be; not anymore. It was as if something inside him compelled him towards the violence and the blood. It told him he needed it and he knew he wasn't the only one. Many of the older Nations had changed throughout the centuries and become this. It was just how things were, and though a smaller part of him cried out at the horror of it, a much larger part laughed and urged him on. Many did like to say that with strength came insanity when it came to their kind.

His words were true, it would be selfish to give in. But, giving in wasn't Rosalie's personality at this age. She was a confident, and stubborn person, who tried to make sure that in a situation, that everyone got what they wanted. Monaco thought for a quick second, and realized, why did Francis attack her? There were plenty of other people that would be easier to attack, such as Italy, who had the blood of the great Roman Empire.

Seeing as how Francis had let go, she took a couple steps back, making some space between the two of them. "I... Have a question, why did you attack me of all people?" Rosalie asked, giving him a bit of a glare. "I mean... We were allies, and then you just go and attack my small country!" Her tone of voice became angered.

She continued to think of reasons to argue against him. She was basically stalling him. But, she did make sure she didn't say to much, seeing as how Francis wasn't alone, and how there was a group of people behind her.

"I really would like some answers, Francis." Monaco stated, glaring at them 'French Empire'. "Giving in now would just prove I couldn't fight back."

France could practically feel the conflicted thoughts his words had left the smaller Nation with; he could see it in her eyes. She had realized that there was more to this than simply herself and it gave her so much more to think about. However, France could see other things within those expressive eyes as well; a strong will, determination, and above all, a stubbournness that could last forever. It was something all young Nations shared and it only seemed to grow with age. France himself was known to be very stubbourn on occassion, but she would need much more than that in order to make a place for herself in the world. She needed to be able to defend herself, and with what little power she had now, it was obvious to him that she could not. If France had not come now, someone else would sometime soon; perhaps tomorrow, maybe the next day, and they would not be so kind.

He tilted his head to the side, a small smile gracing his lips, as he watched her, waiting for her answer. He did not expect the one he got, to say the least. So many questions; such a curious young Nation she was. His smile only grew however, brows raising as he gave her an answer of his own. "Why not you, cherie? I would have come for you eventually. You are close, and your presence is such a joy. Let us be honest with ourselves; you would not have survived in this kind of world on your own. This way you will have protection from the stronger and more ruthless Nations, and properly cared for as well. Isn't that nice?" He wasn't deterred in the least by her anger, only chuckling lightly at her next words.

"But don't you see it, mon amour? The proof is all around us." He explained gesturing widely at the battefield. His eyes were as bright as ever, face calm and patient, as if speaking to a small child. "There is nothing left to prove. You cannot fight for yourself. Your people are beaten and without them your resistence is nothing more than a nuisance. Now...there is only one decision left to make, so listen closely." He spoke slowly, calmly allowing her to take in all that he was saying. After all, one needed to know their options. At the same time every word seemed to pass through his lips as would everyday conversation; a passing thought. "You can either come quietly and you will be protected and cared for as promised, or you can continue to refuse my kind offering and be treated like a lowly criminal, in chains and behind bars. It is your choice, little one, so choose well." With his last words his eyes darkened slightly, smile molding into a smirk as he watched and waited.

(OOC: Jeez, at my Dad's work office, so lets see if I can make a quality post in about... 15 minutes! ; - ; )

What was he saying now? That she wouldn't be able to survive with out him? That her being captured by this 'Empire' would keep her safe? It didn't make much sense at all! Rosalie thought back to the other things she had said earlier, broadening her range of questions and arguments. Now that he had basically destroyed her country, what was poor little Monaco worth now?

"But why, exactly?" Rosalie's tone of voice got angrier as the questions continued on. "I mean look at me now! You've taken away the only thing I was worth! You've devoured this country, and now I don't even have anything left!" Monaco stepped closer to him now, trying to persuade him to just, let go, trying to make him see that it wasn't worth his time just to try to capture such a tiny, and in his definition, 'Defenseless' nation. Monaco, herself, didn't consider herself 'Defenseless' yet. She still, had a very strong alliance with Northern Italy, despite Italy was extremely weak, and only good at trade.

"But..." Monaco began, "That's what an 'Empire's job is, isn't it?"

She paused for a moment. "To destroy weaker countries, on a quest to take over the Empire's enemies..." Rosalie didn't other raising her voice, thinking that any more words would have just made the situation worse for herself. She was already quite afraid that she had ruined at the first word of her talking back. Monaco didn't say another word, just stood there, attempting to stand her ground, not wanting to be fooled as a weak nation, despite she was one.

I don't think this will work, but it was worth the small shot...

France had always prided himself on his patience. He was much more lenient and could wait much longer for the things he wanted than many of his fellow Empires. He could draw things out to great lengths of his own volition as well and was very fond of doing so, especially in certain cases that he felt an even greater deal of pride in. Yes, France could say he had gained a mastery of quite a few things, though even he had his limits in some. And right now he wondered if it might be better to merely throw the smaller Nation in front of him over his shoulder kicking and screaming and allow her to decide whether she would behave or be a difficult little prisoner later.

Though he supposed he could stretch his patience just a little bit more; perhaps answer a few more questions, have a little more fun with her mind before he captured her completely. There was nowhere for her to go either way and he wondered how long it would take before Monaco herself came to the same realization. "Why? Well...because I can, of course. Is there any other reason? We are Nations. We live by our people's rule, and mine tell me to conquer and become strong. If I must take from others to do so, then that is what I will do." He said this all very matter of fact, ignoring her anger and shouts once again. What did it matter to him? What could she do?

"But do not worry! Yes, you have been broken down and were never worth much before, but that will all change now; don't you see? I am going to build you up again, cherie. I will make you worth more than you could ever have become on your own." He smiled almost reassuringly as she trailed off into more somber tones, questioning his purpose and his aims. She did not understand at all, did she? "My job is to become great, Rosalie. I never sought to destroy you and as you are here standing before me, it is proof that I have not. The pain and fear you have felt today can go away very easily. All you need to do is follow."

Oh dear, now what would she do? He was defiantly stronger then her, and well, she had run out of ideas, so trying to talk back would just make this worse for her. Rosalie turned around so France couldn't see her now, a bit depressed face. As it was quite obvious, she hated admitting defeat. But, he was right again, and she finally could see it, the proof was all around them. How could she fight back? She couldn't, it was that simple.

"F-Fine..." Monaco stuttered, crossing her arms, refusing to face him. "Ill... Ill go with you..." She said, surrendering. Just speaking those words, felt like eating sour apples, it was a horrible feeling. She'd never imagined she would have to surrender, but, I guess so. Does he really mean, that this day will just go away? I doubt it... Monaco pondered. She wasn't sure if Francis had changed since the last time she had seen her. She was certain he was more power hungry then before.

France knew it was only a matter of time before she would accept her fate and when she turned away from him with that defeated look in her eyes he knew the time had come. She was weak, broken down and tired, and there was mothing more she could do to resist the empire that he was. He allowed her to compose herself; though he was strong now, France had known defeat in the past many times, and he realized how hard it was to accept. He remembered the self loathing, the feeling of helplessness and vulnerability. But above all France remembered the thought that he had not tried hard enough and that if he had only done one thing different, things would have turned out in his favour. He knew now that those thoughts were foolish and unrealistic. He had lost all those times because he was not strong enough and now that he was he would not let it happen again. He had a strong leader to ensure that now, just as France would ensure that Monaco would become happy again in due time.

It may be difficult for her to adapt to this new life he would create for her, but she would thank him for it one day. He would create a home for her that was all she had been before and more, and she would have a family. He was reassured by her surrender at least, and the knowledge that she would at least try to follow his direction complacently for now, even though she obviously was the farthest from content with what he had done. "Tres bien, cherie. Everything will be fine now. You will see. Come now. I assume you'll want to get cleaned up after all this." He said, extending his hand to her and gesturing to his horse not too far from where they stood. He would take her home now.

OOC: Don't worry about it. I don't mind at all. I've been kind of slow on my posts lately anyway so you have nothing to feel sorry about...
