I am the mother of a young soldier that was lucky to make it back. I cannot sympathize with those who lost their sons or daughters. My tears came for other reasons. Kenneth is my only son. It hurt so much to see him back out of our drive way. I thought I would never see him again. Seeing him to the plane that would carry him to Korea to Infantry school was almost more than I could bear. He's been home for longer than he was gone and I thank the gods for bringing him back to me.
Those of you who's sons or daughters didn't make it back, my heart goes out to you more than I can say. You sacrificed a part of yourself for the freedom we all share.
I know it's a weak consolation for losing a child, but please know it's what he went in for. To see that his loved ones knew what most other countries don't have. In time you will remember the man he was, the soldier he became, and the hero he will always be to you, me and every free American. Thank you for your heartfelt sacrifice.
