Emily keeps things fairly neat, but she can't help the clutter that accumulates around her with everything she has to do. Though it may seem disorganized to the new eye, Emily always knows exactly where everything is, and has absolutely no trouble finding it except when people start moving things around, trying to get it organized.

 Annaliese Zanbrecher Annaliese stood outside Emily's door, a stiff, silent Laura standing behind her at the position of attention. The girl had not said a word since she greeted Annaliese after class ended, something which never failed to impress Annaliese. Most students in Laura's position would either be crying, fuming, trying to convince Annaliese not to take them to their Head of House, or a combination of the three; Laura, though, always took her punishments without argument and without a word. Annaliese wished all of her students could be as quiet as Laura when being explained their punishment. She raised her hand and knocked on the door, feeling bad that she was already bugging Emily so early on in the term.

Emily was sorting through a bunch of papers on her desk when she heard a knock at her door. Nothing had gone wrong since the stampede of students in the halls during class, so she wasn't in a particularly foul mood, but she also wasn't in her best mood ever. She silently took off the reading glasses and rubbed her eyes gently as she called out "Come in." She didn't wait for the door to open before resuming her task of organizing. She did glance up however to see who it was, and when she saw Annaliese Zanbrecher she placed the stack of papers down, giving the woman her full attention. She couldn't help but rise in surprise however when Laura Brechkovsky followed mechanically. Emily closed her eyes, bit her lip, and took in a deep breath to calm herself. This was a girl that had never been in trouble before, until Emily had been forced to punish her for not being in class. Maybe it wasn't going to be that bad. She would just have to wait and see before she over reacted. "Take a seat." She said quietly motioning to two chairs in front of her. "Laura, I'm going to ask you to explain everything too me."
Emily held one end of her glasses in her mouth as she held on to them with her hand as she looked at Laura, and listened to her explain. The girl explained about how she had screamed and attacked, but she said nothing about why she had done such things. With all of this Emily couldn't help but feel slightly happy because the girl was accepting full responsibility. She may have misbehaved, but she was still trying to be responsible, and she wasn't dragging other students into this. She closed her eyes taking deep breaths, reminding herself that this was Laura's first offense. When the girl finished explaining everything Emily laid her glasses and hands on her desk as she looked at Annaliese. "It seems that you had quite a fourth period. It also seems that you have a few choices here. Miss Brechkovsky is a first time offender, but she is a Ravenclaw Prefect, and her offense is quite substantial. She knew that wands were banned in your classroom, but she used it twice. You can allow Laura to keep her wand, or you can take it from her, and give it back when you believe she deserves it back. I will have her know however, that if it had been me, I would have already had her wand." Emily leaned back and watched Laura's face carefully. It was as if it were stone. The girl sat there totally expressionless. Emily felt kind of bad for her, but at the same time she knew, and she knew Laura knew, that she had to be punished. "Another decision you have Professor, is if Miss Brechkovsky should keep her Prefect badge, or lose it for a time. Attacking other students is not how our school Prefects should behave themselves. You know the situation however, and I will let you make the call. Now to you Laura. I will have you know that I am very ashamed of the behavior you have shown. Not only are you a Prefect, but you represent the house of Rowena Ravenclaw. Those in her house are supposed to be intelligent, and I have no shame in telling you that there was nothing intelligent about what you have done today. I tell you now that I stand behind Professor Zanbrecher in her taking away house points, and giving you detention. I also support her decision regarding your wand and badge. I will also be writing to your father about all of this." Emily was caught slightly by surprise as Laura spoke up at that point, but even more surprised when the girl asked if she could be the one to write her father. Emily could honestly say she hadn't been asked that before. "I will allow you to write your father yourself Laura, but in your letter I want you to tell him about earlier today with myself, as well as with Professor Zanbrecher. I also want to read the letter before you send it off. If you write in Russian, you are to allow Professor Zanbrecher to read it. Am I understood?" Emily watched the girl nod and give her consent, and she turned back to Annaliese. "It looks likes it's back to you."

Annaliese Zanbrecher Annaliese listened to what Emily told Laura, as well as the suggestions she gave Annaliese for punishments. After Emily instructed Laura to show the letter that the girl would write her father in Russian to Annaliese to make sure it said all it should say, Annaliese nodded her thanks at Emily, her brain whirring with ideas for a harsh punishment. Once she had thought of a few ideas, she turned to Laura and said, "Okay, Miss Brechkovsky, zis is how your punishment vill play out. I vill take your vand for two weeks, at vhich point I vill decide if you have earned it back. I vill also relieve you of your Prefect badge for a month, after vhich I vill also decide if you may keep it or not." Annaliese paused here to watch Laura's reaction to having her wand and badge taken away for a very long time, but once again, the girl remained expressionless, although her eyes seemed much brighter and slightly redder than before. Annaliese pressed on with her final facet of Laura's punishment, saying, "Along vith vhat I just told you, I also vant you to write your sister a letter, apologizing for your behavior und your attack on her. Like I told you both in class, I do not care vhat has gone on between you two at home, so I vill not hear any complaints about writing a letter to her, alzough I do not expect it from you." Annaliese was being wry, even though she knew it was not the time for humor. She turned to Emily and asked, "Is zare anything else you vant to add?"

 ~Laura S. Brechkovsky~
Laura was finding it more and more difficult to breathe as this confrontation continued. She had slipped up for the first time her entire time at Hogwarts, and she was in a lot of trouble. When Zanbrecher told her she was taking her wand for two weeks and badge for a month, Laura suddenly felt sick. How was she going to get by without a wand for two weeks? Sure she didn't need it for Potions, History, Care of Magical Creatures, or Divination, but she would need it for Transfiguration, Charms, and Defense. She was also being revoked of her badge which brought a terrible shame upon her. When she was told that she had to write a letter to her sister however, her stomach lurched completely. "Ma-am, she won't accept it. She'll think I'm trying to be a suck-up again like she did when I tried to replace the ink I used over the summer." It was a burst of words, and Laura quickly clapped her hand over her mouth to shut up. "I'm terribly sorry ma-am. I'll write her a letter and give it to her before I serve detention with Professor Wixom." She was slightly red in the face, but other than that she was completely expressionless. When Zanbrecher asked Emily if there was anything else Laura held her breath and prayed for the woman to say no. She was extremely relieved to hear her say there was no more punishment this time, but that if Laura was taken to her office again, she would have her badge revoked permanently. This scared her, but she knew that if she behaved it wouldn't have to come to that. With that Laura slowly withdrew her wand, unpinned her badge from her robe, and handed them out to Zanbrecher. Her eyes were shining as she fought to keep tears from falling, but she said nothing.

Annaliese Zanbrecher Annaliese shook her head at Laura when she expressed her apprehension about writing her sister a letter of apology. Then she said, "Viktorya vill be required to write you a letter of apology as vell, so she vill know you are not 'sucking up,' as you put it. I know you probably do not vant a letter of apology from her, but you deserve an apology for vhat she did to your potion. I vill also deduct 10 points from her next potion for vhat ze von she ruined today. Now, if zare are no more questions, you should head to lunch und get something to eat before ze bell rings." She motioned for Laura to leave, then turned to Emily and said, "Danke for everything, Emily, und forgive me for disturbing you; I can imagine it has been a crazy day so far." With a nod, Annaliese followed Laura out of Emily's office and walked down to the dungeons to her office to get ready for her next class.

Emily was trying to stay awake as she sorted through papers on her desk when there was a knock at her door followed by frantic speaking. She heard something about the castle, and then a splurt of words that she didn't catch any of. She didn't have time to open the door, or even call out for whoever it was to enter however because suddenly her Office door was pushed open and a hippogriff entered her office. She jumped in her desk out of shock, upsetting an ink bottle that was next to her. "Klara what on Earth?" Emily stated. She had no problems with Animals. Emily herself had taken Care of Magical Creatures, and actually liked animals, but a hipogriff was an extremely large animal, and it definitely didn't belong in the castle. She quickly grabbed her wand and performed a freezing charm on it so that it couldn't destroy her office, and then looked at Klara. She could see the girl was frazzled so she spoke calmly. "Alright, take a deep breath, and calmly tell me what's going on." As she waited Emily started cleaning up the mess her ink bottle had made.

Klara shook her head rapidly from side-to-side to clear it and calm herself down before catching her breath and looking as calmly at the professor as possible. "This hippogriff sort of followed me and won't leave me alone. And Seth is having some sort of mental breakdown by the Lake. He seems to think that some crazed wizard drug dealer is after him, which I don't really understand, but I don't know if he's serious or not and maybe someone with more advanced skill than me should check up on him?" she asked, hardly pausing to breathe and very red in the face. The hippogriff was making himself quite at home in the office, and she had to prod him to keep him from curling up beside Wixom's fireplace. He clicked his beak and chirruped at her.

Emily watched the girl slightly confused, and slightly scared. "Alright, I'll go check it out, but you'll have to show me where. Um, let's take your friend with us." She said nodding at the creature before leading the way out of her office. What on Earth? Class was just about to end, and Emily had had a day of hell already. Couldn't something just go smoothly for once?

K crying onguetied Klara nodded shakily. She was terrified, both of getting in trouble and of Seth doing something crazy. By now she had convinced herself that the young man was merely having delusions and should be institutionalized, and dearly hoped that her assumptions were correct. "He's this way, Professor," she said, tentatively beginning to run for the grounds. She patted the hippogriff's muscular flank, and he immediately began trotting alongside her.
